SRK Training Team (XBL)

VS kyarisan & cyberekin

Respectively

Fun to play with. I’m writing this about a week after we fought so I don’t remember your faults. I do remember you playing the most agressive Chun-Li I’ve faced against Balrog. You even put me in the corner a few times. Outstanding use of pokes. Look forward to playing with you again.

Adequate Bison. Honestly I only feel like I won those fights because you have trouble blocking my Dash Swing Blow. I did have trouble against your crossups and you should have used them more. Its tough since his J.MK. It’s looks like your trying to do a fake crossups or that your won’t make it to the otherside but you do.

vs DaMoney21

we only played six matches or so, but the one thing i can say is that you could work on overall pressuring your opponent. i was able to control the match and pretty much do whatever i wanted. when i fight ryu, the really good ones, they are usually on my ass and pretty much keeping me on my toes, when they score a knockdown they get up right in my grill and try not to let me breath. i didnt see any of this from you. its something to look into.

vs SabeZ30

first off, very nice ryu. exactly what i was telling damoney to do you were doing. the first 2 matches it looked like you were trying to figure me out and played a little more conservative and i could clearly tell that you were a well educated player. at the third game it looked like you got a grasp on my game and you started playing very aggressive. What you made me VERY aware of was that i can be pretty damn predictable with my fireballs. for the next 3 games i kept telling myself " he is anticipating your fbs, you are being predictable" after that third loss i made tried my ass off to NOT be predictable and try to bait those jumps by making look like i was gonna fb. it did the trick, at least it looked like it did. you would jump at me at the same instance where i would have been throwing the fb and i was able to punish. throughout the rest of our games i caught myself being predictable again and i paid for it. you also pretty much made me use my Demon flip for spacing and setting you up for stuff rather than an attack which was good on your part, made it harder for me. your combos and execution were spot on. in case you were wondering why at times i would get you with ex palm and dash and do another ex palm or just ultra was because i was trying to do dash ultra after the ex-palm. I can do it fairly consistently but for some reason i was missing it more than usual. you were basically the type of ryu i was looking for when i came into the ryu forums asking for matches cause i wasnt getting any good comp and i wanted to learn the match-up better. but no one responded to me, in fact , i was just ignored :frowning:

vs JuIcY MacKiN

good games man, you have a nice akuma and you got a lot of tricks. you had pretty good execution and didnt miss any combos. you did well avoiding my ex-fbs and normal fbs, but got a little predictable with the way you were doing it and i was able to palm through the air fbs you were doing to avoid my fbs. you may want to change it up a bit with how you evade, so instead of going to one method every time, you use a variety to be less predictable. there were a couple times you could have did ultra on me but didnt, i woudl just say be aware of those situations and capitalize on them.

vs DaMoney21 (Arbie21)

You can combo pretty well with Akuma. The air fireball + s.HK/c.HK trap was working pretty well for you too. Be careful about spaming fireballs, as it becomes predictable. Also, I think there were a few times when you could have used the Ultra as an AA or to catch me out of a FA. Watch out for the whiffed DPs. I was able to punish a few of them, but better players would be getting more damage in. The matches in which you used Ryu were closer, but it will take time to transition to Akuma. I think that once you start using Akuma’s full arsenal (especially the teleport and demon flip), you’ll be a stronger player. Just let me know if you want to get some more matches in.

Thanks for the tips. Your mix-ups and cross-ups kept me guessing all 5 matches. I wasn’t sure how to handle your pokes, but I’ll try more c.mk from now on. I’ll send you an invite when I think I have improved a bit.

vs shirase akira

ggs man, and yeah i know what u mean about the predictability and the ultra usage. I think if i mixed up a little more and used the ultra when there was the opportunity (missed a lot if not all i think) might of won the closer matches. but yeah you have a real good offensive mindset and when you get me in the beggining you usually get me the rest of the match. The only thing i suggest is if you are going to attack on my wake up, don’t do it everytime becuase sometimes i would punish you before you got your attack out. another thing is the jumping in. But i think this goes for everyone that have faced me so far. You jump in a lot becuase i dont AA. Hopefully that is just against me and not a habbit against better players. i know i have to work on that too. Other than that you were pretty good. the only other thing i can suggest is that you work on throwing if i block your links. But other than those minor things good games, hope to play you soon.

vs killakelly

im so sorry but i was rushed on the matches and don’t remember much so i cant post anything to help you, sorry. But i will be more than happy to play you again. just hit me up whenever

Vs. Shirase Akira

Wow, you got a really solid Ryu. The only thing you did wrong was crack under pressure. when i was close to winning a round you started randomly jabbing into the air and i caught you with my random wakeup super. Really nice FADC->Ultra. way to pull it out when it counts. Overall try to keep your cool.

Vs. Kyroc4ever

gg man u did good turning it up a notch after the 4th match definitely started to use the speed of bison and made me try to pin u to the corner which u did good by throwing out the headstomps. u stopped all my rushes with the quick pokes that he has which is a plus and u somewhat threw a mixup throw game which made me guess if you were gonna throw or not. definitely try to teleport when out of the corner and gtfo of there and practice some combos with those pokes and you’ll be set. as for the headstomps its useful to get out of corners as well as a mixup game, u can definitely keep them guessing. gg man

Same!!! But… I will still be really unfamiliar with Cammy so don’t mind my noob moves vs her!

**Round 2 Tourney Match
newbkills vs Sabez30 (5-1 Sabez30)
**
Good games as usual. I hate my current execution, I missed two chances in a row that would have won me another match. I really like your Ryu. Your zoning and spacing is very effective and forced me to try to advance on you. I know I should have sat back a little more but my gf was screaming at me to leave so I just blindly rushed in a lot.

You adapted quickly to my tatsu’s which kept me from getting knockdowns and closing space through you FB’s. I was a way over zealous with them later on it the matches. If you were expecting to me to tatsu from long range, I would try to punish with SRK instead of cr.MP. You can using the SRK shortcut to ensure you don’t accidentally stand up and get hit. Very powerful when you have meter to FADC Ultra. The wake up SRK was semi-predictable as I was able to bait it once or twice but you were also able to break my pressure strings so I see the justification.

I have to say a high percentage of your throw attempts were somewhat predictable which could also be used to your advantage. I was option selecting after each hit in the block string to attempt to tech, I noticed you were doing the same but if either one of us threw a delayed SRK it would probably help you keep me from trying to tech each hit. When I was playing offline over the weekend, one guy would just option select almost every hit and tech’ed probably 80% of my throws.

I also liked your jump ins after knockdowns. I wasn’t able to tell which side you were landing on which gave you some big damage on me. Something I really need to work on my end.

The one thing that would have really shut me down would be teching my throws. I know it’s harder with lag, but I got most of my damage from throws. I would suggest practicing more teching to balance out your game.

With your zoning ability, you should also try to back me into a corner more. If you start your BnB mid map, I would end with Tatsu instead to push me back into the corner.

That’s all I got for now. We’ll play again soon. (PS. I didn’t have time to get it recorded so no vid’s again).

Vs. DaMoney21 (second time)

I think, this time, you are were doing the same things that I would not suggest doing. There were too many reversal DPs. Those are really easy to punish. Also, I really think it will be good to your games if you can do the shortcut for Akuma’s Ultra. I could literally see you were trying to do Akuma’s Ultra.

**Vs. veitxmilkey **

I am sorry that I didn’t have a mic. For your games, you have a pretty good Akuma. You might have been a bit passive and that might be why I had more control over the games. Try to abuse the fact that (my) Bison does not anti air well and you could give me more pressure by crossing me up.

SabeZ vs killakelly

Haven’t come across too many Gouken’s so I was really unfamiliar with the match up. I really needed those first 2 matches to figure things out because I really had no idea how to approach the fight; plus, I never played you before which explains you destroying me in those matches. Here’s what you should work on:

  1. Turtle - Gouken is naturally a defensive character. All his moves are meant to counter/keep people far away. Figure out which normals are best at specific situations; for example, Ryu’s neutral jump strong and forward are pretty good at knocking people down from jumping in. Play to you characters strengths.

  2. Predictability - Change things up. Throw fireballs, play footsies, turtle, rush down, etc. Keep people guessing at what you’re going to do next. Be sporadic, but safe at the same time. Don’t do the same shenanigans over and over again.

I’m sorry, but I can’t even give you any more feedback due to my inexperience with Gouken. I don’t even watch video’s of him. If I learn more stuff I’ll be sure to let you know. I guess you can read what I have to say for newbkills because some of it applies to every player.

SabeZ vs. Newbkills

You tried to many random things. You seemed unsure of yourself for most of the match. Might have been your girl, but I don’t know.

  1. AA - I jumped in A LOT on you. You probably DP’d me like 4 times. Maybe it’s the lag, but figure out a way to always knock people out of the air. Neutral jumps, forward jumps, c.fierce, s.roundhouse.

  2. Combo’s - Like you said you lost a round because you couldn’t finish a combo. This is just training room stuff so I’ll leave it at that.

  3. Predictability - I knew you were going to FA my fireballs so I just EX fireballed you. You didn’t get in on me once using that tactic. Just do things different OFTEN. C.forward one time and next time do a f.fierce. Makes you harder to read. Helps especially since Ryu is pretty linear.

  4. Read - Every person has a hole in their game. Either they’re too agressive, turtle too much, missing links, same block strings, etc. Against me, you had a hard time getting in and doing damage. Find other ways to get in on me or simply punish me because of my agressiveness. I have to rush in eventually.

  5. Comfort zone - Break it. Don’t do the same 2-3 hit combo’s. Challenge yourself. Utilize FADC into your game more. Get creative and take risks. It’s just a game after all.

Sabez,

You know I’m actually very cautious about trying to AA SRK online. It’s difficult to time without some mashing and I’m trying not to mash as it messes with my offline play (and makes me sound like an idiot, lol).

