Lounges ago, @mIRC? Uh, I only recall asking this question last lounge in an time recently given how large that lounges have regularly become. Additionally, I honestly can’t remember what you said beyond what you didn’t want in between calling Guilty Gear “Glamorous Garbage” constantly, so I apologize if I’m wrong about you saying what you did want and I just forgot already. It happens. Feel free to refresh my memory if you want.
Regardless, the overall question still stands for everyone else because I don’t remember anyone (else) actually answering despite more and more people agreeing with you that SFV has obvious issues.
Noted. I can’t remember ever seeing anyone, in here at least, say that they liked the 1-2 frame links that bogged SFIV down. In fact, that may well be the most common complaint about SFIV or, at least, the second most common one after the issues concerning free, guaranteed Ultras once per round.
NRS games have shittier netcode. They trump SFxT in terms of volumetric amounts of fecal matter, in said netcode.
To confirm this claim, my main nigga (Birdean Bimsley) and I tested the netcode in MK9 and InjustASS through same city XBL + PSN matches. He lives several blocks away from my place - less than a mile - and he is also on the same ISP + DL/UL speeds as me. We also made sure that our consoles were hardwired straight from the main modem, instead of a router.
We both had excellent ping, but still suffered from dropped inputs and massive lag spikes. It’s worth noting that the differences between the XBL and PSN match-sets were negligible; though playing InjustASS on PSN felt like a KOF 98 match against a Brazilian player on GGPO.
Not satisfied with our results, we continued the netcode experiment in my house. We used separate consoles (for the separate accounts), but hardwired them to the same router. Even on the same Internet connection, we still got dropped inputs and some lag spikes (though in small scale) in NRS games.
In summation, NRS netcode was outsourced to the same team who ported SvC:Choas to the original Xbox (which is located in Mexico).
I saw a video where Valle was talking about how shitty netcode holds the FGC back in comparison to other games in E-sports. FPS, RTS, MOBA’s all have amazing netcode to a point where you can have legit high level play, tournaments, qualifiers, etc. etc. online. He’s right.
record scratch SFX plays as other forum members give him confused stares
The netcode isn’t perfect but it’s not terrible either. Matches feel MUCH better than SF4 but not nearly as good as hopping on Fightcade or booting up 3SOnline/MvCO/DSR/Skullgirls. They did fix the online sound glitches that plagued the game at release, but the connection quality took a small hit as a result.
I’m posting all over the place now. Getting Maxx all mad in the ippo thread. Gonna just start verbally attacking people for liking things or having different opinions than me. Just living the life, living it a quarter mile at a time.
(I’m never sure when you’re trolling or just drunk again, crucades. You’re like SoVi3t and Raz0r on that front.)
@Eskills - I honestly still don’t care about SFV one way or the other really, though if you had to put me as “for” or “against” it, then I’d be decidedly “against” it at present, mostly because I agree with mIRC about the obvious issues it’s going to have, including Capcom seemingly going out of its way to appeal to the most “scrubby” of fighting game players. I mean, that makes sense from a pure business game model, especially since we at SRK unfortunately are a bit deluded about how niche fighting games actually (still) are. It just seems like there should be…better ways to do it without dumbing things down immensely, like not nerfing command grabs into fucking oblivion, letting projectiles have some actual power and letting different characters actually be able to fight at different ranges rather than pushing everyone in the same range. Shrug.
At this point, the only good things I can say about SFV is that it brought back some people from Alpha who I thought were going to never see the light of day again, particularly Rainbow Mika, and that it’s made the “universe” slightly more diverse by introducing an(other) Arab, a New Zealander (or whatever the fuck Necalli is) and a (human) Brazilian woman. Other issues with the games aside, I actually don’t mind any of the new characters we’ve seen thus far. I’m just…not excited for them or anything else in the game and I doubt I ever will be at this point; granted, I rarely get excited over anything, but still.
I’d still be willing to give SFV a chance though. I’m just not expecting much of anything.
Huh. Well, I’ll be damned. [/obvious joke]
I’m far more surprised that you remembered that far back than that I was wrong really, though given that it’s “only” back from 2014 apparently , I guess it’s not too surprising either. So, again, my apologies then: I was indeed wrong. Thanks for the correction and the reminder.
Hmmm…I really should go back and copy down the replies for research purposes since that’s part of the reason I was asking–apparently again–beyond mere curiosity. I’ve been having difficulty thinking about what to do with a particular character for a while after deciding that if I ever get this fighting game to get off the ground, then I don’t want it to use stun, and looking back might help with that, in part because the character in question was based around building up stun meter through block. (That probably would have ended up hilariously broken anyway.)
