does everyone know about this and im just wasting my breathe cause i when i found out i was like holly crap thats so much easier…
Punish AA Focus Attacks with j.hk x shoryuken. Big damage because of the counterhits and it will always beat it.
I think everyone knows about it. it’s also in the main sf4 faq. a couple of threads for SRK shortcut were also discussed in the Ryu forums. I posted one up a while back on pro’s and con’s of using it.
The general impression from this forum is that the classic way is the way to go. A few people have found it useful for cr.lp/lk, cr.lp xx srk, including myself.

Cons: Didn’t really see any, cept that any of those ex charge punches can be grabbed(forgot to when i saw them)
Tournament
[Round1] Ryboy (Dictator) vs Kilivan (Zangief) / 0-5
We had some delay (2 bars) but it was still playable.
He doesn’t know the versus very well so he did a lot of jump and got punished by lariat.
You have to work on your wake up options and mix up, only teleport if Gief try a crossup.
Use MK/HK to keep gief at a good distance, also learn to to do safe Knee press.
If you block a green hand don’t jump, but punish it. I don’t know what’s the best punition for Dictator bu you can do some lk, lk, knee press.
[Round 2] Carzilla (Rog) vs Kilivan (Zangief) / 0-5
Good use of jab to counter tick throw and 360 also nice use of jump to prevent 360/720
Don’t jump on Zangief, lariat beat or trade with your jump in. I got a lot of free knock down thanks to yours jumps.
Don’t be afraid to finish your combo with a headbutt, Zangief have a lot of life and lp x5 isn’t enough to kill him.
Too much random Headbutt after wake up, I am waiting for them most of the time.
I think you should zone (I know you don’t like to turtle^^) and mix up wake up option (back dash, focus, ex dash, headbutt, jump). My goal is to get a knock down and guess right after that so it’s easier if you always do the same thing.
My english isn’t so good, tell me if you didn’t understand something.
I wait for your feedback too.
Ryboy iGi v Kilivan
Um pretty much the best gief iv ever played cant tell you a hole lot but you did good man…gg keep up that hardcore giefer

Casuals
We played about 10 or so matches with Ryboy taking one more than I did by the end.
PROS:
-solid dictator dude.
-Your combos were pretty good, you missed a couple but you just got your stick, so I’ll chalk it up to that.
-You used the scissors kick very well, covered ground, keep pressure, and as a counter was too hard/impossible for me to punish or do anything about it.
-Your games with devils reverse worked very well in your favor one match in particular you took about 1/2 my life with just this one move.
CONS:
-The missed combos that I mentioned earlier, I wasn’t able to punish more that a throw or a couple of c.LPs but if I had better execution, there were a couple of times where I could have wrecked you.
-c.RH dictators sweep is wierd, you caught me with it a couple of times but I think I blocked many of them and was able to at least throw you after them.
Over all you were pretty solid especially for only having your stick for a week, keep up the practicing and you will be dangerous. Good games.

Great matches cant quite remember how many we played but you owned me good anyway think i only won one against your M. Bison. Your Akuma is on point, nice combos and set ups. I guess the only things i could see you should work on is you AA DPs were telegraphed by your up down movements (Doesn’t mean i did’nt get smacked by them a lot lol) But I started to catch on and watch for you movements to tell if you were going to DP or not. Other thing is watch for the reversal DPs during peoples block strings I would start one and then dp knowing you were going to try and jab/kick and i caught you with that quite a few times. All in all solid Akuma nice zoning and you know what to do up close. GG

Great Games, I think I learned quite a bit. Lots of close matches, lots of not close matches both ways. Little bit of lag at the start there, forgot to turn off my downloads.
A couple things I noticed was again, probably due to lag but I got a lot of throws in, though you did tech probably about half of them. You threw out some punishable Ultras, so I guess you should be more careful about that(though I’m guilty of that too.) Aside from that I countered a lot of your headstomps and the fake headstomp attacks. So I suppose against characters with good AA, it would probably be best to use it sparingly.
