Still, this is a movie for a western audience. I loved the original, and probably won’t even see the American one because I hate remakes, but I get why Hollywood did it. Furthermore, think we’re getting a bit too sensitive when we can’t take another culture’s story and adapt it to ours because CULTURAL APPROPRIATION. I didn’t know people would get butthurt over the littlest things.
I ain’t saying go out there and black face your ass to play Othello, but come on. Anime is in itself racially ambiguous, why can’t other cultures just adapt the movie? You KNOW there wouldn’t be shit if Bollywood did this.
How is Hollywood going to pull off the beginning scene of Ghost in the Shell, “Making of a Cyborg”? Do they really have that level of skill?

This isn’t even a cultural appropriation problem though. Asian actors are constantly shat on for the roles they should get. I like my white characters white, I like my black characters black, let the asian actors have the few roles that are meant for them.

You know exactly why this is a problem. Yeah, japanese make all their japanese characters look white, but the first chance at bringing ghost in the shell to the big screen, when it can be done right, you dont try to break the typical hollywood mold, and just find at least an asian lead. I understand if theyre like, well we dont wanna make an all asian, western, hollywood blockbuster, but at least make the lead asian.Show some respect for the people that created this franchise, to even give you the opportunity to make something awesome.
Ghost in the shell is kind of a perfect fit for scar jo’s look, and mediocre acting skill. Its not that she cant be good for the role. Its just the amount of shitting on that happens for asians in hollywood has become a bit much. You dont need a mediocre name like scar jo to sell ghost in the shell. It will sell itself.
I mean even a mixed white and asian broad wouldve been something. lol
So youd rather have a skinny, asian twig play the role, than a woman who actually has the body type and look of Motoko Kusanagi. Motoko, who looks like a white girl by the way, and is surrounded by a cast of people that look white. Regardless if she is japanese, in a futuristic japanese city.
