GGs man! Work on being a little bit more patient at times. Rufus is a beast on Zangief when he is patient. His pokes can shut down Gief if used correctly. Also get some of his combos down that link to his ultra. I saw that when you had ultra you would try to get me with the j.HK -> ultra. While I could have lairated your jump ins, there was no need because I wasn’t scared of the jump in. Had you been punishing me on your jump ins, you would have been eating alot of cr.PPP lairat. Lairat happy Giefs tend to pay for their mistakes and lead to tons of punished Lairats. Not a good idea to even think about getting lairat happy vs good players.
On your Balrog I think its pretty much the same thing, an overly offensive Rog will eat alot of SPDs and even if he has good pressure is bound to make a mistake that will allow Gief to take the match and turn the offensive. If you are rushing down a Gief and he blocks alot that should mean move out if your offensive is not super tight. All he is doing is defending till you leave yourself open. Rog has sick combos he can do with meter. All Gief is doing while defending is waiting till you leave yourself open. You are already in his deadly range.
Patience and running away is key to winning against Gief. While you can be offensive in spurts for most of the part, the keep away game works best.
vs DaMoney21
Good follow through on combo’s on hit confirm. But you definitely need to work on the timing and change it up for block combos. A deep cr.mk xx hado can leave you open for punishment. cr.mk xx tatsu will not hit when I’m crouched, so try to not do that one unless you know I was standing. Ultra on wake ups you already know wasn’t a good idea when based on anticipation, based on reaction can be useful. Jump ins were weak an predictable in most cases. What you want to avoid doing is jumping after a block string or after a fireball. (Avoid, not never jump, cause you can score a combo once in a while.) However, once you get them once, they’ll be looking out for that jump. When you enter the unsafe range for me to throw fireballs, I am particularly looking out for jump ins. If you want to jump in, I would wait a second or two before doing so. That can throw off someone’s anticipation and make it harder to react. During your block strings and wake up games, add throws to the mix. You can throw pretty much anytime you think you’re opp is going to be only blocking. Mix that up with a frame trap and you should do ok. IE: cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mp xx hado is a frame trap when you don’t linke cr.lp and cr.mp. You catch them once or twice with the cr.mp xx hado, next time, do cr.lk, cr.lp, throw. Get in there head. There are a lot more places you can add throw to your game. We can go throw it next time we get some matches in as this thing is getting kinda long, haha. Good games.
**vs Shin Kimosabi **
Nice Akuma. Didn’t really see any of the big BnB’s for Akuma but may have been because of the lag. I hard a hard time teching the walk up throw (and even my wake up srk’s weren’t coming out as a last resort) but you made a good use of it.
A lot of shoto’s jump in from range 4 over your FB and try to bait a sweep or poke and they’ll SRK as they land. I landed this twice on you and then mixed up the 3rd time with a walk up throw. If you know the Ryu likees to do this, you can walk up slightly and crouch back and try to bait the SRK. This is where option select would be handy. If they SRK, you block and punish, and if they do nothing you get a poke out.
Ryu pros: Very solid Ryu player, you have the SRK FADC ultra down to a science, and your OS throw improved over the course of the fights that we had (i was getting you earlier but you quickly made adjustments). Good combos, great zoning and ground game. Very good focus baiting.
Cons: Not much because you pretty much mopped my Ken the whole time, until you switched to a stick and I started getting the advantage from your missed links. Aside from that, i’d say not to throw too much jabs because sometimes that can get punished well and it can become a bit predictable. Mix up your style just a bit, you do alot of focus baiting which may work on me well, but maybe against a more exp player they’ll take advantage of it.
hope i get better vs Ryu over time…i think sparring with you already made me realize a few things I need to be wary of.
maplemaniac and Rokubear, can you guys post your full info list so that I can add you to the list with all the proper info? Thanks.
TBH, I think one thread is currently sufficient for feedback. I like the other forum as well, but I think we’ll have a harder time getting everyone to sign up on a separate forum as well just to post feedback (have a hard enough time getting people to do it here). Keeping this thread more lively could also help it grow and draw better players as develops and grows larger.
Like me and Sabez were saying yesterday, let’s just try to keep the thread cleaner by using the IRC to look for matches rather than posting to this thread.

