SSF4 Gen Combo Thread

I already know that, I did alot of research and wrote alot of matchup info (SSFIV) before I quit Gen cold turkey and some articles. The Gekiro combos are nice but iirc there was a list available with names of characters which version worked on and not etc.

Well, atleast I didn’t miss much new info since the gen section is pretty much people talking about everything except gen :stuck_out_tongue:

when i read it, it confuses me too.

its hard to describe without a bunch of explanation but i’ll try

anyway, you chain cancel 3 kicks, after the first cr.lk, as a buffer for your stance change. that way you stay in mantis until you go to link the cr.mp

could anyone confirm that plinked inputs are counted for hands?

they are counted as 2 (of the 5) punch inputs needed for hands, if the whole thing is done fast enough

I really don’t understand it. So (kkk) means that I change to crane stance? Or just means I do three c.lk’s in a row in order to buffer the stance change?

EDIT; Never mind, I know what chain buffering means, I never really gave it a name so I was like wtf.

IMO s.MP, xx Gekiro is probably the better punish. Especially online. s.MP comes out just as fast and does a bit more damage, less stun but a little more damage, with less room for error.

I don’t get how this would be effective. wouldn’t the roll just reset them? I’d rather do.

Crane Jump Hp Mantis Mp > Hp Hands(5hits or the last hits for Fadc) Fadc Mp Hp Gekiro HK = 395.

*who tried to do :Cr.Lk(Crane) > Jump Hk 2hits > Ultra Ryukoha or just super Crane its work on Balrog and T.hawk but the secret is in jump Hk the first hit ( i will record the combo soon )

No, by (kkk)cr.LK he meant chain mantis c.LK with 3K buttons, so that you will end up in crane stance when the chain sequence ends. So it’s a combo, not a reset. If you already understood what he said then my apologies.

Been using the mk hands loop aswell since getting back at Gen. Don’t know what people think about that meter management-wise, but it does decent damage when you precede it when a jump in attack like crane j.hp or something (around 320 or 330 dmg with a jump in fierce punch attack). I feel like it is worth it occasionally. Didn’t see it posted yet so…

naked(without jump in attack) combo: (mantis) s.mp>mk EX hands>mk hands 249 dmg

Ive mained gen since vanilla, and have never consistently landed s.mk to hands. Ive accumulated more than 7000 pp with him and stick to his more basic resets, shennnanigans and combos, It maybe because I use pad and dont know how to plink, but can anyone help me out?

This is kinda old but I’ve yet to see anyone really talk about them or post them in this combo thread. Unless I missed it. But I went through every post in here to make sure I wasn’t double posting.

Level 3 Focus Attack >> Dash Forward, Crane Neutral Jump RH, Crane Ultra 1 or Super.

Both of these are better options than Mantis Ultra 1 after L3 FA Crumple.

Crane Super - 454 Dmg / 360 Stun
Crane Ultra 1 - 469 Dmg / 360 Stun
L3FA Mantis Ultra - 440 Dmg / 200 Stun

Pad is so extremely difficult to play gen on, I feel. I know there are some EU players out there who use pad gen… if you lurk video thread I think I’ve heard of a few so you might want to ask around there. If you can’t drum for piano method, I don’t know if there’s a slide method for pad but you might want to check into it.

Yeah, I think nj.HK->Crane U1 is max damage from a naked level 3 focus. Crane SUPER is not, however. You’re better off just doing mantis super and following up with HK gekiro if you have it after level 3 focus.

Good stuff. I think though that outside of punishing super unsafe stuff, it’s difficult to land the level 3.

I know personally that after any non-level 3 (non-guaranteed) crumple, I typically backdash to hit confirm the focus into Mantis U1. This (bad) force of habit may be why people opt for mantis u1 even after level 3.

Level 3 FA is pretty much free vs certain characters. Like Bison headstomp pressure and Devils reverse. Same with Vega BAs.

If they’re meterless, I guess. I get punished all the time otherwise when they EX, and good bisons will cross up the DR follow up to headstomp which usually messes with direction of the focus attack. Otherwise good lookin out!

Excellent… great punishes. All of these deep combo’s truly show how great Gen is.

Ya but have more tools out there for a time where you needed the 30 damage. Hey there it is. I see the glass half full you seem to see it half empty.

Do you have the link for the site? Its a pain trying to continue s.mk to hands, fadc bnb. without some sort of consistency. Anyone try this reset yet?
