if you look at a recent post in the front page, capcom developers say they purposely leave some characters unbalanced. I think cody is the unfortunate one.
look at the start post. that’s all he got. those 3 changes. so no hk ruffian hittin crouchers.
and that statement is directed at MvC3 not at ssf4.
You are absolutely 100% sure that Cody received no other changes?
Being a little dramatic here aren’t we? If Capcom really hated Cody they would have nerfed him for no particular reason (poor El Fuerte, poor poor El Fuerte…) or made his Ultras suck (See: Guile’s U2)
you can meaty jump in on cody for free on his wake up. He will be forced to block, everything else will fail. EX bingo is very difficult to auto correct and people will usually fall through his invincible frames on that move and be able to block easily. once someone gets in on cody they can force you to block and tech all day. When someone is putting good pressure on you, there is really NOTHING cody can do.
correction: you could just continue to block and look for an opening to release the ex bingo, but that also is very difficult to time. Bottom line: cody’s horrible wake up options can really spell his doom
Yes, Cody’s wakeup is terrible but it takes high defensive fundamentals if you want to play him at a high level. Bad wakeup is ALL people talk about with Cody, he is average or above in every other aspect of gameplay. I know Cody’s wakeup options are bad but that doesn’t really affect my gameplay, it just makes my overall defence better. You just gotta work with what you got mayne
Also the UK have finally got AE and I must say that Cody’s c.LK is GATLIKE! That little change helps him a LOT! And it helps in a lot of matchups like Fei Long and Abel. I like the new juggle potential off of f.HK, it can potentially be an AA option now because of the damage potential off a trade or clean hit.
For some reason it feels like c.MK has been improved, can anyone confirm this for me please?? Also EX Zonk change doesn’t really seem to have any effect to it’s uses at all, maybe for you guys??
i was thinking if it indeed travels less horizontal distance(can you confirm this?), then you could set it up as a meaty 1 hitter? just an idea
stop dreaming - cody ain’t got more changes, it was stated that NO SPECIAL recived any change, so these are out of question. Forn normals [except c.lk being 3f], I really doubt there were any changes aswell, IF there were any, it would have been mentioned in either of the capcom’s AE change blogs or discovered by now.
but I’m interested in crack kick, has someone tested the circumstances it needs to hit with hk/mk ruffian afterwards? I heard it’s character specific, but possible on all with particular timing / distance.
Did you forget that Capcom never mentioned all the changes to ANY character because they want players to find stuff out? Yeah this. The crack kick -> MK ruffian seemed to work on anyone at any range for me. I don’t think you can connect HK Ruffian off a grounded crack kick but maybe AA.
Yea I guess it’s possible the Devs, lied about Cody not having other changes…wish they had more Furansujin AE footage. I remember seeing him in top 20 (#11 I think). But future listings had him not playing any further games. Love watching his Cody, great reflexes and plays a style that fits the character.
yeah they don’t reveal everything for chars that recived tons of changes, but cody has only those 3, thus they only mentioned these. also, they said explecit about cody’s specials “nothing changed”. and I think we can trust that statement at least. again, I THINK [biased] his normals didn’t changed, due to above reason + at this time it would be revealed at some point by any cody mainer around the globe.^^
I heard you can connect hk ruffian - again maybe char specific and even then maybe only as CH or at a particular range etc.

I was playing AE earlier today and used EX Zonk from a distance to clear a fire ball from evil ryu. Did not hit but the ryu only blocked for one of the hits. Don’t know if this helps but was an observance

I’m new to Cody (From Chun), been practicing for about a week on SSFIV and last weekend I went and tried out AE Cody. The only changes I’ve read about were from this thread, and I had in mind that there was almost no difference (except c.LK thingy… and EX CU connecting fully after f+HK)
But omg! I did f+HK > f+HK by mistake in a match and I was wondering how did it happen lol! I didn’t know that worked, I was seriously surprised at it as I didn’t read about this. It’s amazing!
I also did try f+HK->MK Ruffian. I only tried it on one character (Forgot who lol… maybe Ibuki). It’s a bit harder to land than EX CU. It feels like you have to anticipate that the f+HK will hit and be ready to do the MK Ruffian. I might be wrong though! But thats exactly how I felt when I tried it.
I have no idea about EX Bingo and whether it has changed or not tbh.
HK Ruffian hitting crouching characters? Really? That would be awesome but I doubt it. Haven’t tried it yet but I don’t think it will work.
Finally played AE yesterday. EX bingo feels different. Feels like he either doesnt move forward as much or the startup time has been lessened. At one point, I was able to hit someone out of a jump in attack with it on my wake up.
Nothing else seemed different other than what the developers mentioned. Had EX CU stuffed clean at one point.
The new 3f c.lk is beast. Halts all forward movement.
