But yes, livestock’s existence blurs the line between figurative and literal hell. The lives of those animals are about as fun as being abducted and harvested by those creatures from Aliens… but it’s okay-- it was always okay, before you heard of Mike Vick, or even dogfighting abuses-- because it’s legally sanctioned and serves a purpose? I don’t see how you aren’t treading deep water and contradicting yourself by suddenly caring about animal abuses, or weighing one violent act against another.

Managed to lose twice against 2 separate Akumas, one of which just spammed supers after I was basically raping his whole team. Also got my first ragequitter already. Sigh. Damn San Fransiscians.)

I often wonder if some people’s feelings on the matter would be as absurd if we ate dogs here regularly. I’d doubt it.
I mean, due to having to take care of a dog more than my sister tends to, I suppose I now understand the attachment people get to dogs and consider them part of their family (or, at least, actually care about a living thing that isn’t a human for once). But dogs being greater than people? I’m going to have say “no” to that, even as much as I hate people. “Innocence” in this case is really just “forced dependence”, but then again, who’s fault is that, exactly? Oh, right. Ours.

Sure, but there’s still a pretty big difference between torturing animals for the fun of it vs eating them. Vick is fucked up in the end. People who actively get off on inflicting suffering on others can’t really be reformed.
And duh I will always hate Vick. I don’t give a fuck about football, or sports in general, so the fact that he’s good at his job doesn’t sway my opinion of him.
Really? A lot of people are against the inhumane treatment of livestock. Cows are basically dismembered live with no anesthetic. That kind of stuff. That’s fucked up and plenty of people are against that. No, I’m not part of PETA, but I would pay extra for food to know that it was raised in more humane conditions, and a lot of other people would too, not just vegans or vegetarians. I don’t think that’s ridiculous at all.
Also interesting that you hate humans yet you think human life is still intrinsically worth more than animal life. Why? There are plenty of bad people out there, that I would rate a dog over. Just a simple perusal of the news threads on here will turn up plenty of such examples, and those are just the people who were dumb enough to get caught. Who knows how many fucked up people are out there?
And by innocent I mean not deserving of suffering. A dog is like a one year old child. They have roughly the same intelligence, cannot defend themselves, and have done no wrong. A serial killer on the other hand, is totally deserving of suffering. I believe violent criminals such as the types of fuck ups you see on the news threads don’t deserve any rights whatsoever. If anything, they should be slaughtered like the way cows are today. Good fucking riddance.

I never said there weren’t plenty of people that are against that; I’d ask that you’d not put words in my mouth. However, by the same token, you can’t act at all like that type of attitude is mainstream even though I think it should be. Still, even then, it’s not as though livestock is thought to be more valuable than people since most of the people that want more humane treatment of them will still eat them rather than not eat them at all if more humane treatment was enforced/enacted.
Compare that to the fact that many people have said that they would save their dogs over a random person (and I’m not talking about just SRK, obviously). You think that most (American) people would do the same thing for a cow? A chicken? A pig? Hell no. Even farmers wouldn’t do that.
So, yes, I think that if Americans were in the habit of eating dogs more often, then I don’t think nearly as many people would be so absurdly reverent of them.
Again, I don’t think that’s ridiculous and that has nothing to do with what I said or was saying, especially since I agree with that and I don’t eat that much red meat anyway.
So just because there are some people whom a dog is better than, that translates to ALL people? This is exactly the inane type of argument that makes me shake my head.
I mean, even as much as I don’t like dogs (or didn’t; I’m relatively neutral now), it’s not like I’m going out of my way to say that I’d save a serial killer over a dog if both were in a burning building just because Mr. Killer is human. What a crock of bullshit. Outside of puppies and, I don’t know, really small dogs, I’m pretty dogs are at least as intelligent as toddlers, maybe even kindergartens depending on the breed. They’re “dumb”, but not that dumb.

If you meant “not able to defend themselves against properly equipped humans”, then that can be said, unfortunately, of basically any and every other animal that has the misfortune of sharing the planet with us, even the many of them that would fucking destroy most of us bare-handed otherwise.

There isn’t a big difference between inflicting pain and suffering, and enjoying it. Maiming/killing a live animal, more complex than a tiny arthropod or house critter, is a huge line for a civilized person to cross, whether it’s morally and legally justified or not. There’s no walking away from that experience with a clear head.
And I’m not just saying that for the sake of debate. That’s real world shit. I’d be just as careful around a decorated war veteran who killed for country, that I would around a reformed thug who killed over a stupid initiation. They’re both killers, desensitized and stripped of their reservation towards killing someone/something else.
