Ssf4 costumes discussion

Maybe they have to charge for the additional outfits to kinda keep things profitable. I mean, fighters don’t really have the huge market FPS games have. They probably have to charge us 85 bucks for a game (60 + 25 for the alts), because that kinda sorta makes up for the fact that the game isn’t gonna be purchased by the huge horde of FPS guys.

I know it’s not fair… But what if it’s either we buy the alts and such, or don’t get any more fighters? If that’s the case, I’d gladly buy all the alts (didn’t purchase all the packs in SFIV though), if it meant that we’d be sure to get more fighters and not have to all convert to Halo-tards… Or whatever FPS game is popular (I prefer L4D… Cuz zombies are teh coolness).

But I dunno… Some good arguments coming from both sides. And, since none of us are on the inside, we’ll never really know what the case is…

Well sfiv sold a lot but really charging for costumes is really stupid… it’s already completed… it’s like halo 3 charging 20 dollars for 2 maps… that’s what kind of price capcom has for costumes.

It’s freaking costumes not 20 stages

My only comeback for this comment is this: Halo 3 ODST

There’s another large reason for DLC – not as many hands held out for a cut of the revenue.

Micro$oft and Sony take 30% or so off the top; Capcom likely has a deal in place that the percentage is somewhat lower. That’s a better margin for them than selling the game to BestBuy and Gamestop and the like in the first place, where a $40 game is sold in at $30 or so.

A “great” attach rate for DLC is 30% of original product purchasers. They completely expect that not everyone will go for DLC, but they’ll make a good return on the ones that do.

So let’s say that SSFIV sells 1 million copies at retail. $30 million right there, but then you need to pay outstanding costs – manufacturing company, shippers, marketing, etc. You don’t see all $30 million of that unless you own all marketing, distribution and manufacturing as well.

Then, let’s assume 333k (30%) of purchasers buy just one DLC @ $10, so we’ll say Capcom gets $7 of that. Total from one DLC: $2.3 Million. You just made 7.6% of your original sales figure off of one DLC pack… and all that money goes to the company, none to the middle-men.

If you’d included that in the game, and raised the price say $5 (retail), you’d only see a small percentage of that, because your price to retailers would only go up by a fraction, and the shippers and manufacturers still take their cut.

DLC is like super-sizing for McDonalds - almost pure profit.

doesnt microsoft also charge some kind of premium to put stuff on their store for download?

i dont think sony does this, but it would be more money out of developers pockets.

I don’t understand how Capcom just snatched away the new costumes and now charging them as DLC. I mean Namco gives us plenty of costumes for free.

There’s no such thing as distribution without some kind of money changing hands.

I finally say something somewhat intelligent, and you completely overshadow it with something genius… Bastard…

Tekken generally out sells SF

that sounds about right imho.

if it wasnt for the uproar it would cause they’d try and do things like,
buy game but need to unlock last level as dlc.

that in principle is almost the same as costumes on the disc for sale as extra dlc.
but because one seems less vital one is accepted and the other is left out (in case of murder)

i don’t see how the part the data plays in the game make the principle of selling things already on the disc changes its acceptability.

Well, if there is complaint of costumes being on disc and having to pay to unlock it(saving HDD space) How else would you unlock it? It also lets people with very bad internet connections download the unlock much more easily than if it were a pack. It may not be a problem some places but I’ve heard of people literally taking a full day to 3 days to download a DEMO of a game.

Lol, maybe the costumes on disc are all the wrong size! And you pay for the virtual tailor to come to your system and lightspeed change them into wearable pieces! :wtf:

Why is size even an issue when we’re talking about costumes? It’s not like Mass Effect 2 where you have to download half a gig to get a new squad member (which I might add is free)

Some people DL more than others. HDDs range anywhere from 12G-250G currently. On my 360 I have 60G of GH and RB music, that’s too much space taken up imo. You are right that costumes wouldn’t take up much space but it is still space taken up. Anyway, that isn’t the main complaint.

I’ll buy the costumes because unlike bungee who have multi billion dollar company backing them . Capcom doesn’t so every extra buck we give them the incentive to keep creating great fighting games. We get what we pay for and I want to get a new Darkstalkers game .

There’s SC too and Capcom makes more money than Namco. 91.8 billion . 8.06 billion net income They also seem to put out more games per year.

Namco’s 8.5 billion in revenue and recently lost 31 billion yen.

Chunli - skin tight jeans black heels, fitted leather jacket, hair out and flowing
Ken in tuxedo with hair out like in alpha or in wooly addidas tracksuit with hoody trainers
Fei long in yellow game of death suit (seen it on youtube from PC version, brilliant!) or the black kung fu suit he wears in enter the dragon
Balrog topless with black tyson shorts n boots
Akuma with straw hat like raiden in mortal knombat (havent decided on the out fit but it should b torn and look official like hes just finished 24hrs of training!)
Bison with cloak (havent figured out costume yet but something similat to the Dark Knight would be kool!)
Ibuki or Guy should have something similar to Ryu Hyabusa
Cody should have Final Fight Costume
T Hawk Should have Native American Headdress (I know its not functional for fighting but would look good)
Rose should have a sexy short dress on maybe?
RYU - not sure
Deejay should have red gold and green striped addidas tracksuit

Cant think of any more as of yet

A little late for what you feel some of those characters should have, don’t you think?

For SFIV I bought all the costumes but since I rarely use about 80% of them I’m going to be more selective of which ones I buy this time around

is there any prototypes of new costumes out, dont have time for 25 page costume discussion atm? Any links?
