SRK Training Team (XBL)

Round 1 Tourny Match
newbkills vs PHATAL PHD (5-1 newbkills)

Good games.

You did a great job of getting out of pressure and had a good wake up game. Your EX headstomps and teleports made it hard for me to continue to pressure you. Corner pressure was also very good, it took me a little while to get out.

I would definitely abuse st.HK more. I didn’t see a whole lot of that. BnB’s are a must. You’ve successfully crossed me up a few times but didn’t lead to any big damage or a knockdown. I know there was some lag present, so that might have been the culprit. A lot of the jump ins you attempted were pretty dangerous, I couldn’t punish in time with AA SRK though. I would advance with st.HK’s and scissor kicks. Get the knockdown, play your mix ups, get some more tick throws in your block strings.

Bets Gouken I’ve played. Granted I haven’t played that many, but up till yesterday I thought Gouken was cake. I like the hard hitting combo’s and ultra set ups. You were usually able to maximize your damage with each opportunity. Your zoning was also good as it was a little tricky for me to get in and score a knockdown. I don’t know about the EX Tatsu on wake up for you. It seems a little too risky. That’s like me throwing a HP SRK on wake up. If it doesn’t hit I’m pretty screwed. I know you have your reasons like we talked about. But in hindsight it just doesn’t like a great option.

vs cybernike
You had a good mixup game with Blanka and your Bison was also very good.

Vs Blanka, you make good use of the balls that pressured me more than most other Blanka’s. I’m still learning the bag tricks Blanka has so most of those were also working on me. You used your ball to escape or counter most of my cross up attempts, but electricity from other players have also seemed to work well, I didn’t get that from you. Is there a specific reason why? Didn’t see much use of your Ultra as well, I think the few times you used it I blocked and punished with my Ultra.

Vs Bison. You didn’t abuse headstomp, which is good since that is the main thing I look to counter. I don’t really recall any major points that I can bring up. I was getting a lot by being too anxious and tried to jump away only to get hit by scissor kicks. I wasn’t really able to counter your ground block strings so that was to your advantage and racked up the damage as well. I would have liked to have seen more BnB’s for better punishment and damage overall. I think more st.HK poking would have also been beneficial.

vs Geeelang
Good BnB linking. A lot of your jabs converted to your BnB which is great. Your spacing is also good which baited my cr.mk and allowed you to punish. I would be a little more conservative with the headbutts. You whiffed/I blocked quite a few of them which allowed me to punish. I didn’t really punish you that hard so maybe you weren’t scared, hehe.

We only played two matches and I won. He quitted without a word. I guess he would only want to play someone that he can win, so my only suggestion to him is be not afraid to lose or he will never improve.

Vs.Only Dsquared
Your Ryu is pretty good; I could not bait you to do random SRK’s. However, your Ultra was a bit predictable(even though I fell for it sometimes, it probably would not work for someone better than me). Also, I would suggest that you should be more focused on one or two characters. Playing all different characters might not be the way to go in this game.

I noticed early on that you’re still doing wake SRK, and I still miss these ultra opportunities and many more. I must commend you on countering my wall jump attacks, which I need to cut on, but this leaves me wondering what to do to counter it. I’m also at a loss as to countering your main strategy: run-away, projectile spam.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that you’re not FADCing out of your fake Focus Attacks which has left you open to Fajita Busters when I catch on.

does anyone use the chat it be like dead quiet and i can’t get a game

Your gief is very strong. One of the things i noticed you seemed to do very well was mix ups. You constantly had me guessing on my wakeup. Your rushdown was also very impressive at times, but at others it seemed like you held back when it would have been advantageous to be all over me. Just something to think about.

As well, I thought your zoning skills were fairly good. Your proper use of pokes kept me out for a good portion of the matches.
One thing i noticed was that you didn’t use the ulta at all during any of our games. I don’t play zangief myself, so maybe their were no opportunities, but I would work on trying to get that ultra out more often.

Vs Cyberekin

Nice Bison, Blanka, and Ryu. You have a very nice mix up game, and your combo’s are good. The only thing you might have a problem with is that your in the air a little to much. I don’t know if you are doing that because you are exploiting the fact that i don’t have strong anti air, but if you do that against someone a little better they would get you much often. Even i managed to land a couple ultra’s off of the short srk anti air’s. Also to keep the pressure you tend to crossover or do the same move over and over, which is kind of annoying, I did not know how to counterattck that though, so i guess that was good. Good games, very nice

Vs. DaMoney21
Good games. I was in the air a lit, because I saw that you were not comfortable with the crossups. Also, for your akuma, learn how to do the shortcut for Ultra. I did see a few random ultras here and there. For your Ryu, try to cut down the number of reversal DPs, which are easy to punch. Overall, nice games.

