I hear good things about Steven Erikson’s “Tales of The Malazan Fallen”.
The 10th and final book in it just came out, I think.
Patrick Rothfuss’s “King Killer Chronicles” started out mad strong, but the second book was a long drawn out weeping tale of love and zzzzzzz… huh, wha? ahem, politicking, without really moving the story along too much. For reals, the middle of “The Wise Man’s Fear” read like what I can only imagine that a Harlequin Romance novel must be like.
I hear VERY good things about this new up and coming cat named Joe Abercrombie. Supposedly his fatasy is rooted in realistic character portrayals/motivations and such. Dunno. His last name kind of off-puts me. If he doesn’t have a character named Fitch, just maybe he’s legit.

p.s. I haven’t read a Salvatore book in several years, or any book for that matter. My wife has read all of them, she would be better suited to answer your silly question. She doesn’t post on here though so good luck with that.

He’s swarthy.
But he’s an elf i.e. has “delicate” features, all that stereotypical white person shit.
And he has light hair.

Who has green eyes.
My point being a diss upon the fact that so few modern fantasy settings allow for what would be perceived as being real world black people, being given leading roles.
The closest the X-Men ever got to having an authentic black member was Bishop.
And just look what they did to him.
They rewrote what was supposed to be a savior story (him killing Gambit, who was supposed to be the traitor who killed the X-Men, in the original script before Gambit got too popular to make that profitable).
Then they made him a traitor.
And explained it away with an angry urban youth tale.
Then they tried to pin him as a child-killer/savior-slayer.
Then they went and sicced a pack of adamantium dogs on him, and got his damned arm bitten off.
He’s now ostricized beyond any hope of being assimilated back into the X-society.
And, despite being an energy wielder, he’s always depicted as waving a damned gun around.
Really, Marvel?

Erikson seems to buck that trend, from the bits I’ve read of the Malazan Fallen books.
The best goddamned mage alive in that series is black, as is the nigh-godlike assassin, Kalam (who is a hero).

Im not to sure I catch your meaning as I totaly got lost when you threw x-men shit in there. Salvatores books that are based around Drizzt and his friends are not in a modern setting. Drizzt is not a black man but a Dark Elf. His skin is black (so sure you can say he’s black) and his hair is white. Its a freakin’ fantasy book, use your freakin’ imagination.
