Hard to decide between 1 & 3. I love Soul Calibur 1 because its what I played the ever living hell out of it at the arcades. I would rock that Predator Mitsurugi with sword #3. Unfortunately I was never able to get a copy of it for dreamcast; the dreamcast died 3-4 months into my owning it.
Soul Cal 2 I was super hyped to play when I saw the machine for it but the changed some of Mitsu’s moves around and turned me off from it really fast. Next time I played 2 was at one of my best friend’s house but he was damn far ahead in playing the game and I didn’t know how to use anybody. So all the game would do is make me salty as all hell.
Soul Cal 3 I borrowed from same best friend and played for almost the entirety of a thanksgiving break. I played it to the point where I was unlocking the joke weapons based on how many matches I had on the computer. Shit that you needed 2,500 battles type of shit. It also had Zasalamel in super beast mode. I did everything in that game except the dumbass Chronicles of the Sword and unlock all of the Owl weapons for the cast. I know this isn’t the most competitive one but I had a great time playing it with my friend.
Soul Cal 5 has no Zasalamel and they changed some fundamental stuff (the GI nonsense bleh) but it is a bit faster than 4 and I’m digging the new versions of the sisters. There was no need to take out Setsuka just to make him the alternate mode of Patroklos but whatever on that end. In all honesty the Soul Calibur team needs to stop dicking with people’s move commands. It’s just annoying as fuck. If this game had Zasalamel that was solid as opposed to the gimmick one in 4, it would be some shit.
Hopefully Soul Cal 6 will bring back regular GI, make all characters solid and bring back the lost cast. Either way I am more than emotionally attached to the series ever since I unlocked EVERYBODY’s weapons in Soul Blade on the PS1. Plus it is the one game where most of my non-fighting game friends and I are on somewhat even keel (even though I ran a train when SC4 came out by using Random Select). So everybody’s weapon in Soul Blade PS1…yeah…fun times.
They brought back Edge Master; the only thing more boss than that would be if you could give him an Olcadan outfit complete with the owl head. Maxi has been changed from Evils to Mistfit era Danzig. Don’t know how I feel about that.
