Zone sakura and be careful of her frame traps. She can ex tastu through your fireballs and if you try to link them i.e. mkxxxhado and it becomes predictable, she will go right through. And she has good frame traps so you need to learn and be careful to know when not to press buttons etc.
Also, her crouching fierce is an amazing AA. So, unless its a sure safe jump or you know you’re gonna be ok, jumping is usually ill advised as it is with more characters.
any advice against vega?
My only advice against him is you wanna try and get in and corner him. Also, on the majority of his wall bounces (before he has ultra) you can focus through. Thats’ all I’ve got. You can safe jump him/os him so I would suggest that too.
depending on distance you can c.strong/dp on reaction to his rolls.
s.short/c.forward are good pokes
learn to punish his slide and f+rh, and don’t get predictable with focusing through wall dives. they’ll ex/throw.
if you do focus, make sure you do a full combo. if you punish with stuff like a throw, you are going to lose.
both u1 and u2 can punish your fireballs on reaction at certain distances so watch out for that.
backflip on their wakeup is almost impossible to punish
it’s a pretty grindy matchup
Impossible to punish his backflip? Just walk and throw him. Has tons of recovery.
You kind of have to be a dick in this matchup. Aside from trying to whiff punish a medium or hard attack, you pretty much lose footsies. Really hard to beat or trade with Vega so it can be tough getting to a range where your attacks hit. He has really bad AA, though, and you have really good jump ins. Abuse it. J.hk is really hard for him to deal with. A very good player will adapt, but almost every vega I play crumbles when I start jumping.
I can’t stand Vegas! And the good ones I run into always play a runaway game and LOVE to taunt. For some reason I get taunted by Vega players more than any other character. Anyway I tried that J.hk thing but then they start to jump when I jump and their air attack always beats mine.
you can’t OS a walk-up throw even if you get a good knockdown - so sure you can punish but you can’t really do it on reaction or as a mixup
you really have to be super patient - eventually they’ll jump or do wall dives so just punish those
Empty jump crouch tech?

You don’t OS it. You just jump in at them, and if they backflip, you walk and throw them. You actually do it on reaction.
Daigo got bodied by Sako again. According to the Beastnote blog it is a bad match up for Ryu but the guy who writes that blog is biased towards Daigo and always gives a ton of excuses. How do you guys feel about Ryu-Ibuki I usually lose to Ibuki because once they knock me its just unblockable set ups all day and theres nothing I can do about it. It also seems like her normals always beat out my cr.mk should I use cr.mp instead? And fireballs are useless since she’ll slide under them or do that ex grab.
Ibuki can be difficult if you don’t know how to block the vortex. Its like dhalsims fireball you block depending on where Ibuki is not her knife.
But its easier said than done as it can be hard to tell when the knife makes contact and where Ibuki is on screen as she jumping over your head.
Once you start blocking their vortex they start using overheads combos more. Anyway its probably even 5-5 or 5.5-5 in Ibukis favour.
i hate that matchup. if you don’t get knocked down, you probably won. if you got knocked down, prepare to guess right or you lose.
throwing fireballs is going to be very tough, but you can do it at the right range where they can’t punish you.
you can c.rh on reaction to slide.
you can block overhead on reaction, but can’t punish. if you are good, you can dp it on reaction.
learn how to punish blocked DP properly. focusing or dashing behind are good options but it really depends on how they play.
don’t be afraid to just block a lot.
there are a ton more about the matchup but overall once you get a hang of blocking the vortex it’s not too bad. you learn to block based on the players and their preferences/setups moreso than by visually seeing where ibuki is at the time of jumpins.
It’s good to have the most options possible, too. Learn how to plink focus so you have one more vs. vortex.
Are you guys sure you can jump in on Vega for free? I just played another annoying turtling Vega and he kept hitting me out of the air with standing roundhouse. I was using j.hk idk if that makes a difference.
You can’t just jump in on vega. You need to create a jump in opportunity. Vega cant air to air you once you are on top of him w j.hk. You are vulnerable before you get above him though (the time when you r off the ground to the time you get almost to the peak). Try to jump when you anticipate him throwing a poke. He would be forced to block and cant air-air you. If he is not poking, throw some fb, walk and poke him to corner, when you are close and he hesitate whether you r frame trapping him you can try to jump directly above him (need to be close to prevent jump back air-air) If he hesistate, as the hesitation means he lose the window to air-air. You can also throw a few fb outside his poke range to bait jump also. Once he jump in, use mp srk to knock him down for free jump in. Be careful when throwing fb at this range though. The key to this match up is to knock vega down, jump in and push him to corner for kill.
Yea. S.hk is about his best AA. That’s why jumping in on him is so good. You just need to get closer like Stanzza said. He has nothing that hits over his head. You can’t jump from outside his poking range to free. On some of them you can. You really want to get inside his c.mp range somehow, and then jump. Finding a way to knock him down first is a really good way to do it.
Daigo vs Xian set:
Anyone care to break this set down? What did Daigo do differently in this set compared to the last time when Xian beat him. Why does he purposely put himself in the corner isn’t that what you’re not supposed to do? Did Daigo discover some new tech vs gen or something. I have no idea what is going on whenever I fight gens so any bit of help would be appreciated. I fucking hate gen players to be honest they think they’re so good but the only reason they get wins is because literally no one knows the match up.
IMO, reason is quite straight forward: Gen cr.mp have a lot of priority, os into hands, and is difficult to punish on whiff. Also, Gen can easily focus cancel fb on reaction to punish if ryu throw fb at limb range. That’s y the only good range to throw fb is further, where after Gen focus forward ryu would have recover enough to punish, block, or have enough frame advantage and close enough to cr.mk (you see xian not biting the bait). At this range, gen can’t do much about the fb except jumping, which is what daigo tried to have him do. Only when gen get impatient then ryu could srk to knock him down for mix up game, else you could keep chipping him w fb. Also, I am not so sure about corner being disadvantage to ryu in this matchup. I actually think it is advantages to ryu, as gen have poor normal recovery on long range move, but the high push back is not allowing ryu to punish on block. Being in the corner means that gen can be punish for block normal easier. This is a difficulty 1 matchup for gen, while difficulty 10 for ryu. It’s stupidly easy to beat expert ryu with beginner gen.
