As for Bahrain, what made you decide to go to that part of the world?
As a Bahrainy (or Bahrainie >.>) myself, All I can say that we have a fourm in which only 8 or 9 people participate, arranging some online tournies and perhaps sooner than later will begin to have some offline ones. The competitions is not of high-level as in other countries.
Kuwait has better competition than Bahrain.
Well, it’s actually 50/50, underway / ashore. It’s just that taking leave is pretty hard since we have so many workups to do in our region once we pull back in.
Bahrain was kind of just how the dice rolled. With my setup, my rotation date was April '11 and my freedom day is April '12… so I had to go someplace for exactly a year if I didn’t want to re-enlist. My only options were to stay on the ship, be essentially a foot soldier in Derkastan, or go to Bahrain. Don’t get me wrong, I love Japan, I just hate how much of a double-edged sword this is. When I went to that IA ranbat, people were nicknaming me “The Real World Warrior” which was cool but couldn’t be further from the truth. When I go to foreign countries hoping to play different communities, it never really works out. I could keep going, but maybe I’ll make a blog about all of this stuff instead.
Besides, I’ve heard Bahrain is essentially the Las Vegas of the middle east, so it’s something to be excited about. Plus, I get paid like crazy. Get dat fight money.
And yes, I want to live in socal for the rest of my life, haha. I’ve been there 3 times so far and it’s awesome.

good guile and all…but did he just do udk, flash, fadc, ultra to be flashy? or does it do more damage than naked ultra in that situation? i doubt it. stuff like that looks great. but he would have had two bars for the next round (that he ended up losing).
I’m going to upload some of SolidNashNYC’s matches later on tonight. Apparently, he won the tournament that we held over the weekend and went 2-0 all the way through with Guile.
straight ultra is the way. save the meter, but how can you combo udk to flash? maybe you mean ghk, fk, fadc, ultra. I guess it was just to look great like you said. This reminds me of a hate mail I got from a player. “for all those points you have, you are nothing special” I guess he wanted to see me do trial 23 and 24 on each round respectively.

Yazu, Machi, Daigo (mains Ryu though), Lamerboi, ACE E I R IN, Dagger_g, Yoshiwo just to name a few. Fujisawa is another to look at, but I do find that he can be reckless sometimes.

Hey guys, I’m new to Guile, so I’m just throwing out a vid for you guys to critique:

Be as nice or as harsh as you want, I don’t care, as long as you explain what I did wrong, and what I should have done.
I know I win this match, and I apologize for the TERRIBLE quality of the vid and low sound, but it’s still viewable and just want some general tips on how I can improve my game.
Few things to note:
- I hate the Blanka matchup as Guile. Luckily this guy wasn’t an uber Blanka player.
- Am I throwing out too many booms when Blanka has ex meter?
- How to punish blocked horizontal ball if I don’t have ex meter? Can you punish ball with U2?
- I pretty much don’t like going toe to toe with Blanka and you can see me trying to get out of corners as soon as I can. My Guile footsies aren’t great and need tips.
- I don’t know what to do when Blanka goes hop or jump crossup crazy on me. You can see my reactions for cr.hp are really slow and only after a few jumps do I finally press the hp button to anti air. But Blanka’s jumps and hops are so fast, I react too slowly. What should I be doing here? Just dash away?
- Any other general tips appreciated.

I cant watch the video right now, but I will try to answer your questions.
Throwing sonic boom when Blanka has EX meter is not as threatening as with other fireball characters, because Guile has godlike recovery, and he has to pretty much guess, in which he guessed wrong, eats EX sonic boom. Its in your favor, just dont get predictable.
Guile has Neutral standing light kick which counters Blanka slide and some of his buttons, also you can use Backward medium kick to try to have some space and reset the match. Your main pokes to stop blanka from walking forward is St.Hp and Cr.mk, and Forward Heavy punch on some occasions (not really recommended). This is some basic footsie options vs Blanka.
Anti airing blanka is extremel tricky and difficult, sometimes just dashing forward is a good option from times to times (dont use it right away, save it when he least expecting you to use it. Cr.Hp is not really good vs cross ups, especially blanka cross ups and never use it when you are knocked down. To be honest your only cross up option is to use super. IF you are standing and he jumps to cross up you, you can neutral jump air throw and proceed with your zoning game.
Against blanka, your damage is counter pokes, TONS of Sonic boom damage and EX sonic boom punishes on blanka horizental ball, so it will be very long fight.
Hint: If you can react to blanka horizental ball, you can sonic hurricane him on reaction, preferably outside half screen range. What is awesome about this is that it would hit him even if he uses EX version of Horizental ball, although you must eat the damage first. Good trade :D.
My approach to Blanka is pretty different from my_name_is_better:
- DON’T GET KNOCKED DOWN.
- Learn the gimmicks (play against good Blankas as much as you can / watch Blanka videos and see the usual tricks)
- Only SB out of slide range and when it’s safe.
- Footsies all day.
- Get free chip damage with U2. If you don’t know when you can get free chip damage, you need to think about the match up and Blanka’s options. Also, spacing is really important when going for the U2 chip. A step forward or back is the difference between free chip and setting yourself up for an up-ball / Ultra to your face.
