SRK wiki edits- update log

Pretty sure Renegade will handle the uploading stuff for CvS2, but it’s good to see RSX is still around. He doesn’t post on SRK much from what I’ve seen.

No Update Update:

So as anybody who follows along at home knows, the fgc is generally run on erratic volunteer labor by whomever has time or energy at that point in time. The wiki in particular was being updated every couple years by FMJaguar out of the kindness of his heart. When the wiki crashed several years ago, it moved servers and the update process was never reestablished.

I’ve figured out who owns the server these days and will reach out to them to figure out the correct next steps here.

I mean, I can, but I’ve recently come to the conclusion the CvS2 SRK wiki is kinda a lost cause and have begun the process to host one at Mizuumi. More templates, better format, more admins, etc.

Like, i’ve spent a lot trying to do the SRK one, but I’m a content guy and am ass at formatting.

What formatting problems are you having, exactly? Either me or Jotamide might be able to help.

I think one thing that would really help the site is being able to bulk upload images, so I don’t have to manually upload ~30+ images every time I’m doing hitboxes.

Also @Preppy, could we revert the image for EX moves to the old one? This is the one I mean. I tried reverting it but it seems to be locked (possibly by Chen). Not sure why the new version is preferable, as it’s just a blue rectangle that means nothing for most games.

Hm. That’s actually bugged, it appears:

Could not read or write file “mwstore://local-backend/local-public/9/9e/Ex.png” due to insufficient permissions or missing directories/containers.
Could not store file “/tmp/phpOviDAA” at “mwstore://local-backend/local-public/9/9e/Ex.png”.

Think this needs to be part of the server update… :\

Just really basic stuff I have problems with. Like I tried to incorporate the more esoteric charts/data on the main page into hideable/expandable charts, and it just kept coming out wrong. http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Capcom_vs_SNK_2

I did the pages for Vice and Iori with next to no formatting, and I guess it came out ok:
http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Vice_(CvS2)
http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Iori_(CvS2)

But when I tried to make a template work for a character (i tried using the SF4 template for Chun), I couldn’t really add some of the fields I wanted and I think I just gave up on my 9000th Fierce.gif
Emoji.

That’s why my thinking was that starting from scratch and using the existing Mizuumi templates would end up looking 2000 times better.

Not to mention CvS2 is definitely poverty now.

Why did you remove all of the text below: Guard meter, stun meter, timer, etc on the CvS2 main page? I know you were trying to do spoilers, but it seems you’ve nuked all the text that was there.

I didn’t remove it, I just never added it. I think I realized I was getting too in the weeds for a title page, wanted to try the spoiler text, messed that up, then that’s where we are.

Thanks for the update. Something immediate that can be done as well, is fix all the character pages on the wiki not being subpages of their respective games. This is a snippet from the MediaWiki help pages

As you can see, pages created this way have dependencies. For example: creating links can be made easier or game-specific templates can be made taking advantage of subpages. However, most of the character pages on the SRK wiki are formatted like @Renegade posted above

Game: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Capcom_vs_SNK_2
Character: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Chun-Li_(CvS2)

The correct way to nest character pages should be: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Capcom_vs_SNK_2/Chun-Li

To fix this, someone has to manually go into all character pages, move them to the correct path, and make sure a redirect is created to not break any existing links. Here’s an article on how to move pages: Help:Moving a page - MediaWiki

Luckily, all users can do this (no admin perms required) so if people really wanted to clean up the wiki in preparation for an upgrade, this would be a great way to do it.

Today I updated the pages for Alpha 2 to be subpages.

Also, @Renegade (if you log in), the links to gamefaqs on the CvS2 page were broken for some reason, so I updated them. Should work correctly now.

Updated ST character pages to be subpages.

Also removed 3S from the “Quick Links to other Games” section, and added MK9, which is a relatively complete wiki page that has a lot of page views.

3S is in the header so no need to list it twice.

Also, there are 2 different 3S main pages for some reason, pretty sure we can delete one of them.

Updated 3S, UMK3 character pages to be subpages.

Slowly working my way through the “front page” (actually relevant/complete) games. Next are A3, XMen: Children of the Atom, CvS2.

Finished HDR (except Ryu, which is bugged for some reason) and A3.

All that’s left from the front page is 98 UM and 2002 UM, as far as I know.

Also spent a lot of time today removing broken links and adding the “Stub” and “Delete” tags to various pages.

Apparently nothing’s been deleted since 2014.

Finished 98 UM moving character pages. Also threw in Rage of the Dragons for free.

Also cleaned out “wanted” pages. I have no idea why Smashers feel the need to hyperlink to ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING while writing a character page. Took hours to clean all the broken links off of those pages.

Tagged some pages for deletion. Created a page for the Blazblue series.

There’s a lot of tournaments that need results uploaded. For now, really all I’m concerned about are Evo (including B3-B5) and Tougeki (SBO). Not sure exactly what majors are relevant.

For “front page games”, all that’s left are 2002UM and 2002.

I also found out that Vanilla SF4 character pages and Vanilla MvC3 pages all need to be fixed. -Sigh-.

Some work being done on the wiki homepage, figuring out what games to “Feature”.

Moved MvC1, KoF 2002, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure character pages to be subpages.

On the complete games list page, I added several alternative wikis for other websites that are more complete, specifically: Mizuumi, Dreamcancel, Tekken Zaibatsu.

Thinking about adding a list for the Street Fighter 5 changelist, similar to what exists for SF4 and Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Fighters History Dynamite, 2002 UM, Champion Edition (and probably WW if there’s a page for that), and SFEX2+ are next.

Finished moving character pages for World Warrior, Champion Edition, MSH, and MSHvSF (except for Champion edition Honda for some reason is glitched).

Also fixed for the formatting for “The Rumble Fish 2” because some asshole doesn’t know basic organization.

Finished moving all capcom games to be subpages.

Found more random game pages lying around. Tagged a bunch of pages for deletion.

Still a little more organization to do, but most of the boring stuff will soon be over.

Hopefully new wiki instance in a month or 2!

I compiled all commands available with the {{#motion}} command on the wiki here: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/User:Jotamide/sandbox#Full_list_of_.23motion_commands

I’d be nice to have @inkblot provide us some documentation on how these worked back then. It’s a neat template worth standardizing across the wiki.
