I donāt have too many but hereās a couple a took during my stay in Japan. Had to use a cheap Minolta that was like 3500Y and Iām no photographer but I still like them

next couple are while climbing Fuji

Made a few of those DIY Lightboxes. I think I would have better results if I had more light. I only made use of a low hanging florescent light fixture and one florescent lamp on the side. I used my flash, too, aimed down from the top part of the box. I probably shouldnāt have, because I kept trying to get the light from the flash to go through the diffuser sheet on the top, so all of my shots were really close up.

I feel kind of weird putting these next few pics up, but I figure what the hey. Maybe I can get some advice. Iām not trying to do this professionally or anything, but Iād like to take nice pics of my family membersā¦
I took a pic of my nephew in the box to see how it would turn out, and this is one case where I think I was too close, the focus point was his shirt rather than his face.

And hereās a pic of my daughter, inside the box. I had to take a couple of quick pics cause sheās pretty restless now, but, again, its really close because I need to find better lighting.

The ghetto-ness of the DIY lightbox/light tent is not representative of its quality. I think they work great, but you need some pretty good light sources, which Iāll need to work on. Still, Iām pretty proud of the results since it was indoors and nighttime, and I just used what was available.
I think Rei put up some links on the subject, but for those interested in trying to make one, get a cardboard box, cut rectangular panels on the sides, drape a blanket or cloth over the panels/holes you cut, and shine some florescent light on the sides and top. Use posterboard as a background (tape it to the back and let it slope down to the front of the bottom of the box, but donāt crease it). If anyone wants more info, try this link. I did it similarly, but a little more ghetto.
^cute kid :aawww:

Is your flash attached to the hotshoe?
Yeah. This is the reason I asked you a few weeks ago about how I could get a single flash off of the camera. I havenāt been able to order anything from your suggestions yet, but I think I can and should now.
How close can you get your florescent lights to your subject without having them in frame? Every time you cut the distance between your light and your subject in half, you double the effective amount of light coming from that source. If you can double the effective amount of light, then your can close down your f/ and get a deeper depth of field. Then you can have both eyes in focus, rather than having to choose one or the other.
Really any of the photographers in the VII photo agency consistently blow my mind. Particularly Marcus Bleasdale who has some amazing B&W stuff. Thereās also James Nachtwey who has been at the top of the photojournalism world for quite a whileā¦
You can browse a lot of their stuff here: http://www.viiphoto.com/photographer.html
And in other photo news⦠HDR whee!!!

It might be completely hokey looking, but damn, I still love it, lolā¦
Also, I got this at a recent budget protest. I like the picture a lot because I saw it way before I shot it and I managed to get a good caption for itā¦

Parents, students, and teachers sign a petition that will be sent to governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in response to his proposed budget cuts to education at Buena High School in Ventura, CA on April 18th, 2008. Schwarzeneggerās proposed cuts would take away nearly 5.6 billion from the California education system, which is currently ranked 48th in the country.
i really like this one. it has some illustrative effect.
Thanks!
Hey there, guys. Iām not a photographer myself, but I appreciate all your work, and wanted to share this with you. Probably you donāt know, but thereās a volcano erupting right now in the south of my country, and itās probably one of the southernmost volcanoes (dormant or active) in the world. News, but not that big, huh? Well, being that far at the south (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaiten, for those interested), weather conditions are usually adverse. So what do you get when you have an erupting volcano and bad weather?
The closest to Hell on Earth:
And you can see more pictures of this, here, a local blog about graphic media (scroll until about the middle of the page to get to the night pictures).
Hope you enjoy the pics, and sorry if this bothers you. I just feel that it has to be shared.
