I was already having some fun with this in the STHD thread, and figured a nice template for people to make their own custom/fake winquotes could provide some amusement.
It’s in .PSD format. Included are regular and loss portraits for each character (default palette only). By default, the regular is on the P1 side, loss is on the P2 side. Just flip and move them if you want P2 to be the winner.
The entire font used for the winquotes is included. It’s a grid of 16x16 pixel tiles. I’ve left the backdrop for the fontset black, because I find that’s helpful for arranging and aligning the letters you’ve cut and pasted. You’ll need to erase the black for the final product, of course.
I’m going to try and make an actual font set out of the letters if I can to make it a bit easier. Do you do requests? lol For a while I’ve wanted the the font for the blue ‘world warrior’ txt on WW’s title screen.
thanks again, I’m going to have some fun with this
For things like logos, a lot of times an entire character set isn’t used, just what’s needed for the logo. But I’ll check and see.
EDIT: Yeah, only the graphics for the logo itself are there, not an entire character set. The letters aren’t even on individual tiles. Interestingly enough, the graphics in the tileset read “The World Warrier”. There must be a corrected version of the last couple tiles in there somewhere, but I haven’t found them yet.
ahh, never mind, thanks anyway felineki. So have you found any unused stuff inside any SF games? I remember that SSF2Z title screen you posted a while back…
As you can see, the Z is “cut” so that it fits perfectly around the logo like that, so that’s obviously what it was for.
Other unused graphics in ST include full animations loops for each “level” of Ryu’s/Akuma’s Hadouken (in game, it “degrades” as it travels away from him, before the animation even has a chance to play through completely), an additional frame for the impact effect of that same type of Hadouken, a complete Hadouken-throwing animation for Akuma (in game he just does the “bowlegged” stance then skips straight to the last frame of the normal Hadouken -throwing animation), an extra startup frame for his s.HK (kinda like in Ken’s HCF funky kick), a “The Ultimate Championship” subtitle to replace the “Grand Master Challenge” one (didn’t this get used in one of the console ports?), and lots of alternate win icons (you can see those in the above pic, mabe I’ll try to do rips of them with a better palette sometime).
that sounds awesome felineki, is it possible to rip some of those frame of animation out? It’d be awesome to actually put them together and see how it would have looked.
also, with regards to the ultimste championship thing.
Possibly. I’m not sure if some of the unused frames were actually put into the animation data, but given that I’ve recently found a good technique on scrolling through an entire character’s animation set using ArtMoney, it shouldn’t be hard to check. And even if they aren’t, I can still take the raw tiles, arrange them, and try to put together a mockup of what the animation might have looked like.
As for the alternate win icons, I tried to find a palette in the game data that fits them, but so far can’t seem to find one. So I might have to end up coloring them myself.
Heh, Guile’s tone on that “BiiiisoooOOOOON!!!” makes me half expect to hear him say “YOOOOOUUU’RRE FIRED!” next. Like Mr. Spacely or something.
