I apologize if i’m kind of confusing.
What he said, you do the input for the buffered special as soon as you press the punch for the demon palm.

The first rule with dealing with Sim is PATIENCE. He is a character who punishes reckless offense.
Now the first order of business against Sim is to figure out what the Sim wants to do and what kind of pokes the Sim player uses. If the Sim is teleport happy congratulations, you just found the easiest Sim to defeat. Bait the teleport, c.HP on reaction to it, and enjoy the free pressure he just gave you. Also Sims who jump forward at you (Usually to j.HP you) are also free because if you Focus and dash forward he lands right in front of you ready for free pressure.
I recommend in this match up when you aren’t able to get in, do everything you can to safely build up meter. Having that one bar for EX Flip is enough to keep Sim players honest and if a situation presents itself it provides a good way in.
Now against more wise Sim players you need to be very cautious. When you are at max range the first thing you need to understand it is rather easy to hit Sim’s arms. c.MP is a good way to collect damage on pokes. Stand just outside of Sim’s max range and try to bait the s.HP and c.MP on reaction. You won’t always hit it, but it is a good way to get the life lead at a distance.
The best way to move forward is with command dive kicks and flip dives. These are rather hard for Sim to AA consistently at a distance and a lot of times Sim will take damage for trying. Sim’s best way to combat this is to j.MP, but if he does this and doesn’t connect with it you have a quick and easy way in so there is some risk on Sim’s part. Now when I say flip dive kicks I do not mean dive kicking with the intent of hitting Sim. Sim’s point blank AA will hit you out of this. Rather use LK flip > Dive kick to gain some space. Don’t be predictable with this, while Sim has a hard time reacting to it he does have ways of beating it if he knows it is coming. Also once Sim has U1 or Super be really careful since Sim can AA with both.
There are certain situations where you can quickly get in if the Sim player makes a mistake. The first of which is if he is getting predictable with his pokes you can LP. SRK. This option is risky so only do it if you have a really good read on the Sim player. The second situation is if Sim whiffs an air poke. Because Sim is so floaty it takes him a long time to recover from a whiffed air attack and this is a time you can take advantage of this and gain a lot of ground you couldn’t before. Lastly the most common way to get a fast in is in reaction to a Yoga fire. If you are close enough or have EX stocked you can flip punish a yoga fire. Of course don’t abuse any of these. These are situational and if you try to use them too much you will eat damage.
In this match up your fireball usage needs to be under control. This doesn’t mean don’t throw fireballs, but rather understand when you can throw fireballs. The first situation is when you see Sim Yoga fire. This means the instant you see Sim use his Yoga fire that is when you throw a fireball. Throwing one after Sim recovers is a bad idea. Air fireballs can also be used if it is done with care. Make sure to be outside of Sim’s arm range if you are going to throw them because Sim will trade damage all day long.
Ultimately the main thing to watch for are either mistakes by Sim, anything you can predict, or any time you can get either a soft or hard knockdown (EX Fireballs work great to this extent). Other wise just work your way in slowly and gain as much ground as you can. You want to slowly push Sim without taking large amounts of damage.
The main key with this match up is not to take unnecessary damage. Make sure when you are moving forward to expect a barrage of arms and make sure to block! When you lose offensive pressure be careful to not get overly aggressive because you will take damage for that. If you ever lose patience you will start losing the match.
Okay I’ve been testing some things against Yun lunge punches. Here’s what I’ve found.
*All of them can be demoned ON REACTION from longish range if you do the standard MK AA demon. I.e. buffer your demon into a MK. The lunge punches are airborne towards the end of their trajectory and the MK makes Akuma’s hitbox sink below the hitbox of the lunge. This technique catches all lunges, including the very fast recovery EX lunge. This is because the demon start up is over before the end of the EX lunge animation.
*At close range EX, HP and MP lunges can be reaction demoned in the above way. I can’t do it on LP lunge, but maybe my reactions are slow. LP beats LP lunge clean, but I can’t even get that out on reaction. LP also beats MP lunge at close range, clean. Probably works on HP and EX too.
Not sure if this has been posted before, but I just noticed today that you can guarantee a sweep on Fuerte using cl.forward xx tatsu no matter how close you are. so you can do stuff like cr.jab, cl.forward xx tatsu, sweep where you’d normally do cr.jab, cl.fierce bnb. I know that doing a longer combo ending in cr.strong xx tatsu, sweep on Fuerte has been known for a long time, but using cl.forward is new info to me.
Did you also know without ultra you can use c.MK to go under Yun’s dash punches and punish them with a c.LP > s.HP > BnB?
Very interesting, thanks for this info.
