Hey, did you guys see any SWAG in that video?
choke
I wonder why you never seem to see C. Viper players using her standing overhead. I guess it’s not that useful.
i don’t think you can combo off it, at least i’ve never seen it done nor been able to do it myself.
it chains into her launcher and she can combo into h thunder knuckle
I know you can combo off of it, which is why it made me wonder why you don’t really see it much. It was just brought to mind by watching Marlin hit Phoenix with the Burning Kick overhead. You don’t see him use that move all that much outside of combos, and I can’t remember the last time I saw him use the standing overhead.
ahh, i doubt i ever tried s.M, S. thanks for the heads up!
To maximize damage and safety off the standing overhead you need to learn to cancel into H thunder knuckle and feint cancel that into stair kick loop from what I’ve seen. The cancelling into S stuff is kinda wonky for me especially since I don’t like getting that blocked.
You can cancel the first hit of her st.S though. So if you don’t like the step-kick loop you can still get full combos off it with st.S (one hit), M TK, feint, st.M, st.H, Seismo into whatever.
It is also 6 or 7 frames faster than H Burn Kick iirc so it is nice to mix it in.
Sad seeing someone as skilled as Champ losing to that bullshit.
>MarlinPie
>Bullshit
Pick one.
Both these players are fuckin top of the top level in this game. I wanted to see some good play, not a bunch of bullshit. Trust me man, Marlinpie is more than just BS. That dude has got some solid skills all around. This was just a lame combo video.
The fact that it was a LIVE ACTION combo video is what makes it so damn awesome; the type of shit you’d otherwise only see in the training mode against a neutral CPU. Especially epic given that it was the finisher of grand finals. Really, how was that not “good play?” That was spectacular play.
The problem with vipers f+m overhead is that if it get’s pushblocked, you’re done. For the s followup you basically can’t wait and hitconfirm to chain into it, so chances that you will whiff it if the opponent pushblocks are high. Feintcanceling an h tk on reaction to a whiff is pretty hard too. Besides that, viper has way batter options at the range f+m is supposed to hit, namely j. airdash straight down L. Not only is it way safer on block (or even positive, if the opponent pushblocks), but it’s also a true high/low if you just whiff the j.L and go straight into a low attack. Also - like seen in the above set - you can get a double overhead out of it by doing a superjump (!) airdashdown L and canceling into L bk that hit’s even if the opponent pushblocks, because bk has so much range. That doesn’t work from f+m.
So in short, the reason nobody uses it is not that it’s actually bad (in fact a lot of the cast would wish to habe that move ^^), but it’s the fact that Maya has tons of other overhead options that are safer, easier to utilize and harder to react to.
The only time I ever see Marlin go for the overhead is when hes trying to catch forward tech rolls, don’t think i’ve ever seen anyone get hit by it though, although I have seen people get scraped by Dooms ADB j.M overheads when trying to catch the tech rolls.
I thought this game was the battle of whose bullshit is more bullshit?
and who can wield bullshit better?
and survival of the most bullshit?
^ this.
It’s all about who’s got the best tech and is able to carry it over into a match. This isn’t street fighter where you can turn a set by adapting to the others playstyle. You either already know the others BS and have counters for it, or you don’t. Champ obviously didn’t, cause he got guardbroken all day on incoming/snap oki and did the same mistakes in the exact same situations over and over again.
Isn’t that what Marvel was all about anyway?
exactly. but if you read dark radiance’s post, it doesn’t sound like that.
