Scrambled eggs with tuna topped with cheddar cheese. Good shit.
Yeah, I’m factoring in Math Skill into the equation, where Black Magic should only be used in the first place, for exactly the reasons you stated. Typically you pick Wizards and/or Time Mages with Math Skill or Draw Out and wreck shit. Nothing compares. Native Black Magic is horribly countered by low faith, though, yes.
Chemists have one big thing: Guns. They are broken. Entirely due to combining with the Break ability. 8 range break team is going to be an absolute bitch to stop early on, and you need to or else you’ll just get rocked.
It’s not that Monks are bad, it’s that so many other classes are that much better. They are easily the best physical class, and Punch Art is a decent all-rounder. The problem is vertical range on all their abilities are shit. It makes for making full use out of their abilities difficult at best, because all it takes is a 0.5 height difference to avoid the whole thing. Even the defensive abilities have this problem. Monks require a flat landscape to be effective, and there aren’t exactly many of those.
I mostly liked it because of the mechanics behind it. It was a semi-active sports game with turn based conflict. I seem to recall my only gripe being that controlling stats was an absolute bitch, and once one team got far enough ahead in stats, you basically washed your hands of the whole thing.
(I’ll discuss all this even more tomorrow/Friday. I seriously need to start my studies.)
Your enthusiasm is appreciated, Epidemic…which is why I’ve decided to let you down easy and say that, provided Tethical does work, it seems really likely that Blade Grasp and Math Skill will end up being nerfed, if not removed entirely. Blade Grasp is easy to nerf, though; Math Skill is a lot more…arguable.
It’s because Square hates most things Ivalice-related.
It’s why we got Final Fantasy Tactics: Advanced…which decided it would rather pretend its Never-Ending Story, only braindead, rather than give us anything that could properly be called a sequel.
I believe that you can play it multiplayer, provided you buy the PSP version.
My left nut is starting to shrink
Playing FFT in versus mode is one of the most awesome things ever.
I’ll have to look into Tethical. I’d just like to see an overall rebalance, myself. Meth Skill just needs to go (too good), I think Talk Skill needs to have some boosts (fucking with opponent Brave/Faith needs to be a strong function, not a near-impossible one), and I would like to see a better use of Steal for pure combat (i.e. Stealing an equip gives you the opportunity to auto-equip it, regardless of class limitations). That, and I’d shift Draw Out to PA like it should have been.
My own TRPG idea was originally planned to be PURELY PvP, or at least its primary purpose, and thus, stats and whatnot would be predetermined, rather than any levelling system or some such. Something to give the customizeability FFT does but speed up the team building process drastically.
FF talk huh…anyone else think that modern Moogles look like something out of a nightmare rather than cute and fluffy like they’re supposed to look?
FF6/9 Moogles are the best.
Umm… Ninjas, sub Calculator, cast Wizard spells, rape all faces.
Cursing is my religion. And Jesus fucking Christ, religion has continuity issues.

I heard math skills in FFT destroy everything else. Wouldn’t know though, I suck ass at those types of games.
well obama supporting gay marriage today brought the stupid out of facebook people. i just want one person to tell me a legit reason, i mean today ill even except religion. but everyone is just posting stupid ass stuff like…its weird. WTF. yeah puttin ketchup on chips is weird to but i love that shit.
fuckkkk my friend just spoiled the next episode of how i met your mother cause she’s on it. lololol. gawd damnit.
Ninjas destroy errything, in speed.
Calculators arpe in skills.
Slap faster caster on, and rape errything from a full screen away.
If anything gets close, Cid them.

75 hours on my FFT. I’ve beat it, but I’ve yet to attempt the Deep Dungeon. I downloaded 1.3, but I haven’t really played it that much. I’m just after that battle with Algus at the castle.
