SSF4 AE 2012 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (New)

Can we add some specific uses of peculiar Crane normals like cr.mk or cr.hp for the different match-ups? I always like using them?

i just find out u can ultra seth sonic with mantis u1 ok u buff ultra when u c the fireball animation ultra mantis need good timing when firball travel nearly halfway ultra if u do it to early u got hit and to late i think it work bc when gen travel across the screen the animation when his go the lowest point the ground to dogde it it not very hard to do tho

I tried the crane cr.lk advice of 武俠派 and The_Theoretical today against a 17k Fei Long.

Ok so about Cammy. What the hell do i do against a really good one (like tourney level good)? I really hate how good Cammy is, but i feel that there’s stuff about the Gen-Cammy that i don’t know that makes me feel more uncomfortable than with my earlier mains.

  1. You absolutely cannot anti-air her without taking a massive risk each time. Every time she jumps it’s basically a 50-50 unless you let her get in. Her j.hk reaches extremely far, and while you can anti-air it with cr.hp it will get beat horribly by divekick.
  2. She has surprisingly long reach on her normals. Her cr.mk particularly, while Gen has the better footsies it is scary to try and play footsies with her because if she jumps you’re in a whole lot of trouble.
  3. The hitbox on her DP is really good, i find that i have alot more trouble crossing her up without being autocorrected than i do with for example Ryu.

So to sum it up the matchup basically feels like this for me: Cammy jumps in for free, playing footsies with her is so scary because of that. Once she is in Gen is pretty much f***ed unless she makes a mistake or you get a lucky ex Gekiro in. I’ve tried to use mantis st.hp to beat divekicks but due to the startup i find that it doesn’t work as well as i want it too.

Cammy has awful recovery on most special moves and normals… and she has no overhead (unless she jumps and does instant dive kick) so I usually take advantage of that. Practice with setups to jump on her… I usually abuse of cr.mp-hands in this match-up but I guess the Cammy players I usually play against are not that good…

Yeah the tip i usually get is to just hold down-back. But while that protects me from getting blown up by her frametraps i’m still at a massive disadvantage and still have to get out sometime without taking massive risks.

Does anyone have experience in dealing with Ibuki? I’ve been matched up a few times against an Ibuki player whom so far I have never once beaten. It’s like rubbing salt on my wounds 'cause I never really liked that character in the first place, not because I think she’s cheap or over-powered but I just don’t like her appearance and the way she talks. Anyway, it seems like everytime she mashes something it always beats my normals, amogst other problems I’m facing. Any help here?

Yeah Ibuki is a pain in the nuts for alot of characters, Whenever I play Ibuki I have some things to keep in mind

  1. Never get knocked down, so I look out for the ninja slide and jumpins.
  2. Learn the position of her hitbox of her kunai throws hitbox to help you block
  3. Once you get Ultra, use it only when she tries her knife throw mixup, because the ultra makes her drop down and get hit
  4. do all you can to sweep her, she has no real wake up options
  5. Use unblockable on her ass in corers and use the legion of cross up oga available against her.

Do this and you should be ok

One thing I can pick out is that maybe I should forget about super and just EX Shashasha all her jump ins. Seem to work nicely in your video, but that guy I faced had like 3800PP, probably won’t be as easy it it seems.

It’s dropped below what I can salvage from the battle log now. I thought I would ask here because it’s more of a general issue in dealing with Ibuki than just that one battle, but since you mentioned it, I’ll remember to record it the next time I meet with him. That guy is pretty good, I can barely throw out a normal without getting counter-hit or some other annoying crap.

Did you already play that much matches after that Ibuki
so there’s no replay left in the replay channel?

just a single piece of advice: you should do your best to lose the habit of doing crane j.mk - cr.lk. So punishable on block… at least do st.lp to hit confirm before the lk. And when you manage to land the cr.lk, switch to mantis and hit with cr.hp (for more damage) or cr.hk (for the knockdown).

Yeah, I tend to play a lot on weekends, some people are just pretty persistent, but they usually leave after 1 win lol. I play 5 matches with them and earn 40PP or so, then they simply vanish after 1 win and I lose twice that amount. It’s insane I tell you.

Anyway, thanks for the video Bene, I appreciate any help you can provide. But the Ibuki I faced was definitely on a higher level, this one just couldn’t block your cross-ups at all. Would like a bit of advice in return? You put out too much unsafe moves from what I can see. That cross-up crane.MK into couching.LK is really unsafe if they block it. You’re playing with a pad right? I’ve never played with a pad before, is it hard to stance change and try for a Mantis combo after cross-up MK?

and continue with the mantis sweep. So thanks for that
and even more for the hit confirm advice. Players already
punished me a lot after blocking that and I didn’t manage
to get my head around that. :slight_smile:
