In any of the older movies or television shows, people always looked presentable, unless the character is specifically written to be a bum, or “the town drunk”… it’s disappointing when you see the reality that most people look atrocious in terms of their overall look-- like they genuinely don’t care about being presentable.
Time to sound like a grumpy old person again—but this pants sagging thing is just…it’s some pathetic eyesore shit, man. WHY do they not care about looking like they are quite literally retarded? This clownish bullshit…and they seemingly take pride in it too. It looks bad for multiple reasons…on top of being raggedy it also looks quite “suspect” as some older generation southerners might say…because of the supposed origins of “sagged pants” people have mentioned countless times before. It’s also bizarre since a lot of black folks continue to be the most homophobic group of people in America today…ordinarily they wouldn’t go near anything that was “suspect”…except the pants sagging thing for some reason. It seems to be a combination of laziness and bad/tacky taste.
Also—one would assume the opposite would be the thing that’s in style, at least for those trying to attract the ladies—like you might assume that the style would be to try and look like you’re making at least 90k or even 6 figures a year. These styles influenced by rap videos just make it look like you’re just another broke ass dude in the hood…which may be true but why be truthful about that anyway? It’s strange to me that these things are the style and have been for a long time…and 50 years from now…the average person in the hood will still look the same…like a strange new species that somehow is unaffected by any kind of evolution, innovation or progress, despite how much time has passed.
I don’t know if I’d call it hilarious, but Steven Universe definitely has a lot of strong lesbian undertones. Most it comes from the alien race of gems that are all female, so any romantic feelings they express for each other will have some lesbian vibes.
But it’s a really good show with a good story and characters. So don’t think it’s some random show trying to make a social justice statement.
