SSF4 Akuma Match Up Thread

You have to do it later than usual. She gets up kinda slow.

Get the sweep. Wait a little bit, DF and hit the kick as soon as she stands up. Reversal kicks get stuffed, EX kicks whiff. Also, close sweep then naked mk dive kick works as well. I’ll try to get a vid recorded.

I’m glad to see Honda is considered a problem matchup… it’s not jus me! Ha. Actually I play against a friend who uses only Honda. I’m the stronger player and tend to go plus, but he knows what he’s doing and steals many annoying wins. So I’ll share some tips Ive picked up and also ask some questions about things that get me:

Tips:
-You MUST have a sharp DP to play this matchup, and be able to do it deep and late and use the invin frames. If Honda is allowed to jump on you, the match is over before it starts. And if you allow him to trade, he’s winning the trades 5x over.
-Once you can teach him Jumping is no good, FB’s keep him at bay. Shoto business as usual. I try to mix in air fbs for variety, but ground FBs seem better as they cant be headbutted under
-You can focus butt smash. Not news, but it should be stated in a vs Honda discussion
-Getting behind him on wakeup (crossups, DF palm over them, etc) tends to be good. Butt smash is ridiculously good as a wakeup move, but it only hits in front and above.
-Unless you really have them scared to do stuff, don’t throw red fbs, they have time to headbutt
-If he tries to advance on the ground, cMK xx FB keeps him back. Can also make them feel jumpy.

Problems:
-Crossup buttsmashes. You can focus, but there’s no auto correct so you face the wrong way. Basically you get punished for focusing these. So what’s good after blocked smash? My opponent like to Butt Smash repeatedly, then mix in grabs and such. Hard to deal with when he’s also crossng up
-When he makes it in and goes for oicho ticks. If we KNOW he’s going to tick oicho, can we get out? In ST I would just DP him after the jab. Can we do that in 4? Sometimes it works, sometimes not. So I dunno if one or both of us is just messing up our timing. Sometimes I jump away, but that can’t be smart against someone who picks up on that tendency.

Anyone else have some thoughts on Honda?

How do you anti air Claw? His jump has such a short time that it’s almost impossible to do shoryuken on reaction without buffering. But if you buffer you are vulnerable to his command kick and slide. Also, when you use j.HP at the right time on Claw, it outright stuffs c.HP no matter the timing on your part. It also is very meaty so doing any kind of neutral/backward/forward jump HP/HK is not possible. Anyone got a good idea how to anti air him?Please don’t say keep him away from jump range because claw has good walk speed and ground pressure, you get backed into a corner in less than 5 seconds if you keep jumping back with zankus.

I used to play a good claw back in vanilla. Knockdown is essential in this match. His reversal upkick move is not that good safejump that ish, once he stops it then rape him for free on wake up. izuna drop is ass in sf4 this isnt turbo. SRK, cr.fp, air fireballs, and straight up teleport out of that.

not sure if you’re trolling or not , but cr hp and back jump rh/fp, basicly your typical anti airs…

I don’t know what claws you’ve been playing sharktongue, but go to training mode and just record claw jumping in with hp that will hit akuma at the earliest when he’s standing and you’ll see c.hp/jump backs all get stuffed. Lay off the insults if you don’t know anything.

if you dont let up on his wake up i dont see how he has time to AA you. aside from that yea ur gonna have to buffer dpm. or ex srk, or teleport out of there.

What you said didn’t make sense, but im assuming you mean if I don’t let him get up after I knock him down, he won’t have time to jump on me. Are you seriously suggesting that I can immediately knock a claw down and keep him down so hard that he won’t ever get up throughout the entire 99 seconds, to the point I won’t get jumped on even once? I’m playing 10k+ claws, getting even a single untechable kd is already hard enough, and they are very good at getting out of it. If you were giving me overall matchup advice instead of the actual answer to my question at least be reasonable.

ok relax its frustrating i know. here are ur options. late srk, ex srk, cr.fp. thats all. there arent any other optoins you have. if you feel u cant do any of that then you have to consciously pay attention for a few matches. eventually ur AA ability will get better. it happens to everyone.

how do u deal with tk blockstrings? the lk. tk is safe i believe, and sagat can keep doing that for free with his jabs and lk.

You can cr.MK under his tk and throw him or hit a free combo if youre fast enough.

Newest tier list has Akuma in the middle, I’d guess a ‘B’ rank. Bad matches include: Cammy, Bison, Balrog, Blanka, Rose, Ryu, and Abel. So he went from arguably #2 in IV to #13.

learn to play. Never have i been in a situation when i’m “standing” while watching a claw jump in on me. Every scenario i can think of vs claws when they are jumping in on me , they have been anti aired. Not sure what kind of akuma you are playing where you are being jumped in on by a claw and worried about jump in fp…

Care to explain to me how ryu and abel are bad matchups?.. the only bad matchup out of everyone you wrote is bison and even bison isnt a horible match.

I can’t explain anything because I wasn’t the one who created the list, I’m only the messenger in this case. I wrote it for the purposes of discussion. I could definitely see Cammy being a horrible match, same with Abel who basically shuts off your fireballs once he has super. I forgot to include that Rufus was also mentioned, and I’ve seen many people here complain of the match so I’ll assume its a hard one. Either way going from top 3 to #13 is a fairly large downgrade, but at least he’ll be spammed less online :slight_smile:

There is no reason why able should ever beat akuma, if you get one single untechable knock down or throw its game. If he has ultra bait it with normals. Able is such an easy match up. cammy is tricky at best. Shes not a horrible match either. You just have to be allot safer. Rufus is a 5/5, pick U2 and Bait EX Messiah Kick if he random U2. Teleport into it and cancel into u2. I completely disagree with akuma going from 3 to 13.

I believe the only thing that hurt akuma is his stun output has been reduced and everyone eles damage output has been increased. With that said, your opponent has to guess wrong more before you can kill them and since everyone hits harder now and akuma didn?t get more life it?s a little bit harder to get wins.
