SSF4 AE Ryu

If it’s only +3 frame advantage on hit, then I’ll have to disagree. With SPS you can also tack on a c.hp into whatever. If you can’t at least add a c.mp after the cl.hk, then I’m not sure there’s better potential there except in situations where cl.hk alone is more useful than f+hp. (Like on wake-up.)

Doesn’t AE release in like 6 days? And do we have anyone who posts on the Ryu forums who’s in Japan and could test out some of these changes and report back? Just curious, that would be super awesome.

I live 1.5-2 hours from toronto, and they’re gonna have a bunch of cabs mid december. I’ll hopefully be able to check that out then.

Awesome!!! Looking forward to it. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Gameworks near me said they’re getting it. Dunno when it will get here, though.

Yeah I know sps can. According to the frame data that i am looking at on evenhubs c.hk is +2 on hit. If they increase it to +4 then it can do everything sps can in terms of links. It is noted that a shoryuken can me linked from cl.hk. Currently cl.hk does more damage (+10) when both hits connect compared to sps and cl.hk is not noted to receive a damage nerf. Also if a shoryuken can be linked then cl.mk can be also.

I know nothing is concrete but I want to speculate based on what has been released so far.

I am getting my info on ae changes from here http://shoryuken.com/f315/ssfiv-ae-blog-changes-yoshinori-ono-doesnt-care-about-green-people-255022/

Yeah I think I mentioned that in this same post. If its 4 then that would be beasty. I think you understand where I am trying to get at. Basically if cl.hk is +4 then I would take the sps damage nerf but if they do nerf it I dope its not too much. Down to 110 hopefully.

I’m having trouble picturing the opponent being close enough for a close normal after the pushback from the cl.hk.

@Theli: Same here, but that might still be close enough to get a far st. MP, which is now special cancellable, so at the very least you could get a hado off there.

Actually I am still wondering about the ability to cancel an SRK from far st. MP - as in, how far away is too far away, after which the SRK will whiff a la cr. MK xx SRK from too far. I would imagine it might be about the same.

f.mp is even slower though. Maybe if the cl.hk hits them twice during a focus for the counter-hit. Of course that would be even rarer than ryu’s other 2 hitters against a focus.

Probably.

I really think Ryu will have reasonably more possibilities with his normals now. Overall capcom seems to buffed up everyone’s up close game and nerfing moves that push you away from each other.

We will see

I’m especially liking the s.mp being special cancellable. For me, instead of doing c.jab, c.jab… c.mk for a frame trap, I will do c.jab, c.jab… s.mp because it simply works better and now since it’s special cancellable I will be able to get max damage out of the frame trap.

Ok, I give up. What the hell does that mean?

LMAO, I was cleaning my Laptop and I wiped the keyboard portion of it and I guess I accidentally posted it after hitting random keys.

Noob question: what exactly is a frame trap. Can someone explain this in short to me about ryu?

Frame trap: An attack that, when timed correctly, opens up enough of a gap for the opponent to try to attack but nothing the opponent does will come out fast enough to avoid being stuffed.

Example: c.jab… c.mk Because it is not a true block string, it will leave a gap in between the two moves that will allow your opponent to input a move, but c.jab leaves you at positive frames on block so your next move will most likely have priority over theirs stuffing there move and getting you the counter hit.

s.mp dnt hit crouched chars, with exception of zangief. There shall be somebody else, but mid-low tiered ones only, the big guns arent hit by it while crouching.

Let me to explain it better: the s.MP only hits crouched chars from a range that the c.HP also works. So I think its useless for using while frametraping, because the opp. will be crouched. Unless the opp. stand up after defending the low jabs, or if his/her hitboxes get altered at the initial frames of theirs crouched moves in a way the s.mp hits from a distance the c.HP dont. I dont think it will be usefull for that purpose.

As far as I see now, it will be a tool to poke, and to use against a few chars that cant be hit by SP, c.MP, c.MP, c.MK ; but can be hit by SP, c.MP,c.MP,s.MP. Like Dhalsim.

It can be an option against the ones that cant be hit by neither the SP,c.MP,c.HP xx HK tatsu or the SP, c.MP,c.MP,c.MK xx HK tatsu. You can to use SP,c.MP,s.MP xx HK tatsu. But only for better positioning after the combo once it will deal less damage than the SP, c.HP xx HP shoryuken (328 against 330, both filling almost the same amount of super meter, s.MP’s one filling a few more pixels).

Ryu will play alot like his SF3 counterpart which to me is fine. We will now play him more aggressively like more in your face with combos instead of chunking plasma all day

I see. thanks

You guys completely dodged the example I gave. Go to training mode, put the dummy on crouch and have it block all attacks. Then do c.jab, c.jab, s.mp. I guarantee you that it will hit them. It’s good for frame trapping, I do it all the time now.
