Another workaround we could do to the 4 hour loophole if we must is to disallow night phase talking, everyone disconnects from Forge, and then she gathers night actions, and MAYBE pulls on one person from the group into a webcam chat/interview so that it isn’t dead air while she’s doing night GM.
We do need to keep one thing in mind though.
Skype in terms of consistent reliability is a steaming pile of shit. No matter what the specs are on your computer, how good your router is, or how fast your ISP contract is, that shit crashes and drops quality all the time.
That’s true, which is why this test game is pretty necessary. We’ve gotta solidify how/if everything is going to work.
My idea for night phase was to just have everyone drop video and mute themselves, maybe allowing for text messages. While I would show the mafia and roled conversations on the stream, it would still sort of be dead air with me just awkwardly waiting 5 minutes for day phase to start again.
Oh also, I got BlackLight to get in on this too. That puts us at 6 players.
Ok, I’ve found a 1080p webcam so the issue of playing from my phone is now non-existent.
I’ve never seen skype mafia played before, how do you submit night actions? Like, I have a mechanical keyboard so if I’m typing during the night phase errybody going to know what’s up.
That’s the main risk we have to take. The only other software we could use would be QQ, and I don’t vouch for its quality either and don’t even know if it has multi webcam chat.
I wouldn’t show mafia chat on stream.
Remember, players could drop in on Twitch.
We could make it novel and just have the roles/mafia send me their actions in an SRK pm. lol
I’m not really super familiar with Twitch and how it records, so I don’t know what the best way to handle this is.
You need OBS, first off, then you need to set it to record from your desktop, from a selectable region, then have that be the multi cam chat.
You may have to make alternate scenes for a smaller window if you do like I suggest so you can have your messages with roles in another area. Basically, anything showing up within that area will be recorded. You COULD also do an intermission where you just have a graphic up and play some music in the background while you do night phase.
That’s another thought.
Also, 7 players sounds iffy, those kind of games end up a bore on EM. 10-11 would be so awesome if we can get that.
If not, 7 for now, just as a trial run.
Yeah I wouldnt recommend showing mafia communications on stream. Sure you just say “Now dont you guys be looking at the stream now!” but you really cant enforce that. It would just be better to not show it altogether.
Forge have you streamed before? Accidents with game sensitive stuff slipping out could be a problem if you show something on stream that you shouldnt.
I’ll have to practice a bit before we try any streaming, but I should be able to get things down.
I would get all message windows situated before the game starts, with individual players in one corner, all in the same corner, so you can go there and discreetly send out roles and receive night actions, and the webcam chat in another corner.
Really you want multiple monitors to handle it properly