Yeah did you notice the teleport after those punches, lol? That was me effing up my ultra. Seriously, I missed every ultra attempt in those matches. I need to work on that in training mode.
Ha, yeah I just started incorporating his ultra into the game. I’ll work on that.
I appreciate you taking the time to right all this up.
One thing I really liked that you were doing during the beginning of our matches was that you mixing up your tick throws, which really threw me off. Like some times you would cross up, jab once then grab, or some times you would go right into the throw so I couldn’t predict it. In our later matches you started to fall into a pattern so I felt it was a lot easier to tech the throws. Try doing what you started off doing, mixing up the throwing times when you’re going to go for the throw.
Also, with dictator I just think you need to learn the match up a little better. I’ve lost matches to ryu’s (or any character for that matter) because they focus absorb my Devils Reverse, or skulls crusher and then combo me for big damage. Try focus absorbing those moves if you think I’m going to try to hit you with them. That’s a big mind game also, because if the dictator see’s you focus his attacks like that he might stop trying to hit you with them overall. NOTE: Do not try to focus the EX versions because they hit twice.
Also, this one is huge. Use your focus more in general, man. Ryu’s FA is pretty damned good and you didn’t focus one jump in. Try playing around in your matches by focusing at certain moments, especially jump ins, even if it doesn’t pay off, you’ll be able to gather knowledge on when to use it and when to not use it.
With Akuma, I don’t know what advice I can give you. I go for a lot of air fb’s what you could try to do is time an fb so that it hits me on the way down from a jump fire ball. I’ve had ryu’s do this to me before, it can be effective, but really difficult to time. So moar haduken.
With Rog, I think you handled this one pretty well. I can’t really give much advice, since I don’t know ryu very well… I hope this helped.
It’s rare for me to actually play a ryu who knows how to play, so I really enjoyed it. Next time we play I’ll record our matches.

Great Honda. There’s really not much for me to give in terms of tips since I rarely face good Honda’s and when I do, they are usually solid. Like everyone else on the planet, just keep working on execution. I did notice after reviewing our match videos that you perhaps jumped a bit too much, and I did not punish enough and sometimes I did but screwed up the Ultra. Perhaps against a better player they would punish this better. Good games, looking forward to more in the future.

Very solid Cammy. Your rushdown game is exceptional. Sometimes you mistimed your links and combos where I could either block or counter on occasions so maybe tighten those up. This also lead to some unsafe Spiral Arrow’s after a mistimed link where I could punish with a damaging combo or Ultra setup. Just work on this and pick your spots to be aggressive and you will have a very well-rounded Cammy.
You play your Ryu very careful and at times is good but try to be a little more aggressive. You also have to block the opponents grab from time to time as I grab you alot of times especially when you were down and I got close to you and grab you 5 times in 1 round so work on throwing alot. Wake up ultra isn’t a good idea unless some one is jumping in and you time it really good to catch them but also work on you FADC into a ultra or lp lk lk tatsu but other than that your ryu isn’t bad but then again you just got the arcade stick so your in the learning process.
vs Newbkills (wkwong11)
Good Ryu…we fought 7 times and I got the best out of you 4-3 but all our fights were good except the lag that was going on(could be that your in Cali and I’m in FL) but we both couldn’t do our combos half the time(so in my opinion the 7 fights we fought don’t count due to the lag) but from what I saw when you face a Gouki player I was able to lure you into a hadoken fight and then demon flip you for a 4 hit combo at times or air throw you during the demon flip. Like Da money21 you also get caught by throws when your down and I got close to you. You low mk with a hp hadoken was on point and you had me guessing half the time we battle. I must say your Ryu is nice and I like the way that you mix it up with rushing down and counter attacking and also your FADC to your ultra was tight.
I would like to spar with you guys again and thanks for the tips you guys gave me…my goal is to compete in EVO 2010 and I need all the sparring I can get plus tips as my joystick arrives in 4 weeks due to back orders…oh and newbkills thanks for the new place to shop for my buttons man and future arcade parts…
You’re about on my level, and you were for the most part able to hold your own as Ryu. You play it pretty safe and you got me good a few times. It seems like you need to work on your spacing/ranges, though. You whiffed a bunch of c.mk and c.hk (I have this problem too, I’m still learning my ranges), and you overshot a bunch of crossup attempts. It looked like you had a bit of trouble with anti-air as well. I just wasn’t scared to jump in on you at all.
You did well with your ultra use. It seemed like you only used them when you knew I was going for a meaty, and you only threw it out randomly once or twice. Once you get down how to set yourself up for ultras, you should be alright there.
Ticking hurricane into a throw was good, we were about 50/50 with you catching me with it and me teching it. Along those lines though, you could definitely do with attempting some tickthrows on blocked jump-ins, though. It’s a good mixup once you learn when you can get away with it, and I think you would have gotten more rounds in or at the very least brought the matches closer if you went for it.
yeah gg’s. You punish really well and adapt fairly fast. When you block my attack you usually take the opportunity to punish me which is good, although you missed a couple chances to punish. There was also one time when you messed up punishes and I got you, but overall good defensive game. Not trying to get back at you or anything but your anti air game isn’t amazing.Don’t misunderstand me it’s not bad, but a reason I tried to cross up a lot and jump in is because I wasn’t stopped, although you blocked it, I was still able to land it. And if I thew more after the block string I would of been able to do a little bit more damage. Even though you said that you are still learning your range. You keep me at s good distance with you pokes which is a strong suit of yours. Overall great bison and I good games, hope to face you more.

