Thanks to everyone who participated and stuck it out through the pool play experiment. We had a few no shows unfortunately, but I think that worked out OK.
Lessons Learned
I decided I better not divide my attention by playing, so I sat out. The pools that were short players just had to play more matches and I think that was reasonable. The 3 player room almost came to a 3-way tie after 4 games apiece.
It was hard to keep up with the results, and I forgot that you can be in only 3 chat rooms at once. IRC probably is a better choice with as many players and it is much easier to navigate than text chat.
The final bracket of 8 moved along well. I would have liked for that to be double elimination, but the tourney was long enough already. The whole thing lasted about 1:45, with the first hour for pool play. The bracket would have went quicker, but we had some connection problems for both semifinal matches (and a little miscommunication).
One major problem with people just joining at the last minute is that they probably did not read the tournament overview and rules. That meant a lot more work for me to explain things.
Next Tournament
Tentative date is Monday August 17 @ 11/10/9/8. It will be double elimination, EVO-style. That is what everyone is familiar with and doesn’t require so much explaining to those who have not read the rules. I think the Monday night time was OK, except that it meant dbostick had a chance to win! :lol:

Yeah, that’s not so bad for putting the clips together. I’ve got some cropping issues since my camera is 4x3 and the television is 16x9. I know the graphics guy at work, so maybe he could help me out. Now if I just brought the five 80MB AVI files…

I haven’t used this in awhile so I don’t know how clunky the interface is at this point, but I used VirtualDub when on Windows back in the day. Free and very memory-efficient
If you have a Mac, you probably wouldn’t be asking us =p
Heh, after checking out his .sig links, I will now see the handle ‘dbostick’ entirely differently. I kept thinking ‘dee be oh stick’. I work with SQL Server, where ‘dbo’ means ‘database owner’. Now I see it as ‘dee boss tick’, or ‘dee bo’ for short.
Heheh, yeah, it’s supposed to be pronounced as “Dee Boss Dick.” As you saw, my name is Danny Bostick, so I just combined the two. :china:
It was never “Dee Bo” or “Dee Bo Stick” like most people thought. Now, when you put dbo, you gotta say, “Dee Baw!” lol
So the first syllable is like in ‘Boston’.
Are you trying to crop the vid or stretch it out to 16x9??
