SSF4 Akuma Match Up Thread

rugi: the os sweep on roses wakeup is weird, because i know it is possible to sweep the ex drill, but i haven’t been able to consistently do it. still a risk for me.

and the whole df palm and sweeping backdashes on reaction hopefully will help alot against the balrogs i play. cant believe i never thought of something so simple. it was always a guess for me whether they would headbutt or backdash, so i had resorted to df palm os cr mk to beat both, but i dont get the knockdown that way.

Just going to point this out. Trying to vortex cammy is very difficult now that there is an opslect for auto correct dP on wake up. The only way to beat this opselect is to have the dive kick land on the one frame of vulnerability cammy has before airbourne on dP. This is extremely hard as you could see even tokido only landed it couple of times and got punished HARD when he failed. The dp opselect basically makes it to where if the opponent safe jumps Cammy blocks and if he doesn’t you get dP/auto correct dP (mostly for x-UP tatsu). In my opinion demonflip palm->opselect dP is the best bet here since if cammy fucks up you get a free dP or you have block adv. This is a match I play VERY often. If ya’ll ever want to play against cammy hit me up.

I haven’t got it down consistent but even if you’re within TAP range, you can jab him out of it because of the long startup and combo to sweep. I’ll make a video of that too.

i can see how you can os auto correct dp a cross up tatsu, can akuma, ryu, etc do same thing?

would this os lose to an empty jump?

but i dont get how you can make it so that a safe jump is blocked, and a non safe jump is dped(non cross up)

or am i understanding this wrong?

If you’re not sweeping the drill then you aren’t timing the safejump correctly. The trick is to jump before rose starts her wake-up animation, but still late enough that you can land the roundhouse in block-stun before you hit the ground. Once you figure that out, I don’t believe there is any way her drill will come out before the OS sweep will. Just practice it in training mode enough to get the timing down, because it will make your life much easier against rose. Even if you OS palm I think she can still safely drill without being punished, so best case scenario is you block the EX drill and the situation is reset to neutral. If you get the timing down on OS sweep she literally can’t do ANYTHING but block. I promise you, if you practice that OS sweep for like 2 hours you’re set for life against rose. Unless she has U2 loaded. Then you just have to try and bait her into burning it, then go back to raping her on wake-up.

what is the difference between cammy and ryu’s dp in terms of autocorrect? can’t they both do the same auto correct dp os? Ryus comes out in 3 frames, cammy’s in 5.

I pmed bokkin about this but in case anyone else wants to chime in input, what are the best oki options for C.Viper? I keep getting blown up offline because whenever I score knockdowns I can’t capitalize them because of ex seismo shenanigans. I’ll give you an example.

This is how my knockdowns went in the round that cost me the match:
1: I safejump rh, DevilJin01 does ex seismo. I block the seismo and burnkick crossup, no damage achieved.
2: I do crossup tatsu, it hits, I score another knockdown.
3: roundhouse demon flip. DevilJin01 does ex seismo, and beats the kick. I score no damage.
4: down+mk dive kick, DevilJin01 does ex seismo feint into throw and beats the mixup. I score no damage.
5: crossup tatsu, DevilJin01 does ex seismo which misses, but the invincibility gets him out of the mixup. I score no damage.

From there I lost the round because when I went for tick throws, he mashed out lk burn kick and hit me out of the throw whiffs, along with me getting outfootsied by c.mp, etc…

Ok, Zangief. What the FUCK was Capcom thinking when they made him? Easy and amazing lariat + mashing SPD’s + useless fireballs = rape. I tried zoning with fireballs and would just eat a jump attack or they’d be focused. Its WAY too easy for the him to get in on fireballs unless you’re Guile or Sagat. What I don’t get is this: as he would jump over my fireball I’d do a st. HK, yet he’d have time to land and recover regardless of the fact that my kick connected with him in the air? Arggh, I’m raging at this game again. Coming from over 500 hours of competitive HDR is making this game not make sense. Help!

EDIT: I remember when it took skill to use 'Gief back in ST and HDR, and sheer strategy to evade zoning traps. Now he can just walk forward and easily jump over every useless fireball. And then lariat beats everything. Fucking Capcom, their shitty-ass design choices are driving me nuts.

As far as the gief matchup goes, if they like to approach with lariat through fireballs, you can walk up and sweep him, if they try to green hand to approach then jump and shoot a late fireball low, otherwise, you can df kick the middle of his head on wakeup, and if he tries to lariat you beat it out clean, and if he blocks teleport or jump out quick. Other than that I don’t know, I tend to choose u2 in the matchup so it’s at least a little safer to teleport out if he gets you stuck in a corner, but I not know how much of this is valid for the matchup lol

Funny thing, Engravings is a good friend of mine (take at look at who posted in my Youtube comments section, and who’s also a subscriber). We did that video… on purpose? Hence why its in the “XBL STUPIDITY” section of his Youtube? Hence why we were in the same party chatting? Hence why I actually ended up winning the match? I not mad. U retarded.

EDIT: Thanks, Kirds. My main problem in this match was not being able to punish jump-ins that were too far to SRK. I tried using st. HK but it never worked, this kind of confused me because he was able to block in time somehow. I’m going to change my approach next time, thanks.

If gief likes to jump in, and he’s out of cr. Fierce range, I usually teleport back just stay out of grab range

Geif has such a hard time beating akuma. i dont understand why you guys are having a hard time against him. i play a good geif on a regular basis sometimes 3 times a week. its a really uphill battle for him to beat you. maybe post some videos of your matches and ill shoot you some pointers. there is no reason you should be losing to geif.

I’m all for jokes but it seemed to me like you were just mocking me, but I’d much rather just forget about it and discuss Akuma - the reason we’re here. :slight_smile:

Teleport should be able to avoid the os green hand from that range iirc
