Sakura is one of the only characters that had 1 frame of not being airborne after invincibility on backdash. she is invincible from 1-8, grounded on 9 and airborne from 10-whatever
cody is invincible 1-8 and airborne on 9, there is nothing to fix for him.
Sorry if this derails things just a bit, but my brother and I were conceptualizing something I thought would’ve been pretty neat.
Imagine if Cody got a 0 frame, cancellable knife-drop move. So in essence, when you had the knife you’d have a one-time chainable special that would give you an effect similar to say, makoto’s cancel Hayate or Viper’s SJC. I thought that would be a really cool way of making the knife a little more viable, because then you could do interesting combos like a few slashes xx SKC (super knife cancel? lol) into Ultra or something.
I don’t THINK it would be broken since the knife is pretty hard to get/hold onto in general, plus you lose it when you use a bunch of attacks anyway. Of course I don’t really play the most Cody so I could be way off base. I just thought it would’ve been an interesting concept.
Again sorry for the tangent, I just thought it was a neat idea and wanted to share it.
I think the few buffs that cody got is capcoms way of saying that they think cody is great the way he is and that his full potential hasnt been reached… i believe them, there needs to be more codys out at tournaments seriously. If you dont believe in codys potential you should have seen the last guard crush…
definitely not sayin i dont, but what cody action went down @ guard crush, as i missed it… links for the lazy?
i think theres not enough knifin around @ present
edit:
i checked out the results thread & chris hu tends to rock cody rather well, but it looks like aulord was pullin some cody out & placing 2nd
no vids?
Yah cody was getting alot of love. Hu took out art with cody and i believe Aulord took out sanford with cody and almost sent dieminon into losers but guile is guile… still great matches tho. As for vids idk why spooky hasnt got them yet on his account, i hope he doesnt forget about them becuz of canada cup becuz it was one great guard crush. And even as good as they were doing they could have been better i could tell that they had more to learn with the character, and thats even more promising for cody imo. The hardest matchup ive seen for cody so far imo is bison, and i think thats why cody got that one lk defensive buff…
He did post them…its just under guard crush 11 2v2…this one of winners finals is so hype cause hu comes back in a huge way…so fun to watch especially at then end. I love cody…there is also i think 2 other videos of them in bracket and in grand finals too…u can find it all under the akumahokoru account
Now that everyone’s changes were announced, it looks like Cody will have an alright time in AE. Pretty much seems like if you were doin’ alright with him in Super, you should be doing even better in AE :lovin:
I just personally don’t like the matchup against DJ and it’ll prob get a bit more challenging in AE but whatevs.
I’ve thought about doing a thread to discuss the changes for everybody in relation to cody, but seeing as this forum is mostly “near dead” it wouldn’t make much sense.
but as a recap the most notable changes in terms of MU:
much better for cody:
cammy - instant canon dive gone. 'nuff said
slightly better for cody:
zangief - ex hand knockdown kicked = less knock downs = less wakeup situations = less problems
seth - missing arms will help to zone and poke better in mid game. cody deals enough dmg to get around his health buff.
slightly more in cody’s disadvantage:
dee jay - better wakeup game, better projectiles, more pressure, more damage
makoto - overall way better, cody has problems with rush down, and here she’ll exceed
the rest should feel the same even tho some got nerfs/buffs, the gameplan hasn’t much changed. (e.g hakan, gen, sakura etc WILL be harder to play against, but they didn’t get “new” stuff to change your gameplay; same for nerfs for ryu, akuma, ibuki etc, tho tatsu escape gone will help a little, but it’s a very specific situation)
but I could have forgot some changes that I didn’t consider.** what do you think and why?**
also: not all changes have been revealed so far, there are many “hidden changes” which will only face slowley.
I’m happy about the Cammy instant dive-kick being gone but she’s still gonna have lots of offensive tools so if Cody gets knocked down, it’s still gonna be a tough ride. Recently an unblockable was found for Cammy that works on a few characters, I really hope Cody isn’t one of them (he wasn’t mentioned as one of the ones the last time I checked)…
Fei-Long is still gonna be tough. I don’t think this matchup is changed for the better or worse, probably just the same odds as is in Super since both characters are staying relatively the same. Though invincibility on HK Chicken Wing being removed is nice. I hope his damage overall got nerfed but that wasn’t mentioned in the notes.
