SRK VOTES!. Who has the best St.Mk?! You decide!

I have always had discussions about who has a better move or whose is the best, and thought it would be a great way to get a communities large opinion on where they think moves stand up against each other. Daigo said something along the lines of st.mk being one of the best button’s in the game for a few characters so I thought that would be a great button to start with. If this get’s a good reception i wouldn’t mind doing more.

Simply put, ill post a move by everyone in the cast, give all the appropriate data and hitbox info, and we will tally the votes and rank them.

I’ll start off with evil ryu

Juri. Crouching AND Standing.

Btw this wont get good reception. Especially since you can only make 10 poll results. You would have been better off using strawpoll or something

Funny thing is that we had this same discussion about 6months or a year ago I think.

Generally it was agreed that it was between these characters:

Juri, Deejay, Evil Ryu, Rose with most people agreeing it’s probably Juri.

Though we only did sMK not command normals or other normals.

Evil Ryu

Guy

abel gets stepkick but ken doesn’t? @_@

that should be towards mk, yeah

Well I felt abels step kick and Kens aren’t nearly the same. And I felt like the way ables step kick is used, fits into the St.Mk category better. that’s also why I put oni’s f+lk and Dudleys mp since they are much closer to the style of poke I was just trying to classify

That’s very interesting that guy and hey even sagat didn’t get mentioned

Guy’s sMK is really good but those 4 are a step above everyone else. Guy would probably be 5th. Then Gen or Ibuki IMO if just talking about sMKs. Sagat’s isn’t anything amazing to me, solid normal that fulfills an important role for the character but not super amazing. Mainly because despite how it looks it doesn’t have great reach, and it’s 9F startup.

BTW there is a 2nd version of Cody’s farMK. It has a different hit/hurtbox when holding the knife vs not holding the knife. The hitbox and hurtbox both get noticeably bigger.

Ibuki of course.

why isn’t sagats St.Mk amazing to you? It has more range then guys, it is only 1f slower start up then guys but 1 more active frame. Has 1 more total frame count (22f vs 21f) but 1f more block stun and 10 more damage. From a poke stand up (stuffing normals, maintaining a set distance, commanding your ground) they are both very good and almost identical in my books. Guys is better but it’s not head and shoulders above I don’t think. Guy, sagat and evil Ryu are usually the ones that I hear arguments about at the arcades with each character specialist sticking to their guns on their own characters normal

The hitbox on Guy’s is WAY better than Sagat’s. Guy’s hitbox is the best of the bunch even if the move itself isn’t the best sMK. The hitbox is so good it’s incredible. It has a better anti-low hurtbox and significantly larger hitbox and smaller hurtbox than Sagat’s.

I agree with you 100%. But the application in which both their pokes are used would be in the same context would you agree?

The points you just made are why I agree guy has a better one then sagats but if sagats poke is still winning the exchanges in the same context guys would, would I really say it’s much worse?

I don’t think Sagat’s sMK is ever winning if both are using it at the proper ranges. Guy’s hurtbox is farther back than Sagats so Guy’s will win. most of the time. Also just because one beats the other doesn’t make it better or worse, you need to consider more applications for the situations it can cover as well. Guy’s is better at going over lows and can even be used as an anti air vs low angled jump ins. Guy’s also doesn’t stick out as much during the start up or recovery making it a bit harder to counter poke or whiff punish.

That is also why Juri, Deejay, Evil Ryu, and Rose are often considered better by many. Rose has one of the best reaches while also being one of the best at going over lows as it has no hurtbox touching the ground. Juri’s has a fantastic hitbox, fast startup, can go over lows AND anti air and does 100 damage if both hits conenct as well as is 2 hits. Deejay’s is basically the same thing as Juri’s but not as good at going over lows and the hitbox isn’t quite as good. Evil Ryu it is because he moves forward when it’s done and it has a good hitbox and can be comboed out of on counterhit and has one of the best ranges.

I think you completely misunderstood my last post. Reread it again if you don’t mind, I didn’t say sagat ST.mk vs guys St.Mk literally in a match, I said in a situation where guy would poke against his opponent with St.Mk and win, sagat would too if he was in guys place instead. I never said to pit them off against each other litteraly which is the understanding I got from your response here

Also CH St.Mk > super > ultra 1 with sagat does over 700

You don’t even need the CH just makes it easier and would be common using it as a poke

Vega of course.

Dudley’s, followed by Rose and Evil Ryu.

bison’s

it completely shuts down shotos’ cr.MK