TOURNAMENT
round 1 vs. zippomastr(balrog) i win 5-3
execution was the main problem that i could see …i landed a lot of fireballs on missed punch attempts, and he could not seem to avoid jumping in when i had ultra and i used the lp shoryuken to set-up ultra and i believe that was the gamechanger
on the positive side his mixups were very good he had solid defense to cross-ups and throw mix-ups…i would only say to work on execution and learning his combos more to punish mistakes harder…very very goos games though
round 2 vs phatal phd(bison) i win 5-4
ohhhh what can i say …these were awesome
he had a sick crossup game and he mixed up his head stomps /reverses very well and had me guessing a lot his reactions were pretty much spot on and exploited almost all of my mistakes
the only advice i would say is to use the teleport more on wake up i can honestly say i sucessfully landed 75-80 percent of my cross up attempts…and i did catch him in a very few crucial spots useing the stomp to cover ground instead of the crusher or slide…which made me able to land my lp shoryuken into ultra
overall very gg’s i had to come back from a 3-0 deficit just to stay in…i can say it could not have been a closer ,atch gg’s
casuals vs. xippo(balrog)
u have adapted a lot i don’t think i caught u making a stupid jump once but i did find that when i stayed in ur face and contantly applied pressure i was much more sucessgful but i would say overall great improvement in execution and decision making…if i had to crtique i would say just prcatice a few more fast paced matches…also very gg’s though
Vs. iwanttoquit
1.You had ok fireball zoning at first but you didn’t mix it up afterwords so I was able to sneak in free damage.
2. Less Wakeup Dragon Punches after I seen it a few times I just started to walk in and bait it out. It’s ok to do once in a while if you are 100% sure they are going to do something.
3. Fireball timing, when you are trying to zone add purpose to your fireballs and make sure they hit. You want to keep me out since that essentially is your best poke in the game.
4. Fireball Spacing, Almost the same thing except after a while you started throwing fireballs from Ranges 1-3 and if someone can predict them coming out then you’ll end up eating free jump-ins. (If you can space it right after you throw them you’ll have enough of time to dragon punch.)
5. Try not to blow your Ex-Meter in a zoning game, I seen a few Ex-Hado’s come out when you can be using them to stop a poke or pressure me in the corner.
6. Don’t be afraid to Dragon Punch. No one should ever be able to jump in on you.
When I didn’t see them come out it took the worry away and I just kept following up with jump ins.
7. If you trade a dragon punch and someone is boosted high enough into the air go ahead and Ultra if the spacing is right.
8. If you check out some Calipower/Watts matches you’ll notice they’ll throw a few fireballs then sneak some random long range pokes out (:lp: :mp: :lk:) to bait a response. This allows you to get your opponent nervous and make them think twice before randomly jumping in.
9. When you have good pressure going feel free to try use a throw in the middle to get a mix up in.
10. When you score a jump in try linking into a DP so you can either FADC into Ultra or get the knockdown for another cross-up attempt.
(I know we’re susspose to do a pro’s and con’s method but I’m really bad at that.)
I try to find 10 things and list them.
Honda information: (This is taken from the Honda vs Shoto bit)
Ken/Ryu (Grouping them together, basic shoto strat is the same with subtle differences)
- vs. the hadouken games mid-stage: If you are a full screen away, jump towards them. If you are 1-1.5 character lengths away, jump towards them and hit. If you are 2-2.5 character lengths away, do NOT jump towards them, jump straight up and forward+HP, FADC or telepathic buttslam over them. Do this until you get them cornered
- vs. the hadouken games in the corner: Hadoukens will no longer be predictably shot. When they are cornered and you are fullscreen away, jump towards IF they shoot a hadouken. If not, walk towards them. If they do nothing, they are expecting you to jump in over a “hadoken” which they aren’t going to shoot, then DP you. So dont jump. Instead, just hold down a charge and buttslam/ex HB if they make a stupid move. If they jump towards, quickly jump up and immediately HP to hit them back.
- Ryu can not punish blocked headbutt at all. In fact, 90% of ryu scrubs will do a hadouken after blocking a headbutt, which is a terrible mistake because it means you jump in and land j.HP. Ken can punish MP/HP headbutt with f.MK but it barely hurts at all.
- When you get them on their back: Test out the waters by going really close and cr.block. If they get up and don’t do anything/block/jab, next time hit them w/ oicho on wakeup. If they do lp shoryuken, block and most likely he will do another one, punish the second. If you want to risk punishing the first go ahead but you may eat lp DP. If they are shoryuken happy on wakeup, bait it out, block, punish.
- A deep crossup buttslam beats out wakeup shoryuken.
- Jumping HP from FAR away trades w/ shoryuken.
- ULTRA flies right underneath tatsumaki (i.e. you can’t beat them out of it), except for ryu’s ex-tatsumaki which can be punished w/ ultra. Oddly, normal HB beats or trades w/ tatsumaki.
- ULTRA can go through fireballs, and ryu’s super and ultra at the startup.
