SSF4 Akuma Match Up Thread

…as I said before, this shit isn’t reliable…I tried that in training mode and it often whiffed because of Honda’s hitbox.

Also yeah, good hondas don’t do fullscreen headbutts because when they are at fucking full screen you can just load them with hadoken and they can’t do shit about it since ex headbutt doesn’t pass through them and his ultra doesn’t have enough reach.

A good honda will headbutt you from half screen distance, where you cannot throw fireballs because of his ridiculous j.hp that covers half screen. From that distance it’s really, REALLY hard to dp a headbutt on reaction…hell, even daigo doesn’t do that. And doing a teleport into U2 would require equal if not even better reflexes than that.
And don’t tell me that you teleport “predicting” a headbutt because that’s suicide unless the honda started playing 1 week ago.

Until I see a proof of this in an actual match vs a good honda I call bullshit on this, but whatever,

Honda:
U2 should be preferable for Honda. It is pretty consistent to back teleport xx U2 against headbutts or descending butt slams. However, good players will probably not either of these too much, but it is still nice to have.

U2 can also be used as a safe jump option select to beat headbutts and the lk butt slam. Or you can option select back teleport xx U2 to beat all headbutts and all the butt slams if you cancel to U2 at specific times depending on the strength of the butt slam.

You don’t wanna be combo’ing st. hp xx tele xx u2 like JR did in that video against Honda and Vega. I think there are some other characters but I forgot. :stuck_out_tongue:

Adon:
I actually haven’t been practicing against Adon too much. But this is also another good matchup to use U2 in. Back tele xx U2 is a pretty good option to beat both jaguar kicks and tooths. Relatively easily react-able. A common situation to do this is when you block a cr. mp because Adon’s like to do cr. mp xx mk jag kick. Block the cr. mp, back tele, and then U2 if you see the jag kick. If you can react and do a hp srk also to beat the jag kick, that would be really helpful.

Also, I’m not sure but for the jaguar tooth, try testing out some normals. Try out st. mp, st. hp, st. hk, and cr. hp against it. I actually do not know and do not have a Super copy to test it out. Go test it for me please. :slight_smile:

Adon’s uppercut has good invincibility but it’s not too hard to stuff. It’s very similar to Sagat’s uppercut (5 frame startup and invincibility iirc). Delay your demon flip so it has the timing of a meaty demon flip throw, and then press kicks at the top of your arc while aiming at his head. However, it’s important to note that Adon wakes up wayyy faster than other characters.

You also can do a meaty demon flip palm (or jumping hk) as a safe jump. It’s a 2-frame window for the safe jump, but it’s awkward again because of his wakeup timing.

Cross up Tatsu’s are good as well.

Bison:
Demon flip grab can get punished if he EX psycho crusher. It’s gay. If he back teleports, I think you are too far to punish him. Also gay.

Demon flip palm (or jumping hk) option select :hk: Tatsu will whiff pass EX psycho (kinda rare though; you will often get hit), catch the back teleport (and can juggle with a hp srk), miss (but is safe) against EX headstomp/reverse, and hit if he backdashes.

Demon flip palm (or jumping hk) option select :lk: Tatsu will hit EX psycho from the behind, whiff if he back teleports (safe though), whiff (but safe) against EX headstomp/reverse, and hit if he backdashes.

Demon flip palm (or jumping hk) option select U1/Super will catch if he backdashes, EX psycho or back teleports (not forward teleport) and miss if he EX headstomp/reverse.

Oh and all these option selects fail if he EX scissor kicks.

Can you combo into anything after you hit his EX psycho with LK tatsu? Which OS do you prefer to use against bison?

Also, OS MP shoryu awill beat EX psycho, EX devil’s reverse, and backdash. However, it’ll lose to teleport, EX stomp(good bisons won’t wake up with this), and trades with EX scissor kicks. Just something to note.

Naww, the lk Tatsu will hit from the behind and you can’t do anything. I mix up between no option select, lk Tatsu, and hk Tatsu against Bison.

After a BnB into lk Tatsu, I like to reset with st. hp (or cr. mp if they are far) xx mk df palm OS mp srk.

I don’t do the OS mp srk, but I think I will more now. It sometimes will lose to EX psycho if you do the safe jump too early iirc. Because I was always used to doing the OS lk Tatsu, and you need to do the safe jump early in order for it to work.

Just tried it and it works ridiculously well. Its strange because its an actual protruding kick so you wouldn’t think that you could demon it, based off other protruding kicks suck as Cammy’s U1 and super. Thanks for the tip bro. The Jag tooth is actually a rather frail attack. It can be stuffed by any number of options. If I have U1 I have found even just jumping backwards works great because if you see he went for the full screen versions you can demon nearly on reaction.

Yeah! This works O.o!! I agree with u, U2 seems preferable for honda. I also use U2 for Fei long. U can punish his CW. Even if he does CW+CW u can cancel U2. And like honda u can option select teleport+U2 to beat his flame kick and CW. And If he tries to punish the teleport with Rekka u can cancel U2 but.you must have a good reaction so be careful…Also when u are in the corner u can run away of him using Air-Tatsu and if he tries to punish ur tatsu with rekka u can use U2 to punish it.

Eita uses U2 for fei long too.

Fei has an amazing focus attack and most use it a lot, which makes U1 valuable in this matchup, plus you can cancel your sweep into U1 if you see him want to punish your sweep’s recovery on block.

Quick question. When ever i get a KD on cammy, i always feel like her DP is raping my asshole. Can demonflip kick stuff her DP?

no but you can safe jump her with d.mk dive kick…immediately after a sweep hold up forward and do the d.mk at the peak of the jump…that’s actually a true safe jump vs her.

I know lol he has the best focus in the game but you cant Do Sweep againts fei because he punishes u easy with rekka. And a good fei leave to do Focus when he sees u have Ultra. I have played againts starnab, evans or roy macoi (Top fei players). That is not a good option

lol I wish I did, I just mentioned that because I saw Tokido doing it to a Fei player (I think it was Mago) :P, I think it’s more based on anticipation than reaction, but from some of the stuff I’ve seen Uryo pull off recently based on his insane reactions, I wouldn’t be surprised if some people are able to cancel the sweep into ultra vs Fei’s rekka on reaction!

yea i like u1 for him . For the above reason, as well as when you knock fei down, and go for xup tatsu or anything, most tend to cw out. U can os or even sometimes land and demon . Will catch them everytime. This has in fact made this matchup so much easier for me . Cuz now it shuts down one of there wake up options, and are forced to block.

New akuma having a problem here… how do you deal with Claw’s c.mp? I found best solution for me is to try sweep CH or getting outside range and if hes spam happy hado him…

Also I tested this in training mode but want to make sure that im right, Kens wakeup SRK seems to be safejumpable? (dash x2 mk dfk) lp and mp version got stuffed and fp/EX whiffs totally?

vs. Claw: Wait him out. It’s not worth trying to out poke him as he’ll have the range and priority to snuff out almost anything you try. His normals don’t do any chip damage so just wait until he pushes you out of his range.Then he’ll have to do something like roll or wall dive to get to you. Or he may try a hop kick into throw set up. Or if he thinks you like to crouch low a lot, he’ll try to overhead you or even just walk up throw you.

vs. Ken: I believe you have to do the Dive Kick meaty for what you say to be true. A properly spaced and timed DF Dive Kick will stuff any of his wakeup SRK attempts (except EX I think…?). If you want to bait stuff out (like his Ultra), try - Dash x2, Jump forward and stick out an MK late while holding down back. If he tries an SRK or Ultra on wakeup, you’ll land and block it, then you can punish as you please.
