SSF2T HD Remix Tournament - Monday July 27th 2009

Hah, too bad my playing does not rock. Those guys in the top 4 are A flight for sure.

No prob, good for the community to get together and have events like this. I’m figuring out what’s manageable for a one-night tourney. I think between 13-16 players is ideal.

With a couple tournament results, I can develop a reasonable seeding each time assuming players carry over.

New players can be wildcards, but that’s what makes it exciting because I can be totally wrong about someone. Recent experience with me also makes a difference.

For example, I seeded SlipHole79 a little low because I hadn’t played him in a while. He definitely stood out last night. I’d placed LOOSECHANGE high because I played him recently and felt he deserved a higher seed.

Friday Tourney’s would be cool.

I like the best of 5 rounds and double elim, but that loser’s bracket did take a little long. PSN was being a pain towards the end though, at least for me, and was having issues connecting to matches.

Here were the vids I was able to get last night. I wish I could have gotten the Finals and Semi’s though.

Eh? I thought best of 3 was 2 out 3 rounds?

Yeah, it was. Those guys are rebels.

I could see 5-rounds to start with and in the winner’s bracket. The loser’s bracket it would have to be 3-rounds or it would really take forever. Playing longer matches DOES impact other players because they will have to wait longer for matches to finish.

The problem with multiple match formats is that people will inevitably use the wrong format. Due to the online nature, I think simpler is better, so I choose the EVO-style and people still didn’t always get it right.

Bottom line - I can’t police the matches, so it up to the players to know what is expected (match format, character selection, etc) and follow that. If they use a non-standard format and agree on the match result that’s all I can go by. It’s like golf in that respect.

Titan for president.

No its cool, it just made me think I did it wrong.

ggs to Rice247 (Our games were so close, I screamed), SakamotoRyuu (This guy surprised me and nearly killed my nerve), djreign78 (Nice playing you, bro, ggs). edit: I’m totally sorry, ggs to LOOSECHANGE (You gave me a hard time as usual, too!)

Thank you again, Titan, for holding the tourney and the mIRC chat was a lot of fun, too.

You guys don’t have to have it on a Monday next time. My wife is probably right, you guys are tired after getting home from work, huh, while I Joose my gills all sorts of colors? It’s no different than having it on a Friday, in my opinion.

i tried a new thing i threw everything i had lol reno killed me in the begginging then i played merkilo he was a bit of a run and then i play sliphole in case you guys didnt know he is my uncle :arazz: and he had to eliminate me of course it was a good game non the less. i understand i was placed low cuz u dont know me titan but sliphole gnx str8 and djmssif(if you know him) blueblood will tell u i aint bad:wink: but anyways congrats dbo.! i hope to play you some time well thanks again titan hope to see you making another one soon ill be waiting.!

Titan, I wasn’t in the tourney last night, but I’m curious as to what seed you would have given me

yeah they were dbostick!! LOL i was screaming at the screen too. can’t believe I choked last very last round.

I wish I had gotten our earlier matches though. If you watch that vid I posted, you see me hit the ps button to send you a message after the 4th round…I thought you had killed me already lol

If I couldn’t play, I still had to tune in somehow!

Rice, I’m definitely taking notes on your Cammy lol

^lol

I used the players who made it to the bracket in last week’s tournament as the top seeds, with one exception:

  1. dbostick (placed 1st)
  2. RenoMD (placed 2nd)
  3. Str8Crazy78 (9-0 in pool D, lost in 2nd round of bracket)
  4. ktm0066 (5-3 in pool C, lost in 1st round of bracket)
  5. LOOSECHANGE (wildcard seed, but I knew he’d rock)
  6. kingj97 (7-1 in pool B, lost in 1st round of bracket)
  7. flako2nd (6-2 in pool B, lost in 1st round of bracket)

Despite their better records, I put ktm0066 ahead of kingj97 and flako2nd because ktm0066 placed well in eltwopee’s tournament on June 25.

In pool C, ktm0066 had to fend off RenoMD and sait0uski. In pool D, Str8crazy87 dominated everyone. Pool B was missing Halfro, so I thought it was a little light and both who advanced lost in the first round. To me that created a little gap for LOOSECHANGE.

You (SRK_BOXER) were 4-5 in pool D and lost in the 2nd round of the bracket. I would have put you at #4 due to a better finish in the bracket than ktm0066. The rest would have been arranged the same.

The logic for the rest of the seeds varies, but I did them in groups.

For seeds from 8-11, I looked at eltwopee’s tournament for guidance. A better overall finish, or a win in a head-to-head match, meant a better seed.

The next chunk from 12-15 were people I knew, and I relied on my experience vs. that particular player. SlipHole79 obviously should have been higher, but its unlikely I would have put him any higher than #8 (or #12 for that matter). That I played LOOSECHANGE recently (and he was killing us all) was a factor in placing him highly. Coth_X was negatively impacted by a no show last week. Notice I’m near the bottom at 16, and that’s pretty accurate.

I had not played anyone in the last group from 17-21. I knew Sakamoto from the prior tournament, so I put him at the top of that group. Turns out I got to play him and he’s could have easily been higher.

It’s a binary choice, I can’t make two players equal - one has to be higher and one has to be lower. Aside from my somewhat arbitrary grouping, I think I did well with the information I had available.

I deserved it, I chose my stomach and my legs over HDR.

That won’t happen again!

thanks titan for all the complements. i appreciate it. Im happy to be even in the top 4. I never thought i would make it to the quarters with guys like st8, loose, reigne, haduken69 and reno in it. I dont think you should change a thing. the losers bracket made the whole tournament. it gives wildcards and good players who had one bad game or ran into someone too good a second chance. plus there were so many GOOD matches that never would of happend. Like all mine. the more players the better dont change a thing.
