EmblemLord’s Sagat Vs Guile Matchup Series

Some casual matches I had today vs a friend who got a nice Gouken:

I am not really sure about this match up,but it seems like it often ends up in a fireball battle and when you try to jump in,he is doing his counter.I haven’t played many Gouken players online though since the release of SSF4.

From my experience, I approach Gouken with a similar mindset as Boxer (but Gouken is much easier for me). He has to come to you and he has nothing that gets him in is safe against Guile. Obvious things to watch out for when you SB him, even full screen, are ex-demonflip-throw, EX and normal horizontal SRK move (name escapes me). Everything else means he has to walk to you…and let’s be honest, you can’t walk at Guile without losing good chunks of your bar.

Another thing is staying out of the corner. If a good Gouken puts you in a corner, your chance for survival decreases dramatically as a simple poke can lead into an almost infinite amount of combo choices, resets, etc.

Third, you can’t jump in on a good Gouken. Not possible if he has any brains. If you try to cross him up on wake-up, he can parry you or grab into Ultra if you do it empty. Both hurt like hell and if he guesses wrong, you can’t take that much damage off of him to begin with so he’s still on solid ground. If you try to jump-in outside of wake-up, his diagonal balls will stop you every time as well as his normal AA’s…or he can again parry or throw into Ultra.
You can however neutral-jump fierce him once or twice to see how he responds to it (ala Gief)

In other words, it’s a slow game. Play it mid screen, don’t be predictable with your booms and remember that once he leaves the ground, Guiles airthrow beats all of his options except ex air huricane kick.

Same as with Boxer, just be patient.

Thank you very much for the tips.@ExtraDas

Blah I suck. What to do against Adon???

Use Balrog :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW, you made that Boxer look free as hell. Was a pleasure to watch.

Being thrashed by Momochi’s Akuma. Match starts at 7:30. His crossup tatsu is really very hard to block as he executes it later than most other Shotos. The hardest to block from any Akuma I’ve ever played.

Choco’s crossup ball is hard to block and she really has very good reactions when it comes to sliding SBs. She can on slide underneath SBs on reaction and hit you at distances which most other Blanka players’ slide would get blocked. I accidentally pressed the start button on the Madcatz TE and lost focus for the rest of the match cos I felt bad about it. The start button was too near to the directional stick and I’m used to Hori sticks as well.

well i personally think you played it well because you forced him to change his ways of spamming that kick. and that rog player? 0_o

This is the tournament match with Choco. She kicked me out of the tournament cos I did something stupid and wanted to finish her off by trying to dash and throw her at the end following a badly timed boom. I would have lost earlier as she missed her ultra after a blocked slide towards the end.

only the first match is me with guile.

Pretty bold jumping in on Ryu like you did, but I guess if he’s just that crap…

The drawback of living in NYC (and I imagine, parts of Cali as well) is that you can’t jump at Ryu…I’ve yet to play a bad AA Ryu at a tourney here and even online, the good ones tend to be really good.

Well player Guile though.

Here’s a video of Daigo using Guile vs Gamerbee from a couple of months ago.

^ daigo has a bad ass guile

Oh snap, someone should post this shit to dailymotion. =D

I have to agree. I’ve yet to play anyone offline in NYC (offline or online) that is a bad AA Ryu. It’s like they have their AA’s signed/sealed/delivered. What sucks the most is the fact that they pin it to AA meaty every single time. Jump in is not an option…ever.
