(Hmmm…I’m not sure why my tab for Agnosia just opened up again.)
That said, completely unrelated to anything, I must admit I do feel slightly better now knowing that my aunt is feeling better given how sick I thought she was.
Hey now, I was advocating massacring people before it was cool (to be “non-neurotypical”), sonny.
Seriously though, the easiest theoretical solution to most problems unfortunately is just to kill everyone involved, which makes sense really since the only way for a true, lasting peace to be achieved is if everyone (else) is dead.
Okay, so you like transgendered people, but don’t respect gender neutrality because people’s genitals define their gender as far as you’re concerned (and they should deal with it).
I don’t think anyone here really has a problem with calling those people what they want to be called to their faces, as much as we’d likely roll our eyes while doing so.
The actual issue occurs when it comes to them wanting to be accommodated, with literally no room for compromise on their part, for a bunch of other things that would see a completely unfeasible working of the system if actually implemented. The bathroom situation is an example of this to a good many people, if only because of the money involved in adding a third bathroom for anyone to use, which is the ideal solution, as opposed to letting even the trans-people who can’t “pass” use the gender they’ve decided they are. I’ll grant that for the most part the fear-mongering there that they’re going to encourage rapists and other molesters to abuse that ruling, with the less than subtle implication that trans-people are all that themselves, is bullshit, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t get the frustration behind a good deal of it, even when you subtract religion from the equation.
(Also, it is amusing to point out how these same people bitch about labels, but then are insistent upon labeling themselves the most esoteric things imaginable.)
Because doing things for the benefit of others is a selfless act, even tho it’s something you want to do. People putting their lives on the line to disarm mine fields after wars is a selfless act. It’s puttin your life on the line for the benefit of others. Throwing your body on the grande to protect your comrades is a selfless act, you get nothing out of it on a personal level besides knowing you saved your comrades lives at the expense of your own.
(I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree on that then given I’ve already heard such examples and remained unconvinced by them, especially given religion was brought up a lot when that’s literally nothing but selfishness to me.)
For the record, though, I can understand why saying something is “selfish” gets people pissed off since it has such negative connotations even though it that isn’t always the case. Perhaps using “self-interested” would be better in terms of discussing things like this in the future; that arguably just makes things even hazier though.
First off, I never said I didn’t respect gender neutrality. Don’t put words in my mouth unless you’re interested in an exchange where I put my dick in yours.
It’s funny how you’re trying to make this claim about me, when you’re the one who implied that transgender people are mentally ill, need help, and are “creepy” compared to homosexuals. Yet I’m the one that said that there’s no problem with someone being who they want to be privately. And then I said that the problem was when certain individuals expect special accommodation from others based on what they want in a situation where it makes little to no sense to.
And the reason I said that is because, yes, your genitals define your biological gender. Unless you’re born with both (or neither) sets, then you have either one or the other. And when it comes to a bank asking you which you are, then there’s one of three ways you can go. You can either give your preferred gender (if different than your birth one), the one you were born with, or be a bitch who wants to make a stink about their option of “neither” not being available, when that makes no sense because you have genitals of some kind, which means you have a gender to fall back on. I’m not trying to disrespect someone who doesn’t want to be identified by a specific gender, but not everyone has to acknowledge that craziness. For fuck’s sake, it’s a bank account. Just check a random box.
How you managed to take what I said and make it seem like I don’t respect gender neutrality, even after you said the shit you did, acting like you’re on the side of transgenders you called mentally ill, goddamn you are beyond “Epidemic hating on recess” tier.
I keep thinking today is not Tuesday for some reason. I should know better given the news is of course blathering about expected election results in Indiana and related bullshit.
Again, we agree on both points. It’s just interesting to hear someone who agrees with me on “everything people do is selfish” line yet still believes altruism exists.
If nothing else, then you’ve given me something to think about when I go for exercise later on today. Thanks.
And that’s the selfish part of such acts. The self-fulfilling feeling you get from helping others. I though about it years ago how there’s no such thing as a truly selfless act, because anything you do, even when it’s for the benefit of others, is selfish in that partial way by making you feel good by doing it. That’s not a bad thing, it’s not a bad kind of selfish, but you are doing it party because it fulfills a personal desire.
Selfish by being selfless. I don’t think it’s impossible.
Yeah I totally get what you mean here. Man did this post make me see the light.
Vynce I wanna say I like you too much to just let this slide, but I’ve been drinking and I can’t be sure if that’s true, but throw me a bone here anyway. What I do wrong now?
I mean I know the answer is “nothing” but help me out.
This is a complicated subject with no real definitive answers. There is some scientific basis by way of neuroscience and studies on infants that show inherent gendered behaviours. At best we can say gender is a combination of natural and societal factors but we don’t know exactly what the ratio is.
Anyways as far as this bank situation is concerned, well its pretty easy IMO. A lot of trans people just want to live their lives without imposing on other people. The kind of people who do shit like this bank situation are quite simply put entitled assholes that even trans people will call out. These are the kind of people that demand safe spaces and trigger warnings, the best solution is to never give into their demands and let them know that the whole world does not exist for them.
