SSF4 AE v2012 - Official Akuma Changes Discussion

If these changes stick akuma will be balanced. If he didn’t change then akuma would hands down be the #1 character in the game no questions asked. “daigo knows all”, he was about to go akuma cause he knew what was going down.

I just tweeted links to Ono and Seth again. Seems like Seth is getting a lot of tweets about this.

players keep saying these are “unblockables” —I’m a avid AKuma player, they r not unblockables b/c there is a trick to blocking the “unblockable” correctly

One of the smartest things I have heard said about Akuma—only the “true Akuma player” knows this

Akuma can be played like Ryu BUT IT WILL NOT BE AT the most optimal level or to maximize the capability of Akuma’s offensive skills.

If you want to maximize Akuma’s ground game— that can really scare an opponent, is to learn to “whiff punish” with CR.RH thats it!

Everybody is already aware that unblockables are 1 frame blocks. They are referred to as unblockable because it is how everybody has come to accept that terminology concerning these setups.

Ilitirit i missunderstood what u ment apparently. You suggested that just to make s.rh lose a use, i see. Although as Loyalsol said that same OS can happen with close s.lp, although it can even happen with cr.lp which hits to all chars in the game resaulting to the exact same situation. Its just more difficult to do.
Bottom line, thats gonna make akuma execution e bit harder, nothing else.

Personally i believe that Akuma will still be a good character (ofc not even close to the top5) but fact is he doesnt excel in anything now and will be twice as hard to be effective while playing him and most important for me… much more BORING.

Everyone wants akuma to get nerfed, but really do you completely forget his stats? (hp/stun) There isnt any worthy trade of hits for Akuma to get in that game just because of his health. You damn right go and give him tools…

I dont like that terminology bc that dev team at capcom might take that seriously considering they are listening to all the scrubs that complain about akuma.

It requires god-like stability in the way you move Akuma as well as having correct spacing at all times

Translation: now all scruby scrubs will be able to deal with Akuma by mashing more shit online and no one will play him in a tournament setting because there’ll be no reason to put in all the effort it will take only to not even make top 16. Also I’m happy about this cuz my main sucks so I’ll be able to deal…

If I were you, I’d start listenting to people who know how to play the character (LoyalSol, Shin) and stop listening to yourself… But then, that would actually make sense, so of course, you won’t do that will you?

Umm…who the hell thinks Akuma’s gonna be “not worth it” in a tournament setting? You’d have to be either mentally retarded or the biggest crybaby ever to actually think Akuma’s no longer going to be tournament viable.

Fact is it will be MUCH worse now. You have to be mentally retarded to not realise that.

Don’t be silly. It’s already hard work to get wins with Akuma and now they just took away roughly half of our vortex and nerfed one of our best normals. There comes a point where a character just doesn’t have the tools to compete at the highest level. There is now very little incentive to main Akuma if you’re a tourney player and like winning.

Every character is tourney viable if you put enough work into them. The question becomes does character X bring something more to the table than other characters and it it enough to use character X? With these nerfs Akuma is bordering on not bringing enough to the table, which is the problem.

No, they are not. Be it Vanilla, Super or AE. A good number of characters just did not cut it in each version.
Some good players had decent good results once in a while(not actually winning events) and almost always fighting bad match-ups.
If you think Akuma will fall to that category, it makes one wonder.

Why would any PROFESSIONAL SF4 PLAYER waste their time putting in all the extra effort it will take to win with Akuma after these nerfs when they could probably invest it in another character (like Seth) and actually, oh I don’t know, WIN!!

Tokido’s already putting his time into learning other characters (I just saw a replay of him last night playing Seth). He’s also experimenting with other characters like Yang/Yun, probably because he sees what time it is: the Akuma train is about to come to a dead stop… These guys make their money on this game. No win, no money. And after these changes, it’s going to be DAMN hard to win with Akuma (as if it’s not right now).

As for the argument that other characters haven’t been viable since Vanilla, etc, then perhaps Capcom should dedicate their time in making those characters good rather than making good characters bad so that the playing field can be “even”. Just a thought… Throwin’ it out there… shruggs

Ermm almost half the vortex and a heavily nerfed normal out of your main tools? yeah it will make a difference.
But ok if they wanna fix the broken Akuma, why not give him an actual hitbox for his standing jabs, fix the ex tatsu and fix the meter that the u1 gives to the opponent? Do you agree that alot of ppl would bitch about those changes?

Besides all chars have a said gameplay. All of them recieve dmg nerfs, but Akuma gets gameplay changing nerfs. It just keeps getting more boring.