Thanks for that advice, I took it on board and I’m seeing immediate results. I think my problem was I was rushing too much and losing about 75% health before I even got in and that was my downfall. I’ve also tried Focus Attacking a bit but I dunno, sometimes I can’t dash out of it even though I’m mashing dash, it’s kinda weird and I think I might have to be in the lab to find this stuff out. I don’t understand why I have never Focus Attacked and I really need to work it into my game.
Edit: *** stupid paragraph thanks to extremely high sodium chloride levels.
watch tokido vs ymcmochi where tokido make a quick work against dhalsim. but honestly, my history with dhalsim has been pretty even. lost a few to sim during tourney and won a few as well. it comes down to patience and accuracy.
akuma cannot fuck up else you’ll get irritated by his patience.
matchup reference:
True, but I think also what you need to realise is that I am playing arguably the best Sim in the UK, this guy is no joke. His spacing and pokes and timing on everything is just purely immaculate. Thanks for that anyway, I’ll take a look into it. I remember watching CEO I think it was and Tokido going to town on Arturo, so the matchup is definitely winnable once you’re in, it’s just getting in that’s so freaking hard!
Heh Sims hate Akuma because it is one of Sim’s worst match ups. Akuma has the easiest time getting in and staying in against Sim.
character wise
akuma> sim
however
akuma+player(insert your name here) < sim+player(insert that dhalsim player name here)
the only exclusion is perhaps tokido/infiltration lately. but once you control a better akuma sim’s no trouble.
I have a few matches saved but I don’t really have any decent recording device apart from my laptop webcam (lol?) so I’ll see if there’s anyone on my FL with a PVR to record them for me. I really need some critique on these matches. I’ve gone close to 150-160 games now and I’ve only had about 2 wins, that is no joke. I just can’t beat this guy! :’(
lol please let me use this quote for future trolls PS, akuma owns sim, in all versions of SF4
Use that quote to your hearts content. Put it on billboards around America if you want, maybe even buy an advertising spot at the next Superbowl. That quote sounds stupid when I read it back anyway, I was mad salty, allow it.
Anyhow, I was reading back LoyalSol’s post and a lot of that is some very good info. I kind of scrapped my whole gameplan and went back to taking babysteps, playing like a newbie and just taking things slowly. I find that the DF palm and ultra if they throw a limb works quite nicely as Sim’s limbs take quite a while to recover and I did take a good chunk of damage from Sim when I landed this. His jump back fierce overhead is getting me everytime still however I am trying to train myself to stand block and U1 on reaction. But I think with practice I’ll defo get this matchup in the bag. I think it’s just a major lack of matchup knowledge, no-one here in the UK really plays Sim so this has taken me by surprise really. Thanks for your advice guys anyway, this is the only matchup that’s giving me real troubles but with a bit of practice I’ll get there
Need help with ibuki. I seriously have 0 matchup experience against her. Don’t know wtf to do when im in her blockstrings and what i can do to punish. When in the corner im basically her bitch and cant press any buttons or teleport so…?
I keep telling people be glad we aren’t Ryu. Now there is someone who has historically had a miserable time with Sim. We have dive kicks, demon flips, and good walking speed to get in on Sim.
No, seriously: is it REALLY possible to safe jump Yun? How f* hard is that?
Other than that, I checked and it`s really possible to crouch under lunges with c.mk but while I was playing i noticed that focusing on that was keeping my game off so I think I’ll rely on the U2 frame trap strategy for now.
Yooooo, can someone help me with the Chun Li matchup?
Like, I can bait out things pretty easily and punish accordingly, but sometimes, I dunno, it just seems like I don’t really know what to do, matchup-wise. 'Course I know not throw out fireballs when she has U1 loaded, and trying not to go air-to-air with her.
Tips anyone? ._.
EDIT: Oh, and the fucking C.Viper matchup too. Jesus Christ, she is a stupid fucking character. I could easily rant on how stupid she is.
Hi serin.
against chun you can really just vortex her to death, getting the KD might be a little rough, just like viper. Once you do, you’ll most likely put a huge dent in their health. Make sure your safe jumps are point, and always follow them with os sweeps (especially against chunny-baby, against her you have to delay the os sweep)
Don’t let the chun get away with any hazanshu bullshit, try to focus them on reaction and dash forward punish. Also don’t be afraid to run away and make her play sloppy. After a sweep you should be able to do a late df kick that will stuff ex sb, it resets her though, no combo. Just training mode it up to get the timing down.
Viper is kinda rough imo, it’s whoever gets their offense going first I guess… we can really fuck her up on wake up, once again it’s just getting that KD that might suck. Safe jump delayed os sweep beats all of her reversals except for ex seismo feint. I think we can also delay df kick that will beat everything except trade with ex flame? (correct me if i’m wrong plz, too lazy to go check atm)
It is one of those tools that you use if you know it is coming. Don’t obsess about it however. That is a general rule with anything. It is easy to get tunnel vision in a match looking for something and completely miss what is coming.
