Well never played any final fantasy above 6, and don’t ever plan to, so I can only comment on 1-6. I think the reason I loved 6 so much was that the music was so fucking epic. I mean, for fucks sake, this was the overworld music:

it is a brilliant mix of heroic yet melancholy, as to subtly hint at and allude to the horrific tragedies that are to befall the characters in the story…
and then we have the second overworld theme in the world of ruin. I think I finally managed to find the OST version:

The opening notes ascend, as if into the heavens themselves, signifying an undying and indomitable spirit of hope. The song is also in a minor key, acknowledging the end of the world has arrived. Yet there is an undeniable positivity to it. The upbeat tempo signifies the heroes marching forward, knowing that they have no choice, knowing that the burden of saving the world must fall upon them.
and then this is the final boss music

The use of organ is incredibly ominous. It signifies that here is where the line is drawn. Here is where our heroes will make the final stand. All their struggle and hardship has been for this very moment. Its now or never. This is accompanied by Kefka’s final speech …
" Life… Dreams… Hope… Where did they come from? And where are they headed? These things… I am going to destroy!"
Normally you’d dismiss that as a speech made by a 13 year old emo, but this is a guy who poisoned the water supply of Doma castle, rag dolled general Leo, killed all the espers, and brought about the destruction to the entire world. It goes along PERFECTLY with the music.
TLDR Nobuo Uematsu is a god,I’d totally have his babies if I were a girl no homo. Instead if I ever find out he’s coming to seattle to perform the orchestral versions of his music, I’m a straight up buy front row tickets and explode my pants
