Neither does God of War. Giant IPs like that never seem to get the negative feedback that they should. Critically, anyway.

God of War 3 has like… what 5 total enemy types not counting bosses, and they just reskin them from start to finish. Nothing really changes. However, if other games of that style (Castlevania Lords of Shadow) have a lot of the same enemies, its garbage and gets slammed for it.

Frustrating to say the least.

What games DO you like, Rabbit?

I’m hard pressed to find the proper perspective on you, here, and any input you could provide as to this would be most helpful.

Cursing is my religion. And Jesus fucking Christ, religion has continuity issues.

Also: I am floating, with my eyes closed, with no sails. I am soaking, I am weathered, by the winter of mixed drinks.

insert game coming out in 2 weeks, to be replaced in 2 weeks by another game coming out in 2 more weeks :coffee:

Wait, weren’t you posting in the Diablo 3 thread? Diablo is like, 15 minutes of gameplay stretched into 60 hours with egregious amounts of palette swaps and slightly better equipment being dropped every now and then to make it seem like something new. Like, the entire game series is a rehash of what you did in the first dungeon except with new spells and bigger numbers.

I like games that have real challenge, and don’t try to hold my hand through everything. Games that can be played on a competitive and balanced playing field.

I really like chunky, video gamey type games. Games that you kind of have to cheat your way around the system to progress, where you have to know exactly what triggers this enemy and when, when you SHOULD get hit so you can be invincible for a second to slip by. I like stuff that is totally unforgiving that doesn’t try constantly tell me what to do.

Risen is an awesome RPG that I had a blast playing because it was so hard, and unforgiving. There were parts of the game where I had to cheat the system, and sort of glitch enemies in place so I could kill them. It doesn’t pop up with a tutorial every 20 seconds, and nobody tells me where I can and can’t go because it may be too hard for me. You get killed in a split second with no warning just because. That is awesome.

That’s not to say I don’t enjoy games without weird glitches, because I really do. I like BF3 a lot despite it being modern military shooter bullshit. I do like games that are sort of rehashes, and don’t do anything new. I just want them to at least be humble about it. Like hey, here is our game, its like Mario but whatever. Instead of Nintendo, and the rest of the Earth shoving the new Mario game in my face and getting 10/10 perfect game praise all day every day, when in reality, its the same thing we have been doing for however many years.

Risen 2 has terrible reviews, but I bought it and I really enjoy it because its clunky, lacks polish, and you have to learn to exploit the games system itself. Its not just “push button to swing sword and stunlock enemies to death”.

Hell, thats part of the reason I’m so excited for Dragons Dogma. Despite being Capcom, its so clunky and weird, and has rules that aren’t just layed out in front of you. It has all kinds of weird variables that you need to spend time learning, or at least thats how this particular game seems at the moment.

I have a lot of problems with the current state of the gaming market at the moment and I could really go on about this for a lot longer, but I wont.

I just want something new, difficult, and interesting. I don’t care about holding right and jumping after coins anymore, and I don’t care how open your world is, or that it takes 100+ hours to finish your shitty game full of fetch quests. I want something with REAL choices, with REAL emotions, REAL gameplay. Something interesting. Something that I haven’t already seen a million times.

Diablo is one of those games that I just enjoy the gameplay of. I like the grindy aspect of it, and I like the randomness of it all.

I guess this seems a bit like I hate all new games, which isn’t true. I don’t care if its new, old, whatever. I just want something legit.

Gaming preferences, I suppose. Some people can get excited over sequels or yearly installments and others don’t. Perhaps those who don’t want to go for more unique experiences or might be picky when it comes to details in games; while others enjoy both. In the end, it’s all entertainment and as long as a few do their job, then it’s all good.

Its kinda funny because there are games where I just want more stages with the same gameplay. I don’t mind it because God of War 1 was a lot of fun and I didn’t have much gripe with the gameplay. So as opposed to them adding random shit for no reason, adding more enemies to beat up and more storyline feels good.

Similarly if they made a sequel to Godhand, all I would really want is a few cosmetic changes, Gene back and more stages and enemies to beat up with the insanely solid gameplay it had.

Some of ya’ll tripping really hard on the difference between rehashing and “not fucking up a good thing”

I can’t get mad at Nintendo releasing the same Mario and Zelda over and over, when I love the Dynasty Warriors series.

That is a good point, but DW gets trashed for being the same game over and over, when we both know there are always changes from one game to the next. Nintendo, and other major developers don’t seem to get that.

Can you even make it past 30 minutes playing a DW game? I can’t. I use the games as a quick, braindead, timekiller.

There is no way the lounge needs new threads still. That poser lounge in the UMvC3 board has over 44k replies.

Yeah, I gotta say, I can’t stand games that have the intent to be quick timewasters. I get bored of them fast. I much more prefer games that actually pull me in and make me want to keep playing, rather than shortly after, moving on to the next game of the same type, like if I were ADD riddled.

Amazing title.

gawd damnit. everyone in the avengers thread got rock all re-hyped on black panther and half my tumblr is black panther posts when it should be big fat asses and titties.

no…their is never enough ass.

this is a copout.

Im pretty much the opposite of this. I prefer the games that I can play anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes. I really just cant handle sitting around listening/watching/reading some bullshit anymore. I just wanna play. There are exceptions as I do enjoy some games that have good/deep stories.

edit - Handhelds are pretty awesome for short gaming sessions. I can play for 10 or 15 minutes, put that shit in sleep mode and walk away. When I want to play next time turn that fucker on and im almost instantly back to the game, right where I left off.

I subscribe to a similar gaming mindset, Rabbit. I also hate Zelda with an undignified passion. Diablo is repetitive and reuses a lot of stuff, but it’s also really random. It’s the “everything’s random” aspect of the game that makes it appealing.

I also like that Diablo has a lot of customization involved. Sure I’m storming through waves of monsters, but how I do it is totally up to me. It’s also hard for all of the right reasons, and it never really held your hand or shoved its story down your throat. It wasn’t really on rails, and you could skip half the game pretty much. It was awesome.

Zelda died the minute Demon’s Soul was released for me. Dark Souls slayed it’s spirit. I can never return to the elf protagonist in tights.

Fuck Allergies.
