nice, so Im gonna start gathering more info…in the meanwhile, you could think for a cool/random rame for the thread, pm me your ideas =P
I think the match-up information has to go much more in-depth than what’s in the OP of this thread.
Info on various knockdown setups on each character is as important to playing Akuma as zoning information.
Agree, two random matchups that are killing me lately are Dhalsim and T. Hawk. The former I play more often and have limited success with, but I feel like I’m missing something.
Sim can slide under my demon flips and a patient one can keep me out all day with pokes. I don’t have much success focus dashing through them either, or covering myself with air fireballs. Any time I do get in there they seem to tele away, or slide under me and backdash off before I get a chance to make much happen.
Following the advice of this thread I just lame it out against giefs in general, although I sometimes pressure with demon flip divekicks into mixups after knockdown. With T. Hawk though, I can’t seem to be anywhere near him at all, or stay far away for long, and even if i get a knockdown i don’t seem to be able to vortex him I don’t play many of them but I have been completely melted by a few.
T hawk is totally free to akuma…i don’t see how you can have trouble in this matchup. You CAN vortex him (until he has his AA ultra at least) and he can be zoned pretty well…all his dives are totally unsafe.
i think my problem is mainly lack of playing the matchup
seems like if i approach him on the ground i eat a random poke or that condor spire (?), in the air i eat dps and i seem to get hit by random dives lots too… i guess i just need to find someone who’s decent with him and get a bit of practice in.
dont approach, you have all the tools to run away from Hawk the whole damn fight.also, condor spire is unsafe on block, its a free DP, all of them.
^ Not true. All of them can be spaced so he can be safe.
For this match, use air fireballs like crazy. If any hit, walk up and sweep. Cross up tatsu’s are then awesome.
Once you’re cornered, look for a chance to jump tatsu out.
I have not played too many T. Hawks but this is just at least how I play it.
yes I am aware of good spacing, in those cases I just teleport away or jump back fireball. but if you happen to block a badly spaced one its a free dp or super if you have it.
Im curious on how you punish condor dive? I walk, then far HK, cr.mp, lk tatsu into hp shoryu or sweep depending if I want to vortex or just runaway, I think vortexing hawk is quite easy but dangerous as well, you might eat a reversal SPD/U1 for trying to do too many mixups.
Yeah, I do not suggest anti-airing T. Hawk with cr. hp or far st. hp because of his condor dive. I will only anti-air with hp srk and that’s only if he is close.
Punishing condor dive is just with any far st. hk combo. I almost always end with a sweep.
And I would just do a mixup with a cross up tatsu and such, and if they block it, I would suggest just getting out with a backdash or something.
^^ This.
Good T.Hawks won’t use Condor Dive too much on Akuma. Especially if you have Ultra available. Even without ultra, it’s punishable as all heck on block. They’ll use Condor Spire to get in and then use their normals which have HUGE reach to keep you moving back. I like to keep moving in this match at all times. Use st. HK sparingly to keep him guessing and only use SRK as an AA when he’s about a jump away - They can bait an SRK if they goad you into thinnking they’re going to do a Condor Dive from outside jump range and you’ll eat a combo or MT if you do.
DF Palm is great against Hawk on wakeup and the x-up tatsu as well (when used sparingly).
guys, what do you do vs Deejay? I have absolutely no idea what to do vs this guy, keepaway doesnt work, vortex doesnt work, no idea what to do, any help?
Think Guile, but not nearly as free on wakeup. Poorly spaced (and released) FB’s from you can be punished by EX Sobats, so watch out! Use LP Shaku to break up his barrage of Air Slashers while mixing in the odd MP or HP shaku to surprise him. Slides are punishable. You’re going to have to be creative on wakeup as his EX Jacknife will stuff anything you have. At 4 frames startup, I don’t think it can even be safe jumped correctly. He can even do it late to auto-correct and stuff any cross-up attempts.
DF Palm works up until he has EX stock… He’s just a big pain all around. Your ground game has to be better than average if you want to come out on top, and that’s just against decent opponents. If the one playing him is really good and knows all DeeJay’s tricks… I recently played a DJ online in Endless and he kept doing his Knee Shot (D + LK after Jumping forward) and that shit would stuff almost everything I tried. It starts in 4 frames and is active until he hits the ground!! It’s such a bullshit move!
I never did manage to win a match against him. The best I managed was to win a round or two in about 6-7 matches. Guy was really annoying, but really good too.
Low meaty normals on wake up against Deejay.
DJay more or less owns Akuma imho. You can’t expect to use Guile tactics against DJay and win. DJay’s slide and sabot kicks just neutralizes Akuma’s fireball/footsies tactic. And jump ins, Akuma eats rising kick. Terrrible matchup overall in DJay’s favor.
I just mainly ZONE DJay for knockdowns then continue to ZONE once he regains defense/offensive opportunities.
His Sobat kicks are punishable if miss spaced and they come nowhere close to neutralizing Akuma’s footsies. They are slow on start up and recovery so it is rather easy to move out of the way and punish the whiff if he attempts to go for a tipper.
His Jack Knife kicks may be annoying, but there are ways around it. I find ground and baiting tactics work the best against DJ.
I’ll write more about it when I return to my home for Thanksgiving break. But there are only a couple match ups I say are against Akuma and Deejay is far from one of them.
Zone how? With what? You just said that “his slides and sobat kicks neutralize your FB and footsies”, so what are you zoning him with then? And I never said he should use GUILE strategies solely, but that DJ does have some Guile-like qualities so some of the same matchup rules could apply.
It’s not a terrible matchup for Akuma at all, though I wouldn’t call it easy by a long shot.
@ Nu-Skoool: Wouldn’t EX Sobat or EX Jacknife beat those?
LoyalSol,
I’ll be looking forward to your DJay write up tactic for Akuma. Then I’ll test them to see how effective/applicable they are. At the moment, I find this one of my more difficult matchup, next to Balrog, Dictator, and Chun. I dread DJay more than Guile - losing to DJay more than Guile overall.
Venom,
When I said ZONE, I meant distance-spacing obviously where the sabot kick won’t reach or hit on reaction including the slide under fireballs. That’s why I said DJay can neutralize Akuma’s footsies - solely on reaction more or less. And obviously, this also eliminates any jump-in attempts too. Basically, I ZONE via ground and air fireballs from a safe distance and ocassionally DF palm/throw if I see DJay napping. If I get a knockdown then I try to capitalize with damage (vortex) and cowardcopter or teleport away if/once DJay gains defensive/offensive opportunities. With meter, EX sabot is almost as good as Guile’s EX sonic boom. And all DJay’s jump in (lk, mk, hk etc.) air to air flat out beats anything I attempt - from my battle experiences. Yeah, sometimes I can shoryu the jump ins but like anything timing is a factor.
Those are my views and DJay experiences. Luckily, not many DJays out there and may explain my lack of viable tactics. waiting on Sol’s write up
Nope. Ex Sobat starts up in 15 frames. If its meaty youll recover before then. Plus crouching forward will poke him out. As for ex jacknife he’ll go right over your head. Much like doing a crouching forward on guys wakeup to get around his tornado kicks.
Found this out during a matchup between Bison and a Deejay at Canada Cup. Came right from Gootecks mouth.
this is a repost i need to know how to os gouken df does df palm dp work or is there another way u guys r using for this
yeah right, thats why i saw tokido getting beat down by another top hawk player in jpn. and tokido is like the best gouki player in the world, with momochi and sako being the only goukis on hisn level. seems you only fought scrubby hawks.