Hopefully Yang/Yung will be free/weak on their wakeup and also have 900 HP since their offensive options seem pretty strong. They can both change the trajectory of their divekicks depending on the strength of the kick, so if their low-kick divekick trajectory is similar to their Third Strike moves, then it may come down to using situational anti-airs a lot more than usual. Hopefully the trajectory on LK divekick can’t be done so fast/low that back + MP won’t hit it and HK Ruffian won’t be fast enough.
Adon is already a strong character in Super and will be even stronger in AE but I don’t think it will change the tempo of the match. You’re still gonna get crossed up like crazy on wakeup and will have to watch for frametraps and tick throw setups.
Ibuki’s stun/dmg on neckbreaker is down which is a plus for all characters but even more so for Cody since he’s always stuck in the vortex no matter what on an untechable wakeup.
Nothing much was done to Rufus so this match is still gonna be shitty in terms of divekick pressure.
Rose losing her U2 invincibility is magnificent. One of the biggest nerfs in AE along with Seth’s jumping HP.
I just wish Cody gets a faster walk speed but I don’t think this will happen since his character’s personality is based around not giving a crap about anything so walking like a zombie is pretty reflective to that lol.
Adon will be slightly nicer just for the change to his wakeup speed. It took me forever to figure out why i could never safejump him on wakeup when RJs are 4 and 5 frame startup. Adon gets away with so much crap purely because you can’t really do shit after knocking him down, which hoses a character like Cody.
The changes to Bison should also make that matchup less retarded. Easier to stuff c.lk and more pushback on lk.scissors? Yes please. Thank you.
The Gief changes i don’t think are going to matter that much for Cody, for some reason. Even without KD on hit, EX hand still puts you in a really bad guessing game just from the SPD being something you can only anticipate, not react to.
Akuma, i’m actually worried about comboing into U2. It doesn’t seem like a big deal on its own, but it’s one more thing in a matchup that sort of sucked to begin with thanks to the vortex and teleport.
Cammy’s probably just going to be a slightly different kind of nightmare. Personally, i never cared much about TKCS, so the nerf to that doesn’t sound to me like it’s going to balance out the buffs to things like the increased frame advantage on normals.
Deejay’s going to be a whole new world of suck to get in on. Just everything about his changes screams 7-3 matchup to me.
The changes to Hawk’s s.rh and super may make this one of the most frustratingly idiotic matchups for just about everyone if the damage stays the same.
based on google translation + interpretation skillz:
confirmed: crack kick => ex cu connect full: does 290 damage.
nj.hp, s.hp, c.mp xx hk ruffian fadc, crack kick, ex cu should do around 494 damage now (If i calculated right).
crack kick => ruffian has been said to connect aswell
couldn’t make anything up in that regard. but I’d say bingo is way to slow. lk ruffian can’t hit it as it does not have any juggle potencial.
I think mk and ex ruffian should hit. I think for HK the height is insufficent when it comes out but dunno.
okay street11 was so kindly to translate some stuff for me:
Crack Kick => MK Ruffian probably has to be a counterhit or “meaty” (hittin with later active frames) to hit on everybody. Otherrwise it seems character specific, but not sure since it wasn’t tested on every single cast. It has strict timing and seems range dependet against some.
Crack Kick => HK Ruffian seems to miss against some characters. (Fuerte, Ibuki)
Crack Kick -> EX Ruffian -> EX Criminal should be decent in damage + stun
(Calculated: 384 Damage and 484 Stun(!), not that bad for a Poke followup)
About Crack Kick itself, it felt like the priority got stronger. In later part of the move Ryu’s sweep whiffed.
(Note: Dunno if it isn’t allready the case, however it can mean that he jumps higher. Maybe even airborn?)
EX Ruffian => Wake-up cross-up doesn’t cross up any longer.
(Dunno what this means)
Crack Kick on airborne opponent => Crack Kick connected. Not sure if follow-up attacks are possible.
(You should be able to followup with EX CU and U2 dust at least)
Looks like there was some confusion in transition between me and zUkUu, especially 2nd and 3rd point, so I would try to clear things up a bit by rewording by translation.
Crack Kick -> MK/HK Ruffian didn’t connect on Dan, in particular.
If you were to follow-up after Crack -> HK Ruffian -> FADC, Crack Kick -> EX Ruffian -> EX Criminal should be decent in damage + stun
Plus there was some confirmation by a separate player minutes ago:
Crack -> MK Ruffian should connect regardless of distance if you input MK Ruffian as early as possible
To Dan, there is a distance where MK Ruffian would connect and would not
Crack -> HK Ruffian doesn’t connect on Fuerte on Ibuki, even in close range