- Buttslam will stuff ken’s ultra if it’s on the way down and deep. Even if not, you will not feel the full force of the ultra, but just a couple flames going up.
- Buttslam loses to cr.HP
Ryu can also Reversal DP a blocked Buttslam
If the Buttslam whiffs go for a sweep or a bread and butter because by the time you go for another throw Honda will recover fast enough to do another buttslam.
Daigo Vs Akimo
Hope that helps.
Great post except for one little thing. A blocked buttslam cannot always be reversaled. Only the roundhouse buttslam is -3 on block. Otherwise, it really sounds spot on. I’m going to study this and put it to good use.
wkwong11
gg’s wkwong11 aka newbkills
I feel like our connection was a little laggy for more advanced stuff but you adapted to my throw mix ups really quickly, that did lead to some nice baits for me but on the whole it was hard to rush you down. Towards the end of the set I felt pretty dead in the water.
My only critique is I felt like you jump back to much when pressured. Offline Abel players will chase you better than I did or, off a f+mk apply a lot of frame traps if they see you jumping out of mix ups, like c.lp, s.fp xx rekka. But I can’t knock you to much because it was working for you.
I felt like you were really good at finding things that worked against me and exploiting them until I made you stop, like cross up tick throws, which were tough for me to tech. I’ll be looking forward to watching the vids and reading your thoughts.
VS EyeLoveSF4
Pros: Great use of focus attacks and neutral jumps. Got use to my jab/throw mixup pretty fast.
Cons: Can’t really think of anything. Pretty solid. You do let me back you into a corner just about every round with balrog. Which sets up my jab/throw mixup. So work on zoning I guess.
VS Newbkills
Pros: Also good use of focus attacks. Great use of Low Forward to interrupt my Dash Punches.
Cons: Execution. Missed alot of SRK->Ultra. It seems like you were having an off day though.
vs Afro Magician
Pros: Great combos and execution once you got in on me. A good wake up game kept me guessing. Once you got me down you usually took about half my health. You switched up your tactics mid-session and started getting some jump ins on me.
Cons: I don’t know Abel that well, so I don’t know what exactly you need to do. But I did notice you had a semi hard time getting in. Maybe that’s just the way it is, just gotta sneak in there eventually like Gief. Just like me jumping back, a lot of your jump ins were also vulnerable to SRKs, just no way I can SRK them with a little lag. Offline SRK is pretty dangerous too.
Notes: Thanks for the tip about the jumping back thing. I wasn’t really sure what I could do to get out of trouble. It just seemed to work at the time
VS GO0SEY
Pros: Good mix up combos with Rog and good TAP timing. Very good corner pressure and you also watched out for me trying to escape and put me right back in several times.
Cons: Nothing that I can really point out. I guess it’d be execution as well since you did give me some opportunities to punish you for missed headbutts (even though I screwed those up too, lol).
**
VS alex6x6x6**
Pros: Good throw mix ups with jab ball. Also baited my SRK with the same move.
Cons: Gotta watch those slides. The Blanka’s that I have trouble with almost never use the slide unless they are 100% sure its safe. Use electricity on wake up to stop my badly timed jump ins. I would also save your meter to EX ball me on reaction rather than just throwing it out there. The Ultra after knockdown wasn’t a good idea either since I had meter for EX SRK.
VS iBurst Cherries
Pros: Good normals in the air. You stopped a lot of my cross ups and jump ins since I wasn’t expecting it. You
Cons: Need to work on AA. I was almost never afraid of getting AA’d. When you fight a Ryu, you need to be scared of AA. Try to tech some of my throws or reversal SRK them. SRK is obviously more dangerous but easier to pull off. I would do it at least once in a while to keep me honest when trying to tick throw. Also, the early attacks with your jumps let you wide open. I would attempt to tech a throw every time you landed since that’s really the only thing you can do.
Here’s the plinking thing I was talking about: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=186686
Good games everyone. And thanks for you feedback.
Oh yea, I recorded all my matches today. Just takes forever to get them edited and up.
Feedback Banker KingAlo(Ryu) vs Zippo Master(Rog)
I dont need to write your good moves, because you already know them.
I’ll write your bad-habbits:
- Generally you need to play more aggressiv
- If you get anyone in the corner dont let him out. Punish him with rogs combos and pokes.
- You always did random buffalo-headbuts to setup for ultra. Try to include this in a combo and only do it wiht hit-confirm.
-Work more on your combos. Rogs combos are outstanding and you can always setup for your ultra with them.
