Well since you brought up that game let me tell you Jones is a follower. I feel if he was Mafia someone would have already given him that perfect answer for him to post. I’d need to hear from him before condemning him.
That’s bullshit and we all know it. It’d be one thing if that thread was still somewhat active but it’s not. While getting them confused in a tab would be an issue, the fact is that there’s no reason you should’ve ended up in that thread by accident to begin with unless you only have that thread and this one bookmarked which is highly unlikely.
Ok, I just read everything from when I went to sleep, and there are a lot of implications being thrown around. I’m going to have to pick some of the things that look off to me apart, but lynching co jones doesn’t sound very logical to me. The chances of a civ being lynched are a little over 70%, so lynching because they haven’t given you information seems…off to me. Anybody that suggests lynching a wallflower also raises my suspicions as well. If were going to lynch somebody based on activity or mafia experience, wouldn’t it be better to vote for one of the better players anyway? They would have a last gasp, and if we were to fuck up, they could tell us some of they’re hidden tech that everybody seems so intent on keeping hidden. And if they were a monster, it should be pretty easy to cipher through their BS last gasp in order to confirm we made the right choice. Speaking of hiding tech, I need to go back and check something out…
Right now, we seem to be going the “trim the fat” route, which tends to be the strategy for the day 1 most of the time anyway. If CJ doesn’t show up soon, then I think he’s a goner. I understand the whole school thing; hell, I have 3 tests tomorrow. But even I have time to at least post once. He’s not helping us by not participating, even if he isn’t mafia. I’ll give him till morning to testify (because the latest I can submit my vote is 5 hours before the deadline), but if he doesn’t reply, I’m sending in his name.
If he does show up and his response is alright, I’d probably go with OZ. From what I know about SAD, I don’t think he’s mafia. I could be wrong, but that’s what my initial impression is.
If they were Mafia they wouldn’t get a LG.
Also, just because someone may be good at reads doesn’t guarantee they’re correct on Day 1, especially in this format where civs can be recruited.
The problem with killing a good player early is that the Last Gasp is not very good in the early stages because all you have are very thin assumptions. It becomes more and more powerful as more information is gathered and more accusations are brought in. But a Day 1 Last Gasp? You’re getting bare minimum from it, only the slight assumptions they made early.
If you’re going to kill off a good player Day 1 it would be because everyone is damn sure they’re dirty, and that rarely happens that early. In the end, it comes down to what we gain and what we lose.
In both scenarios (killing a wallflower or killing a vocal player), the best case scenario is that they’re a monster so let’s leave that out.
Now, what do we gain if they aren’t monsters? Pretty worthless Last Gasps in both cases because it’s too early to have a ton of merit to them.
Now what do we lose if they aren’t monsters? In the good player category, we lose extra insight and viewpoints. In the wallflower category? We lose nothing as they aren’t contributing anyway and the Mafia sure as hell isn’t going to waste a move on them.
If you think you have a read on someone, then go for it but honestly it’s rarely a great move to go after a vocal player early, especially when it’s too likely that the Mafia has steered the conversation to where they want it to go.
I literally fucking said on the previous page I was going to back and peruse older games for something. IS THAT REASON ENOUGH FOR YOU?
Jesus Christ, sometimes I feel like I have to reiterate everything I say here in crayon.
I mean, I need to repeat everything to people here.
Meaning I have to say it more than once.
As in, not one time. Two times or more.
Yeah, you’re banking on Saitsu to justify your “suspicion” of me, Matt. Invalidated.
Lynch Azure
Y—no. Just because a good player gets a last gasp on day 1 doesn’t mean it’s going to be any good. Pretty much, kaz, who has some of the best reads in the game, doesn’t have a solid grasp on the game until day 2 or later. No matter how long you keep a wallflower in the game, if they aren’t following the thread, their last gasp is going to be useless.
Like I said, there’s a risk in keeping in good players till late game, because mafia can play a smokescreen, BUT if there’s some inactive players in the mafia camps, then they can apply the same smokescreen with wallflowers. I’d rather have better players available for a late last gasp than lower level/inactive players available for a late last gasp. Players like Vynce, Chief, HAX, or Augustus having a late last gasp is much better than newer players that aren’t yet as observant or someone who is habitually inactive like TCJ.
I see your point.
On an unrelated note, @DarkGeneral I think was the first to suggest that the mayor should put everybody in the town hall but himself, I’m not sure if that was some type of yomi or just a blatant attempt at a) figuring out who the mayor is early, or b) trying to set up a smokescreen for later on in the game
There’s a difference between hiding information and formulating a plan that requires naïveté.
For example, I didn’t reveal the ‘condition’, otherwise I would directly give The Co-Jones a chance to respond, corrupting the results. By not naming him, I also get information on others that may believe my statement is targeted at them.
Withholding opinion because it ‘might be wrong’ and ‘make you a target’ isn’t gaining you information. It just makes it look like self-preservation is more important than trying to get a team victory to you.

I had two tabs open for SRK. One was SRK Mafia VIII, one was SRK Mafia XI. I got distracted by someone in the office asking me something, and forgot which thread’s tab I had open. I started typing out an observation from the game in the reply box, and hit “Post Comment,” then looked at the title to find it was the Phoenix Wright game, instead of this one.
