I still remember bitching about how Sentinel was slow and useless when MvC2 came out, and it was months (a year?) before anyone started doing the Iron Man/War Machine infinite- and even then, IM didn’t become popular until much later.
A more recent example would be how Justin Wong said that Adon sucked in Super SF4, and then lost to Gamerbee’s Adon at Evo.
All of this is meant to say that I have little confidence that how people feel about the MvC3 cast will hold much weight a year from now, or even by Evo.
I was always a believer in Sentinel.
My 2001 team was Iceman, cable, sentinel.
Of course I wasn’t doing anything crazy, but I just believed in the big fella!
The thing about MVC2 was that no one knew what the fuck they were doing when the game was released. Now everyone already has a fucking plan for MVC3. 90% of the people already have a team in mind. People are already planning DHC combos, strategies, what assist to use etc…

Quite true, TS. I feel like people are being extra-exaggerated–bear with me–about MvC3 perceptions between the “wait” (read: time that has MvC2 has been out with no sequel) and the more glaringly obvious gimmick/system of XFC. It also helps/hurts that the Internet has evolved so much in the meantime. I mean, it’s not like Youtube was around when MvC2 came out; I’m not even sure if I had Internet beyond AOL at that time.

No one at CTF said Sentinel was useless when MvC2 just came out. People were already bitching about his defense and all the trap teams people were trying to come up with like Sentinel Blackheart. What changed with Sentinel game play is now people are rushing down with Sentinel and all the ff, uf, rf, etc shit.
Well, I guess so. But jokes aside Terry’s titles appeal to them because he milks the “Black men are trash” point so much. Than he adds a sprinkle of “religion” and viola, you have black women eating out of your hand. Obviously a good deal of women have been wronged by the “villainous black man” so you have a instant winner. Of course every movie ends in a sickly sweet ending where somebody gets beat down (usually with a frying pan) and the black woman prevails with her knight in shining armor. And before anyone says “well there’s Daddy’s Little Girls”!!! Its basically milking the same cords, but at the opposite end of the spectrum.
I haven’t even delved into how even if you ignore that the movies themselves has numerous problems of their own; continuity errors, bad pacing, unbelievable situations, misplaced humor, crazy characters…
I just can’t believe people will defend that shit.

This is true, but it’s part of the problem; people are/will be playing MvC3 like it’s MvC2. You aren’t playing MvC2 optimally if you’re thinking in MvC1 terms, and the same will be true for MvC2 vs MvC3.
TS is right. Playing Marvel 3 like its Marvel 2 will probably not work at all.

I’m thinking more of early impressions (like we’re getting now about MvC3), but Sentinel did become viable relatively early. However, my point was that things that are viewed as overpowered are abandoned, and the position of things that don’t seem to be of much value (Iron Man, Strider, Spiral etc) take months to be seen as being any good.
Of the three I only have experience with Wordpress, but it’s pretty nice. I wish the layouts were a little easier to customize.

I got your point the first time, it’s just that it might come off different to 09ers, 10ers… crap it’s already 2011.
The main difference between MvC2 to MvC3 is that we went from offline to online. When we got MvC2, what we got was what we got and various methods of communication were still not as available as they are now. With MvC3, not only are there tons of location tests and extended coverage and analysis, if anything game breaking is discovered they can just patch it up. This is both a good and bad thing. Things like finding a character with a way to break the damage protection system can easily change things, but characters that have consistent methods of approach/counter and damage usually stay at the top.
