SSF4 AE Ryu

I’ve been learning Ken for a few months now. There were a few matchups I prefered him in. Probably main him in AE.

I’m maining Ryu still, what i wanted to bed changed, has been changed. I asked recently Air a couple of question on his facebook page, one being if the strong shoryu has actually 1 or more frames of invicibility added to the current strong shoryu. He said that It actually felt stronger and that It never traded. So, being able to have good set of normals to beat everything that the rest of the roster can throw at you, be able to anti air, zone and nice damage, and new set of normals that can allow interesting tech traps, I can’t complain.
But to be honest I’m going to main pretty much every Super Turbo character and not only Ryu, since that is the best Street Fighter.

Those chars in sf4 have nothing to do with theirs st’s versions, they cant even be considered superturbo chars anymore, its a totally different game, just pick anyone you think is cool.

Super Turbo characters? I think you are thinking what you want to think instead of reading my post. (or w.e you say that, you get the point)

THIS IS SRK, people just assume shit…

RE: Phangry,
The Jab DP does look to have slightly more recovery. In that video it lokos like the super connects really late. I’m sure in Super it hits a bit higher when they are falling . I would like to know how the LP DP is “worse mid air”. Mago suggested this in one of those Impressions of AE articles.

Air (Ryu): SSF4 AE Top 10 by Daigo/Tokido/Mago
Do you think all of these characters are 6-4 in their favour against Ryu?

Fei-long, Cammy, and Zangief (due to escape tatsu nerf and improved lp spd) are probably now 6-4 at least, if not worse. I’m not sure about the others. If dive kicks are truly the new wave, yun and yang will also be up. And Makoto has become unto a beast, but I don’t know if it’s all effective enough to reverse the apparent 6-4 ryu had against her. Akuma, Sagat, and Ken are iffy. Viper is probably more or less the same.

So that’s 5 that are likely/probably yes. 1 Maybe. And 4 mostly unknown from my perspective.

My Air Q&A:

1] Do you feel that the link [forward fierce xx crouching fierce] combos more easly?
I think the combos are the same …not any easier or harder

2] Can you combo more easly cross up tatsu xx ex tatsu?

Sorry I dont understand this question.

p.s.
Q2

[details=Spoiler]2] In SSF4, with Ryu, you can do cross up tatsumaki, and after, you can juggle/combo with ex tatsumaki for 3-4 hits, resulting in an average of 20% damage. It feels like a 1 frame link, similar to ex tiger uppercut into ultra 1 with Sagat.
Being the fact that the tatsumaki now is closer to the opponent when it crosses up, because it’s more floaty, I thought that that combo might feel easier…[/details]

3] Do you feel that the strong shoryu has 1 more frame of invincibility? Were you able to use it as a reversal or anti air more successfully? Did it trade less?
It seems like the strong version of srk has more invincibility. It never traded so far

4] Does fierce shoryu feel different at all? Invincibility wise?
Fierce is the same…no difference

5] How does the low forward affect his gameplay? Can people reversal in between more often when doing [low forward xx hadoken] ? or Is it just a timing thing where you just have to know the exact timing but that blockstring ** still works fine?**

The changes of low forward now makes the player to require really really good footsies…no more like random low forward where u can stuff or counters ur opponent…and it’s SHORTER now. Also, there are certain range after a counter hit attack where you can combo in ssf4…now doesn’t reach anymore.

Daigo, Tokido, Mago’s Top 10 Tier List

Fei Long vs Ryu: 5-5/6-4

Fei needs to spend meter to get in with the chicken wing now or jump in, or footsie rekka; all of those are not the safest things in the world.
I feel that Ryu has all the tools to keep him out and play an even match. In super you can use standing strong, with correct timing, to counter his rekkas, which means in AE, you can throw a hadoken right after. If they made standing strong’s hitbox beefier, this could help a lot beating rekkas and keeping him away and then apply pressure. other than that, I feel that It might be an even battle, but everything could change once i get my hands on the game changes.

Yun vs Ryu: ?

Have no experience, from the videos I saw Yun seems beatable but still very dangerous. Daigo’s Yun lost to a Ryu, that says something, also Air was able to beat Yun in one of his uploads. I feel that you don’t throw many hadokens and just put in his head to don’t jump or else you’re going to fuck him up, and his mother…and sister (if she ain’t ugly…w.e off topic)
Not many hadokes, control space with your normals and safe jumps.
Again, I feel that Ryu has all the tools to win.

Yang vs Ryu: ?

Same as Yun, I feel that this is a beatable character but still dangerous in good hands. Not many hadokes, control space with your normals and safe jumps.

Gouki vs Ryu: 5-5

This is one of my favourite match ups, I feel that is even. Same as Super match up.

C.Viper vs Ryu: 5-5/6-4

Fuckin bitch. Viper players complain that she doesn’t have footsie, but that’s the thing, you can’t play footsie with her. Godlike tools, she has. Instant airborn burn kick, great damage, great ultra, great special moves, mix ups. Deadly character.
You need to execute perfectly against a good Viper. bitch.

