I just started running Fedora, and it’s pretty good, and honestly, a great starter system for forcing you to learn the nuances of Linux. Knoppix is just a “set it and forget it” Live CD. Not much on the educational front you can do with it. It’s mainly IMO for portable *NIX productivity, I used to use it on the library computers at school just to get away from Windows.
Fedora 15 is good though, a lot better than Ubuntu 11.04 by default. I would take a guess that Linux Mint has improved on the new Ubuntu. (By improve, I mean, gotten rid of Unity)
