I finally looked up a picture of the guy that opened fire at the Sikh temple… y’know, it’s funny sometimes when you see people that actually look stupid…and his picture doesn’t surprise me. He indeed looks like a moron…like someone who was never destined for success in any aspect of life…like one of those guys that actually managed to fail a grade in elementary school.
…and isn’t that a classic example of how we soften the language with certain things? I think that may have started around the time my generation was in junior high… they stopped saying a kid “failed” a grade…the new accepted phrase was “he was…LEFT BACK.” or “held back”… goddamn pansy ass euphemistic garbage there…and people are so reluctant to blame the kid for his or her own failures… they’ll say it’s bad, half-ass parents to blame… or the teachers didn’t do their job… it seems like people don’t want to admit that some kids are just plain stupid… that’s reality. Some kids will never amount to anything worth a damn, despite the best efforts of parents and teachers. There’s only so much the adults in a child’s life can do, y’know? Just like any other category of human beings… there are some winners that will go on to do great things… but there’s also a lot of losers… a lot of ones that are basically a waste of anyone’s time.
*back on the soft language for a second… “Held back” is actually the worst offender, as it sounds more like it wasn’t the failure’s fault at all…that phrase implies the kid played absolutely NO part in his failure to move on to the next grade level… like The Man™ magically appeared out of nowhere to literally hold him back with some binding jutsu, while his friends progressed to that next grade.
The odd thing is how it seems so many people forget their own experiences in childhood… we all knew about certain dumbasses who FAILED, having to repeat a grade back in those good ol’ elementary school times…I’m sure some of you might’ve been close to these people as well… and you know damn well that they were failures, and it wasn’t anyone’s fault but their own. I can think of several right now… heh, I remember one of my so-called “friends” was later found out to have been stealing toys all the time, so of course Mom actually banned that piece of shit from the house. Surprise surprise… he never even made it to high school… he was apparently eager to get a nice career in criminal activity started early… he was stealing cars and all kinds of things… eventually ended up in prison. If I recall, this guy didn’t even get to 9th or 10th grade.
I’m trying hard to think of something stupider than having official off topic threads in the fighting game forums and completely failing.
I mean, the Canons used to threaten to shut down GD every six months or so, and for some nonsensical reason the lounge thread has to be locked and created anew every month or so (which creates more bandwidth than one big thread), and yet every fighting game gets its own “off topic” mega thread?
