SRK Newbie Saikyo Dojo Arcade Stick FAQ (Read this before asking questions)

Hey, looks like this is a good thread to ask for some basic execution tips. You know, basically how to get better at using your stick properly to pull of moves.

Dont put your whole arm into the motions. Gently move the stick and listen for the microswitches clicking, that’s the movement you need, you dont need to hit the sides (or “ride the gate”)

Feel the gate, if you have a TE it will be a square gate. People tend to find charge characters instantly easier with a square gate, and fireball qcf/qcb motions a little harder to get used to.

Spend time practicing in training mode, and turn on input display so you can check you’re actually making the motions you think you are.

Practice lots.

Awesome post + replies, really cleared up a lot of questions that I had. Thanks all.

Try reading the execution thread, actually.

Colored text usually ends up being really offensive to the eyes.

Ok sorry if this sounds stupid. I use my friends TE round 1 fight stick and my dominant hand is my left. The problem is when I am facing an opponent who is on the right side of the screen I can easily pull off specials, combo, ultras, etc. However, the problem is when the opponent is on the left side of the screen I have to cross my left and right hand to pull off the same moves. example my right hand would now control the joystiq and my left would be for buttons. Maybe I am still getting through the fight stick learning curve so my question is there a better way to learn to efficiently use a fight stick facing opponents on both sides of the screen or is this a common problem of types?

yeah go into practice mode and practice on both sides when doing links, combos etc like practice on the side you arent used to first but dont forget to practice on the side your good on so you dont get rusty on your good side. muscle memory will kick in sooner or later. its a common problem but i never heard of anyone crossing there hands to make up for the awkwardness of a playing side. i know people may just 100% play cross handed like Seth killian but switching it up maybe a little weird. one thing to remember though is if you feel comfortable the way you do things keep doing it. the only concern i would have with the way you play is wouldnt you mess up alot more if someone was to cross you up because then you would constantly have to keep switching hands and you might cross yourself up in real life lol.

lol thanks a lot. Well I would like to start off by congratulating you on your funny ass Eli Porter picture ( I’m the best manggggggg I deed it!) but ya I think I might be naturally better at playing crossed I just have to practice more like you said. As for people crossing me up ya that little half second or so it takes me leaves me extremely vulnerable so instead of just running online to get beat and frustrated I will take your advice and play hours/days/etc of practice till that muscle memory you speak of kicks in. Thanks a lot and I will keep you updated when things take a turn for the best.

Check out the execution thread.

I posted this question on the Execution guide as well, but from reading the discussion on this thread, i thought I’d post it here too.

I’ve been playing SF4 with a stick since February, so I’ve gotten pretty accustomed to playing on the stick after switching from the pad.

My MAIN problem is executing the :qcf::qcf: when on the LEFT side of the screen. I can do :qcb::qcb: when on the right side NO PROBLEM. So when I’m on the Left side of the screen, I’m at a major disadvantage because I cannot rely on myself to be able to pull off a Super/Ultra when I want to. So I’m always trying to get myself on the right side. If my opponent knows this weakness of mine, I’m screwed :stuck_out_tongue:

I find that when I’m on the right side, the motion is so much easier to do because when I’m doing it, I’m simply just bending my wrist back and forth on the stick so the motion comes out really quickly and easily (I don’t really know any other way to describe it). But when I’m on the left side, i guess the way the hand is positioned on the stick, the way I’m doing it on the right side isn’t possible because the wrist doesn’t bend that way. I hope this makes sense to you when reading this, I wish there was an easier way to describe it.

So my question is, does anyone else have this problem, or how do you guys pull off your :qcf::qcf: from the LEFT side? should I be holding the stick a certain way? I can do it fine when I want a raw Super/Ultra, but when it comes to combo-ing or canceling into a Super/Ultra, i can’t do the motion quickly, accurately and consistently enough so I end up whiffing, dropping my combo, or worse, accidentally jumping and leaving me wide open.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I too can sometimes blow this so after turning on inputs i realized that i was just pressing 3PPP before I completed the motion. For Dhalsim, this basically means I teleport.

As for the motion, a little hard to explain what i do but, I use a “WAVE” motion when on the 1p side for fireball and a double wave for the ultra.

Also you could try ending with up-forward to make sure you complete the motion. Most characters have 4 pre jump frames so if you hit 3PPP within that time frame, the jump will cancel and the ultra comes out.

Like the execution guide says…

This is normal, go practice.

I’m gonna repost this here because this must be the right place, but I think it got overlooked.

Problem with my TE
Thanks for having a Noob thread. My down left position I have to press harder to make it register. I cannot get my 2 in 1’s. c.MK -> Hadoken to work from the right hand side. I though it was just me, but I can hear the switches firing, but the input isn’t registering unless I press hard. Wondering what I can do. Do I need a new joystick, or new switch, any help would be great, thanks.

thx for the guide.

Very helpful ^o^

This was helpful, thanks!

can somebody please help,I have Madcatz Arcade Fightstick SE and from yesterday all kick buttons are not functioning
what should I do to fix it?

First, check out the buttons and see if the buttons on the SE just crapped out. If so, I’d suggest to replace ALL of the buttons to Sanwas. SEs have knock-off brands of Sanwas.

IF it’s not the buttons, then you have to replace the PCB, since SEs also tend to have PCBs that crap out.

Hope this helps.

thanks ,but i where i live there aren’t game shops that sell buttons…

Buy Buttons online :
Lizard Lick Amusements

You can find people who sells used PCBs here on SRK.com’s :
