If his crouching mp for Mantis stance is changed to 5-frame start-up, then it’ll practically be pointless to do st.mp --> st.hp because the first hit of st.hp is 5-frame start-up. The crouching mp will do more damage. but I suppose that’s the reason why they added the target combo to make up for the damage. I believe the crouching mp will have to be used for hit-confirms. other than that, Gen will pretty much have a whole arsenal of links for all his Mantis normals.
I think he already has a bunch of links in Mantis normals (please ignore this part if you meant it that way), but Gouken will likely have a slightly less or equal number of important links after DLC. s.MP -> s.MK is almost equal to s.MP -> c.MP in my eyes anyways, except for a bit of damage difference and maybe LK gekiro whiffs after c.MP, so I’ll somewhat ignore that new link possibility. With 4 active frames maybe it can get treated in a similar way to shoto’s c.MK, except it’s safer on whiff, you get hit out by jumping attacks and the range is a bit shorter… wait, is it? I never bothered to compare those two.
Btw, FA Lvl3 -> forward dash Mantis U2 whiffs on Dan if you delay U2 a bit after dash even when he’s considered grounded. The hitbox buff downward might be to prevent this and on to help him with his random wake-up reversal VS shoto’s meaty c.MK :lol:.
I was thinking which crane normal would benefit from reduced hurtbox. Nothing comes to my mind except for one: s.HK (as an AA). Maybe they’re trying to make it a better AA so it’ll stop losing/trading to normals like boxers j.HK or shoto’s j.LK. If there are any other moves possible, it may be c.MK, so that it’ll become low profile a bit quicker. I left c.HK out cuz I’m 90% sure they’ll not reduce hurtbox on that.
I was thinking that Crane crouching fierce will have a reduced hurtbox.
They already made it low enough to go underneath Sagat’s high fireball.
But it tends to trade frequently, even at max range.
It’d be nice to be able to poke around with it.
I certainly like to throw it out at specific distances.
It’s a very effective poke, believe it or not.
Maybe it will work for mp hands. Mp hands doesn’t push back as much as HP hands. Putting that aside, I think one of the buffs for gen was the increased range on his mantis s hk. After trying out mp hands I found that trying to connect s hk after it is just barely out of range. Perhaps the increased range could make it connect. Then again I don’t think the startup time for mantis s hk will be enough. If anything it can at least be used as a frame trap when AE releases
lol that would be funny gen would be honda hands into heavy kick lol
Hmm, that would be interesting, I wouldn’t like that though =/
but it’d be a nice addition to his arsenal
Don’t let the picture fool you. Currently s.HK has similar range to c.MP, which is shorter than s.MK, because the active frames end before he fully extends his front leg. In order to be able to do that combo his s.HK will have to have a range longer than that of sweep, which I cannot expect. Or the timing of active frames will have to change so that it starts when he fully extends his leg.
The lack of active frames, rather than the range, made me hesitate from using it, now it’ll function as a better well-timed poke. The usefulness will depend on how much range buff he got. If it has the same range with s.MK~c.HP, then I’ll keep using those two pokes, because they have better start-up and have more active frames at the same time.
Agreed. The frame data for s.hk isn’t stellar, but it’s comparable to Chun’s s.hk frame data, and her s.hk kicks ass. If his hit and hurt boxes are such that he can throw it out more safely in AE he might actually have a noticeably more improved zoning game.
s.hk frame data
startup active recovery
6 3 16 bison
12 2 20 chun
8 2 20 gen
Crane c.HP having reduced hurtbox would be awesome. If it really did, then there’s a possibility that a wake-up meaty could make SRK completely whiff. One can only hope though.
The hurtbox/hitbox isn’t so bad for the current s.HK either. It’s actually on the decent side, but the horrendous combination of start-up + range + active frames just makes me think twice about using it. It cannot be used as an AA unlike the other two s.HK’s you’re comparing to, but it won’t whiff on crouchers at the max range either. But the max range is the shortest of the three, and the list can go on and on.
The main problems I personally see in the current version of the move are the facts, that s.HK is not hitting any place where c.HP cannot connect, and that it’s not cancelable. If it did one of those two, then its level of usefulness will go much higher.
EDIT: If you’re a type of guy who picks U2 all the time, Mantis U2 might actually connect after blocking Blanka U1’s first hit with the hitbox buff.
New Gen TC looks great

yeah i just watched it when i came into work.
It looks cool! … more pls!!! hehe
I’m very pleased with it. It looked kinda funny actually seeing it but at the same time it’s pretty fast. I guess that was TC #1
Agreed. Right now the move is just too clunky for its range. I rolled my eyes at this change when I first read it but at least the move will serve a greater purpose than being something you use when an oga or super puts them too far out of range for gekiro and you’re afraid of whiffing the c.hk for knockdown.
KKK c.hp. I have a love/hate relationship with this move. Honestly they could just revert it back to vanilla before it had KD on CH and especially before gen took 88% CH damage if you knock him out of it, and I’d be a very happy man.
They said they’ve adjusted alot of the characters hurtboxes so that some moves wont wiff as much.
I hope this includes:
S.MP -> KKK C.LK
KKK C.LK -> Mantis U1
EX Hands -> Mantis U2
If any of these actually were working BnBs, Gen would be so much stronger.

This is the second time you’ve been posting a vid of yourself (?) across multiple topics that have no relevancy to your video. One post in the video thread should be sufficient.
kinda wish he would stop spamming his vids
Is there any Gen player who has an arcade nearby that’ll bring AE in? I’m guessing no since nobody mentioned it, but just in case.
The only arcade I know that’s bringing it requires a 5 hour drive! Maybe Jibbo will get interested in checking him out again.