Ken vs Ryu: 5-5

even match.

Sagat vs Ryu: 5-5

I play Sagat, his changes are not drastic, but he’s very good, I don’t understand why so many people dropped him in Super (yes, he’s not OP but still good and fun to play). even match, same match up as Super and IV.

Cammy vs Ryu: 5-5

If, what Air said about the strong shoryu is true, this match up is even, imo.

Makoto vs Ryu: ?

Good changes for Makoto in AE, don’t know as of right now. No experience.

Zangief vs Ryu: ?/6-4/7-3

I feel that Ryu can keep him out for the most part, but the problem is when you get to the corner, I don’t know HOW FUCKED UP that is…the only way out is to combo into a roundhouse tatsu.

Boxer vs Ryu: 6-4

Yes, he doesn’t do as much damage as he used to but his tools are one of the best in the game. The anti-shoto.

Thanks for reading, discuss if there’s anything interesting.

No, I tried it on Cody, it knocked him out of it.

Played a few games today: Mostly used Ryu and Ken. But I’m sure Ryu is all you care about in this thread :stuck_out_tongue:

Here is how it went down:

  1. Medium Punch seemed to be a decent random poke
  2. Solar Plexus > cr.HP > SRK Damage is similar to cr.HP > sRK damage in SSFIV
  3. I traded hits with Balrog trying to LP.SRK
  4. I ate Ken’s full ultra trying to Tatsu escape

good
good
traded with what?
good

I called that shit. Capcom is shooting itself in the foot. That what happens when you listen to scrubs.

Cr. Mk nerf was done wrong. If anyhting the frames for mst part should have stayed the same but ryu’s hittable area should have increased like it is or close to it is in AE but the hitbox(area he hits the oppent with) should have stayed the way it in SSF4. That way it was still a good offensive poke(Also this would prevent the potienal issue of combo being loss do to the shorter range) but could be better countered by oppents pokes if space propely. The current hitbox setup for it in AE is horrible form the gif.'s that i have seen.

If they changed the hitbox on his cr.MK doesn’t that mean his Trial 25 isn’t going to work?

 I feel the same way about her.

Gamesplayer: Ryu vs. Makoto, from playing issei’s makoto, is probably a 6-4 to a possible 7-3. Her buffs are too good. It’s hard to zone her out or keep her outta range. She gets one knockdown ur fucked.

Its hard to guess her command throw, and one of her normals beats out cr mk easily. Also once you knock her down it’s hard to do attempt any type of crossup since they beefed up her uppercut which takes good damage.

She’s really hard. It takes patience to beat her.

sounds slightly in her favour but once you learn what beats what, it’s even. its all about your execution, reactions and match up knowledge.

OFF TOPIC

[details=Spoiler]off topic:

for example. I don’t really like 3rd Strike but when I do play the game, I play exclusively Ryu, and even if his tools are not as good as other characters in that game (ie Makoto), you ARE able to beat anybody, if you know how to be offensive and know what beats what. yes, it might force you to play better but at the same time, Street Fighter and fighting games in general are like a “living world”, where the characters in the game have those limited amount of tools, but with those, YOU are the one that should learn how to use them in the right situation and in a creative way. Think outside the box. I’m sure that there’s a move that beats rekkas clean or dhalsim’s cr.fierce, you know what I mean?
? All fixed set patterns are incapable of adaptability or pliability. The truth is outside of all fixed patterns. ? - Bruce Lee
This is the mentality, I think, that leads you to discover unblockables in the game, and you’re like “OH SHIT check this out”, and if you think about it, that was possible day-one, in the arcades, in 2008.
The so called 7-3 match ups are the only issue because its like the other character is made to beat your character, and there’s “nothing” you can do(Superman vs Human).
Like Dhalsim vs Ryu. Yes, you can beat Dhalsim with Ryu, but when you do, the match should be hype. (talking high level play, not casual random online matches).
I’m saying all this because most players here and in the other forum sections, better, most of the community in general, talk about match ups and players in the wrong way, like oh my gawd i have to play boxer or i have to play Daigo. As long as you know what beats boxer tools with the tools you have, there’s nothing you should worry about but be always ready. Daigo is a good player that can do exactly what i just said, execute what beats what. That’s why he’s so good, not because " he’s DAIGO ! ", if that makes any sense to you.[/details]

pretty sad that he got nerfed so hard again… well I guess I will still main him anyways. can’t imagine playing other chars anymore. but it will be kind of sad to lose against players I won against before.

^^^ I felt the same way. Now I have problems against fei long now. I never did in super. Make him burn meter and kept him out.

I still haven’t found a move that beats makoto. Like I figured out how to beat sims limbs which is obv cr mp. I’ll leave evil ryu alone and focus on him for now.

These are some funny posts in retrospect

story of my life :frowning:
gg fei long =.=

I’m on blast.
I did not know that the C.mk nerf would be so bad until I played him in AE. Well, atleast Abel is still good.