All I can really point out is your pros really. It was hard for me to find a mistake, let alone an opening to do some punishment. I did my most damage when I was able to cross you up, so i guess work on avoiding that. But for the most part you do a great job of zoning and keeping my bison out. I need to learn how to switch it up more once my air game gets shut down like that. You’re a really solid Ryu and can land his combos with ease it seems. You did whiff a few moves, but that was few and far between. I also shouldve stuck with Bison instead of swappin to Akuma for the 2nd match. But keep up the good work and keep improving.

to everyone that i played yesterday. i will write some feedback when i come back from bodyboarding.
You have a good Bison with the fundamentals locked out. You bait nicely with Devils reverse, you use the teleport intelligently and can deal easy damage quickly. You caught me with some nice tick throws and wasn’t ready to tech.
In order to take your game to the next level, I would really recommend you learn and perfect BnB Bison combos’. There were a few times that I whiffed and should have been punished and if you had executed a BnB it would have bought the pain on my Ryu and changed the momentum of the match. Instead, I wasn’t afraid of taking a few risks becuase I wasn’t afraid of your punishing ability. Abuse his standard hard kick more. The rounds you one, you really hit me hard with them. Its one of Bisons best pokes. Use his J.HP more often. Lastly, you took some easy damage when you could have easily avoided. Either becuase of a late reaction or trying to attack too much. Block is your friend and never attack without knowing what your actually looking to do i.e combo, pressure, cross up or mix up. Often it seemed you just jumped for the sake of getting near me.
Hope I wasn’t too harsh on ya Phatal!
Good games allround man. Hope to catch up with you soon.

He missed some punishes and ultras. But I attribute it to him not know what Gen’s unsafe moves are. (if Gen walls dives and hits above your knee, you can always SRK or punish in some way.)
You did a great job zoning me and kept me where I didn’t want to be haha.
I recorded the matches. Will post them here when I upload them
I missed a lot of hands combos during our matches, but I’ll let you critique me:P
Your akuma was good and I would have liked to play more of it. What I can say is the Akuma vs Zangief match is in your favor, you didn’t use your mobility. You should be teleporting on wake up instead of always trying to beat a Zangief meaty. There was alot of ground fireballs that I could land j.HP with. Thats big damage to Akuma that he really doesn’t need to take. Close match with the Akuma.
As for Seth, Im not sure counterpick is always a great idea. You were doing okay at j.HP and sonic boom. At times you would wall jump when not needed and I could land a headbutt. While I was playing very predictable in this battle, that what Zangief has to do to win. Its impossible for Gief to play that matchup clean unless the Seth is REALLY bad. The only way I was winning was scoring a knock down off your j.HP arms and dealing damage on wakeup games. And even then with Seth, you should have just gone for the teleport on wakeup because both Seth and Akuma are softies to Gief.