Calculator and the ability to permanently raise Brave and Faith made vanilla FFT so broken. Orlando was absurd from the moment you got him, especially if you abuse the MP scroll glitch. Duplicating his Excalibur at the item shop is pretty fun too. Reis’s has ridiculous stats and the ability to use some really overpowered female only equipment and innate Two Hand for dual weilding rune blades. In War of the lions, there’s an extra female exclusive item you can get if you keep those 3 generics until a certain point. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
As for the best class, you can’t really talk about them on their own. Calculator is obviously extremely powerful, but it has some of the worst stats and stat growths in the game. I personally think that Ramza Squire+Math+Excalibur is the best character. Of course, any character can be amazing if you level down in a bad class then level up in a good class.
I found ninjas to be pretty overrated TBH. All they really have is Two Hands and there’s usually a better ability to set. Setting Martial Arts on Ninjas is pretty good for physical damage when you first get it, though.
My favorite class is the Mime. I didn’t use it that much because I just spammed Holy with Math skill, but I plan to use it extensively in 1.3 when I start playing it again.
What I really like about tactics though is that you can add monsters to your formation. I have all of the guest characters save for Byblos and a Tiamat in my party.
Man, I never got to play FFT, but it’s VERY high on my all time I WANNA PLAY list. Like at the fucking top. PM me a link to download it if you get the chance, and if its possible. Never had a playstation, so much fail
anywho:
Pasting. The new high. Apparently you put toothpaste on your nipples for awhile, and it gets you fucked up. What in the fuck???
This discussion is really going on in the lounge? I’m surprised no one has said there is a FF thread, but I haven’t read back to check.
Mastered every job class for one person in the original FFT. Then the multi block memory card decided to wipe everything so I threw it against a wall. I haven’t used mimes much, but when I did I would just throw objects with a ninja spaces ahead just so a mime could copy it.
Calculators are insane, but I don’t use them often. CT 5/ Raise 2 pretty much hits the entire field. If you are fighting nothing but undead you have a chance to win in one turn.
I think monks with two hand do more damage then the other way around, but I haven’t tested it. Two hand on knights is effective for breaking an enemies speed twice. FFT I think is the only RPG I have played multiple times.
Raise wasn’t even the issue with calculator. Holy is basically a OHKO on everything if you have high faith and equipment that raises magic. It’s easy enough to target only the enemies if you all the parameters unlocked and it’s even easier if you just put holy absorb equipment on your own team.
My Ramza Math, Blade Grasp, Magic Attack Up, and Move +2 (I didn’t get +3 by end game) and is equipped with Excalibur (Haste, absorb Holy, strengthen Holy), Aegis Shield (MA+1), Flash hat (Speed+1 MA+1), Wizard Robe (MA+2) and 108 Gems (Strengthens all elements IDK if it’s redundant with Excalibur). He just goes first targets as many enemies as possible with Holy (most of my team absorbs it) for a OHKO. Only my Wizard and Reis has more MA, but the wizard has to sacrifice an Item slot for haste and another for holy absorb. Black magic is pretty outclassed when you have Math as a skill. Reis on the other hand is pretty awesome with Draw Out.
Monks do more damage IIRC, but ninjas are faster, so the get more turns and do more damage in the long run. Also, Two Hand takes a long time to master if you don’t or can’t abuse the mp scroll glitch (damn 1.3 making things harder than they need to be).
I don’t really care for physical attackers anymore because other than Orlandu (and poor outclassed Meliadoul and Agrias), they have no range and can only target one enemy for good damage. I find skills like Draw Out to be far more useful.
Frog, Marle, Chrono, Luca, and a few of their friends would like to have a word with you.
So apparently I tried to eat myself in my sleep…
I don’t have a SNES so I haven’t played it. However, I have heard it is really good.
xlxlxlxl: Reis I don’t think I really used. I did get Cloud to level 99 which was a complete waste considering finishing touch was the only good skill. My team I believe consisted of Worker 8, Orlandu, Archer, Samurai, and a summoner. Worker 8 was mostly used solely for his range attack and massive HP. Samurai I like for its versatility and AoE haste/regen or shell/protect are always helpful.
