(The Hong Kong thing isn’t too surprising given how much I’ve heard they dislike mainland China and, given how justified they are in that since mainland China['s government] is horrible, I wouldn’t say calling themselves British is all that ridiculous even if [old Imperial] Britain is just the lesser evil.
Does he mean he’s not Chinese in the sense of also not being Asian though, @odin?)
For record, I never say that I’m white, even though it wouldn’t be terribly surprising if at least was part “white” since my mother’s adopted, so she could be partially white. I’ve never asked if she knows anything about her parents actually.
I just don’t go out of my way to say I’m black unless I’m asked online or it’s actually relevant for one. For the regard, I also think “act black” or “act [whatever race or sexual orientation you aren’t]” is stupid in most cases; I’m just going by what most people would classify me even if I find said classification stupid since in this instance it’s at least slightly relevant for my biases.
No proof that he isn’t black though.
Also, yeah, when I hear the name “Denzel”, my mind totally goes to a bit character in Advent Children who added basically nothing to the plot. Oh, SWBeta. You psychic you. This is part of why I’m not getting you any presents ever: You’d already know what I’d get for you. (And what I’d get for you is nothing.)
Yes. He says he isn’t Asian hahaha
He doesn’t really relate to most stereotypical Asian people anyway. Fobs or Canadian born.
I have many Asian friends like that… But mainly since the “real” Asians just hang with other Asians and random white dudes who want to be Asian.
Definitely not enough North American blacks in my city. Just a bunch of African immigrants. But nobody can relate to them because they are either super-Christian or super-muslim.
(I was going to just take page of out of Raz0r’s book and double post unnecessarily since I was too lazy to edit in an answer to your post, Dangerous J, but it looks like I no longer need to.)
That and I’m pretty sure that the devil-summoning doesn’t work if you just edit it into things. I could be wrong though.
Either way, come forth, @“Dangerous J”, and let me regale you with my riveting answer:
It’s funny how often the “race” or “ethnicities” or even “nationalities” of posters doesn’t come up around here despite all the talk about “race” since it’s so on the forefront of every American’s mind even when the majority try desperately to deliberately avoid talking about it. In this instance, I personally think it’s for the better as far as SRK is concerned.
I’d say I’m surprised you didn’t know, but then again, I didn’t know that jae hoon was white until like two years ago despite the fact that both of us have been around for more than a decade or that Infernoman was Mexican until a few weeks ago despite talking with him more directly than most posters on here. So, it happens. But, yeah, I’m just an apathetic black American guy, not a European one.
As for the cap backwards, to answer this with my full pedantry, I haven’t worn a cap or hat with any regularity since I was…I think 8 or 9 actually. Pretty I stopped before 4th grade. I did wear a cap recently a couple of months ago after more than decade of not doing so, but that was only because I was cutting my own hair and took a bit too much off the back. I had to wait about three days or so for it to grow back to non-“you-fucked-up” length.
So, to answer your question, no, I don’t. To me, I honestly don’t even see the “hat backwards” as a “black people” thing anymore since “white people” co-opted the fuck out of it like they do with…pretty much every other culture, legitimate or not. At this point in time, wearing a hat backwards nowadays signifies to me more “probably drunk, white frat-bro asshole that I probably want to punch in the face” than “probably stoned, ghetto black asshole that I probably want to punch in the face”. Black and Hispanic people largely moved onto “hoodies” a while ago as far as headwear goes it seems to me, but then I’ve always been apathetic to fashion, so I may well be mistaken. [/pedantry end] [/quotation mark abuse end]
TL;DR:
Spoiler
You may need to sit down for this: Yes, I’m black, and, no, I don’t wear a hat backwards. I’m sorry to have shattered your worldview this day.
Ah, I see. That’s certainly more worthy of ridicule I suppose, even though at the same time I totally understand his reasoning given that I usually find myself in the same situation whenever I’m around the majority of other black people in real life. I’d say that he has even more of an excuse to feel kind of isolated about it just because “Asian” is a stupidly broad term that probably has even less connectivity than being labelled “black” does given how large Asia is and given how there are actually nations there have been established for centuries. Either way, it’s a pretty lose-lose situation, especially since people are going to label you anyway, but that’s life.
Also, cosign on African immigrants being super religious. Oddly, for the most part, the majority of them I’ve met have been decent enough, but it’s not like I’ve known most of them with any amount of depth. Shrug.
(Ugh. Some damn scam supposedly located in Vietnam of all places keeps calling my cellular phone. I wonder if there’s someway to block the numbers and why this started in the first place.)
Is Jamal really a common name among black people or something all of a sudden?
It’s an Arabic name more than anything. Not that I haven’t heard of black people named that, of course, but it getting mentioned twice as “the black name” is just weird to me. At least with Tyrone and Darnell I could understand never running into people who aren’t black who are named if you’re living in the States.
Good, man. I’ve got a pair of children now, and don’t play a lot of (non LoL) games anymore, but I still keep up to date. I have no idea what happened to my post count. I haven’t been on the forums in years, but man, it looks like they took a few thousand posts away for each year I was.
So a buddy of mine saw an albino moose up north, which lead me to investigate their rarity, which lead me to this article about how natives get mad when you shoot albino animals:
I wouldn’t post this normally, except this little blurb caught my eye:
not gonna lie, Moose Management sounds like the kinda job you don’t tell other people about.
edit: Halle Berry is available again, boys and girls. Don’t worry @Neesa you’re still my boo. But she’s a very close second.
Pretty sure post counts got messed up after the forum software transition… last year? I think. So that’d make sense, since I don’t remember seeing you around since then. Or ever really haha, which is more a function than me not being here for quite as long.
It hasn’t been 2 years since the switch to Vanilla has it?
I’m an amalgamation of all of this lol, except for frat-bro*/ghetto/black. My favorite head gear, during this time of year especially, is a baseball cap and my hoodie up.
Or atleast I hope not this, I hated frats and even when I’m drunk I’m a pretty laid back kinda white guy asshole. Though my “smart” mouth has nearly gotten me in trouble, most recently with a mason. Which was fun.
