SRK Newbie Saikyo Dojo Arcade Stick FAQ (Read this before asking questions)

Check the stickies in Tech Talk.

From what little research I did, it seems like buying a SE stick and then modding it later is the best bet for a newbie on a tight budget.

The SE holds its own for a bit, and then if I get serious I can change the buttons for Sanwas later.

But I have no idea where to pick one up without spending well over $100. Your sticky says they retail for $60, which is reasonable, and GameStop lists them for an even more attractive price of $40. Only problem is that GameStop doesn’t have any in stock or in stores, and the only place that does carry them, Amazon, lists them for $120.

Do you guys know of a place where I can pick one up for a decent price? Or should I just go straight for the TE if I’m going to spend that much money?

Wasn’t sure where to put this, it seemed like the right place. You guys seem pretty friendly so I’m hoping you can be of some help.

The sticky also says they are out of production and hard to find.

You might have better luck finding a WWE stick, but yeah, nothing wrong with just getting a TE.

Does anybody know how to connect a Happ perfect 360 joystick in a Xbox 360 arcade stick. The stick is custom, it has a madcatz controller pcb board in it and I want the perfect 360 in there to play marvel vs capcom 2? Please pm me or post here if you know how to do this, or if you can just point me in the right direction the would be helpful to.

I’m new to the whole stick thing and I grew up on console so I find it awkward to play on stick, but there are tournaments that play on the Xbox and I own a ps3 so I’m at a disadvantage with having to play with a new control on the spot. I’m thinking of just learning how to use a stick and save myself the grief later on, so I’ve found 2 sticks that I may want to get because of the price the first is

The second is

Is one better than the other? I know the madcatz is cheaper but I’m thinking I might need to dual mod the stick and I’d rather go with the one that is easier to customize. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Please read the first post.

Does anyone know where I could get a relatively smaller arcade stick? D:

I have really small hands, and most of the sticks I’ve looked at are too big, and uncomfortable. Do they all come in one size?
Should I just get used to the general size?
Any help is appreciated, thank you.
:X

All sticks that use actual arcade parts or arcade clone parts are going to uses 30 mm buttons and joysticks with a 35 mm ball top. There are cheap joysticks that use smaller parts, but they are generally viewed as complete garbage that can break within weeks of heavy use.

I say get used to the standard Japanese layout size. If you want a stick with a small case, the Mad Catz SE/Brawl is the smallest mass-produced stick that you can buy that uses quick-disconnects on the buttons for easy modding. Rtdzign’s mini stick cases are the smallest custom sticks that you can buy.

And I suppose you could always try building your own custom stick using 24 mm buttons in a small button layout with a 30 mm ball top joystick.

So I finally got mysef an arcade stick after playing fighting games for over 10 years. I found a pretty cheap Madcatz TE and thought, if I didn’t make the change now, I probably never will. It arrived yesterday and I did a “quick” training mode session of BazBlue CT (I’m a PC fighter) which ended up lasting around 3 hours.

I have to say I am pretty amazed by how sensitive those buttons are! They are so responsive and beat crappy Dualshock2 buttons all day. After like 1 hour I realized I had to change my stick hand position to a more relaxed position and I’m now really comfortable with how I hold the stick and the case in general. I soon realized you have to be more accurate when making inputs on a stick. I have never been a masher (ok, maybe when I started SF2 on amiga as an 8 year old boy!) but I found that over the years I had grown some sloppy input habbits on the pad. After I shook those off, I started to love how accurate the directional inputs are compared to the d-pad. I could throw DPs, “Hadoukens” and qsf motions out almost instantly. I was prepared that those would take me at least a week to pull off constantly. Also shortcut 360s worked well and fast enough to do tick throws and reversal 360s. Oh and yes I like to play Tager a lot recently :stuck_out_tongue:

TL;DR: Arcade stick rocks and I’m adapting better than I thought I would but I have a little problem.

Only thing is my 720 motions are really slow compared to on pad. I bet this will become better over time. But I thought mayby some of you have a some good advice for me!

I’m trying my best to not “ride the gate” as you people call it and it already works more often than not. I’m not rushing things, since I am already way ahead of where I expected me to be after a few hours of practice. My muscle memory of course still is all used to pad inputs. So I am not in a hurry at all

Thanks in advance for all useful help. And also thanks for all the awesome and informative stuff I already found n the SRK forums!

Hi, just trying to confirm. Even though it’s not listed, I’m assuming the Chun-Li Tournament Edition Stick would be a valid choice if I am looking for something in the $100+ quality range?

Quick question:

Would a *UK version Madcatz TE stick be compatible with my *US Xbox 360 Platform?

Are there any compatibility issues at all with version of different regions playing on imported systems?

yes

yes, it would work fine. no compatibility issues.

is there any websites that will ship to ireland that sell the following sticks: madcatz wwe all stars brawl stick, or any of the madcatz street fighter sticks?

Try asking at neoempire.

i went to that website but coud not find a store

I don’t know what to tell you. The posters there would know more about where to buy stuff in the UK than most of us here.

I had the same problem here in The Netherlands.

I sent Madcatz an e-mail and they replied with a store I’ve never heard of and never found after searching for hours.
So, I guess you could try that.

Thanks for this awesome thread. I purchased the wwe brawl stick for the ps3 on the suggestions from here. I am having trouble jumping forward/back or crouch forward/back. This happens on both dpad and Left stick options. Is my stick broke or am I doing something wrong?

So I am new to the competitive fighting game scene. I have been a fighting game fan since birth and am looking to grab myself an arcade stick, nothing fancy. Because of a lot of technical difficulties with my Xbox 360 (it breaks down constantly) I am thinking of just grabbing Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition on my PC and playing via that. (a discussion on if that is a good idea will be in a different thread).

The real question though is this. I am thinking of just getting a cheap Madcatz Combat FightStick to start, just to get the feel of the controls and wanted to know if the X360 and PS3 sticks are compatible with the PC.