** (Final) Goose**
Nice Balrog. I am hoping to play more with you. I am not good at dealing with Balrogs. Even though I lost most of the matches, it seems to me that you might have a problem with crossups?

Played VS. against Maple Maniac. Very good Ryu, he has the fundamentals down solid. Totally destroyed my n00b Ryu completely.

Pros: Good rushdown game, solid use of tatsu and hado combos. Kept me guessing and defensive. Use of FA is also very good.

Cons: I am not at a skill level to see any weaknesses in his game.

Look forward to the next battle!

Played in the 2nd Tourney vs Sabez30 (Akuma vs Ryu): Sabez30 won 5-1

Good games. The one game I won you hung back a little, and didn’t pressure akuma and get in his face. The rest of the matches, you were right where Ryu should be ~ c.mk, c.rh range. Great hadoken pressure.

I like the AA cr.fierce, but I’m not sure why you’re not AAing more. If you have time to block, you have time to srk. Until I do empty/safe jumps there’s no reason not to srk.

I tried a couple of shenanigans (whiffed palm strike into super), but those didn’t pan out, as the palm strike didn’t whiff and I wasted a full bar :(. I also missed a couple of demon punishes to focused sweeps and whiffed fierce srks. I missed tons of c.lp, c.mp links :frowning: and did a couple of srks when I meant hados. Overall, shitty execution on my part

SabeZ vs Beybass

  1. Combo’s - learn them because you missed a lot of 2x c.jab, c.strong, etc. Maybe because of the 3 bars, but you should really still be able to land that combo because it’s one of the easier combos. Try tapping to a rhythm because that normally helps me out.
  2. Spacing - At times you forgot how far I was from you and either got poked or threw a hado and ate a jump in. ALWAYS, keep in mind what an opponent can do from where he is standing. It’s hard at first because you aren’t used to it, but the more often you do, it will start to com naturally.
  3. Zoning - You didn’t use your hado’s to their potential. If anything you overused your demon flips which didn’t even get you much damage. Get used to used all of your hado’s. Most players will panic when they see an overhead hado and will eat it, giving you the opportunity to punish w/ sweep, etc. Red fireballs are also great for chip and during a fireball war.
  4. Footsies - Akuma has really fast walking speed in comparison to Ryu. Use his mobility as an advantage against slower characters. Moving in and out at the right ranges depending on the opponent can force them to whiff and eat a punishing sweep. Get a feel for the max range of his pokes.
  5. Wake up game - It was really lacking in this match. I don’t recall you doing anything consistent when you knocked me down. You actually played it like Ryu when you knocked me down. I would suggest using your demon flips to confuse your opponents which side you’re going to land and mixing it up with wake up meaties. For example, demon flip palm whiffs into meaty c.jab or c.short. Also, air tatsu is a great mix in which you can finish with a sweep if it connects.
  6. When you have the lead you want to hold on to it. Akuma can run away from hours using air tatsu’s and his teleport. His fireballs will also knock a very offensive person down allowing you to space yourself further away. You don’t need to pressure all the time because Akuma can be near death by eating two combo’s.
  7. If your having trouble with match ups, go to the other characters forum and read up on him. Get familiar with their strategy in order for you too succeed.
  8. Predictability - You changed your game a little bit during our FT5. It definitely caught me a little off guard in the 4th match, but I started to read you a little bit there. From there I changed my game plan and became more aggressive. You need to do the same for every player you go up against. Don’t do the same setups/pokes/anti airs/etc. Take a little damage to get information; not always on purpose of course, but it could mean the outcome of the game. For example, walk up to the person and poke them with s.roundhouse. If they poke you after you hit them perhaps it would be a good idea to whiff the next s.roundhouse into Raging Demon after you’ve hit them with s.roundhouse 3-4 times with it. Pretty much, be unpredictable as possible. Don’t make your first approach the only approach you have.

vs Cybernike
Good games. Your Bison was really solid; you had solid game play and were really patient. You were able to get me into the corner often for some reason and put some pressure(w/ scissor kicks, etc). The only thing I can say is to work on tech throws and blocking some sweeps (against my Blanka). I only played your Blanka twice, but the way you played him was solid as well. I don’t really remember what happened, but you won both games. I didn’t really see any mixup, but you still won by pressuring with your balls and solid play.