Most of your jump ins were from untechable knockdowns. How should I best deal with those? Everything I read before basically said just block and try to tech any throws. A wake up SRK can be baited with safe jump and can be stuffed by cross ups. Me knowing that plus blocking the wrong way a few times were really what gave you all those jump ins.

I think my main problem is trying to fight off aggressive players. Is see this as my most crippling weakness at this point. Players that I can normally dominate, if they get that momentum and turn up the pressure on me, it is very hard for me to fight off. Any feedback for that at all? Thanks.

Let me try out this “bullet point” style feedback

vs Secti0n 27

  1. BnB’s. Just like me, you were not able to link your cr,jabs into Ryu’s BnB combo’s. When you eventually got a small opening, minimum damage was dealt. (lag sucks I know)
  2. Jump ins. If you are getting out fireballed, don’t result to jumping in as a alternative to get in. That is exactly what I’m looking for. If you are able to avoid them, it may prompt me to advance or I might start throwing them in unsafe zones if I don’t think you’ll jump anymore.
  3. Meter use. I saw a lot of long range ex FB’s from full screen. If you want to try for a knockdown, make sure you threw the FB well before I did. If I counter with an FB and you predict another FB on the way, then throw your EX FB.
  4. Dealing with FA. I use FA quite a bit. On jump in, don’t attack, just land and throw. During footsie’s, you can EX FB, but I prefer to Tatsu for more damage and no meter usage.
  5. Ultra set up. Ryu can set up his Ultra in so many ways. I didn’t really set a good example in our match, but work on at least one or two methods for Ultra set up. The 2 most dangerous but easiest to do: early lp.srk and jumping mp
  6. Your Boxer actually gave me a harder time. I would abuse jabs and cr.hk way more.
  7. Ditch the random HB’s. That’s like Ryu doing random SRK. You know where that goes.

vs reelsmartkid
Great set. But I still need a lot of help against Boxer.

  1. Excellent BnB usage. I was definitely looking out everytime you had Ultra.
  2. TAP more through my fireballs. Get in a little closer to avoid getting punished for doing it.
  3. Good read on HB during my wake up. Caught me trying to tech on wake up.
  4. Vary the throw pattern a bit more. I think you only threw me once after the first blocked hit. Most were after 2x cr.jab. You did a few walk up throws as well which we great. I couldn’t tech for crap.
  5. Save meter for getting in. Once you had no meter, I felt like I could easily zone you out. I was not threatened by any ex rush punches which allowed me to FB more. You also didn’t TAP punch throigh them often so I wans’t afraid to be punished.
  6. Use a quick tap punch to punish my FA attempts. That was my main way of dealing damage to you. If you shut that part of my game down. You could have easily dominated me the whole time.
  7. Which brings me to the last comment. Which is a question. How can I get in more on your Boxer without FA in the picture.
  8. Rufus was good as well with links and BnB’s.
  9. Watch out for my cr.mk xx hado. I poked the hell out of you with that. You can try cr.hp a bit further out to keep me from getting within range.
  10. EX messiah kick when I try to zone right outside cr.mk range with FB’s.
  11. Most pressure and mix ups. I didn’t get tick thrown by your Rufus. You won when you increased the pressure. Keep that going.

Feedback for Vs OneScotch:

Ryu

Had a good Ryu and had the basics nailed down. A good base which you can work from.
Areas to work on: Execution. You hit me with the SRK>FA but couldn’t get the DC>Ultra off a couple of times. Work on your BnB combo’s. Work on your zoning and when to attack and when to defend. I got too much damage off you when I shouldn’t really have.

Balrog

I would say the same as above. You have the some of the advanced set ups pretty much under control. You hit me with the EX Headbutt>Ultra once. But the same as above, you took too much damage when you really shouldn’t have. Work on your spacing, pokes and pressure game with Balrog with more variety in your mix ups and work on your BnB’s.

Tournament 2 Round 1
ImTomdotcom (Gen) vs MartinRob (Ryu)

ImTomdotcom won 5-0? Or was it 5-1?

Good games MartinRob.

First off, we had a two bar connection. Personally I think it was fine (and Gen is very execution heavy) as for your gameplay Martin, I’d say work on your punishes, lots of missed ultras. I know this can be hard, especially on a character whom not many are familiar with, because you’re not really sure which of my moves are punishable or not. But fortunately for me, I didn’t get too hurt when I made some jump in mistakes.

If you go to my youtube channel (http://youtube.com/asiantomdotcom) you’ll see past Ryu matches I have. I’ve won my fair share but also have lost very badly to some. The Ryu’s I lose to are very defensive and hardly ever offensive. There are a lot of fireballs and anti-air shoryukens. It’s really a rough/frustration time for me haha, but it does the job.

Obviously, what the fireball range you’re at because Gen has a very long jump in his crane stance (you know he’s in that stance because he stands on one leg haha). You probably won’t fight many Gens, but I believe you did well despite that. If I think of more to say I’ll post it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t record our matches.
