TIL that the censorship filter is done on a runtime basis. That is, the ‘current’ replacement word is always substituted for any word matching the censored list. That makes it way more fun. Unfortunately, we can’t have a filter for plurals vs non-plurals. :bluu:

@Preppy look, I’m mostly trolling about this, but this is one of those broad, sweeping changes that comes off as “we’re doing this for your own good, now shut up and eat shit”, rather than an actual helpful change, like the return of animated avs, or a forum software that isn’t shitty ass Vanilla.
If everyone took a vote and said, “n-word gotta go”, then I imagine there would be less of an outcry… I’ll never understand the PC-centric youth culture we have now, where everyone gets “triggered” or needs “safe spaces” to hide from reality… I’m a grumpy old man who grew up in an era of ruthless shit talk and earning respect rather than feeling entitled to it.
I also somewhat understand words, language, culture, and the nuances they have. SRK and the FGC in general is one of the most unique, yet unequivocally American cultures we have-- Everything is earned, and it matters not your ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation, as long as you can play, you are welcome. All the shit-talking and seeming racism is just how this bunch of socially-awkward outcasts from “normal” society show their endearment towards each other. It’s a brutish, rough, culture, but it is also one of the most welcoming, and warm cultures to be a part of, once you’ve acclimated yourself to the way things are within it.
Abrupt changes to that cultural system will be met with shock and pushback almost automatically.

I was at game conferences all this weekend and am pretty shattered but it’s nothing that some sleep and a good fuck wouldn’t cure, as my sister used to say.
There was a discussion of Safe Spaces there and it was pretty weird. This one guy was going in on how “rape” means to pillage the countryside. The guy next to me said I was thinking - “yeah, but nobody calls each other a bundle of sticks.” Words have meanings: it’s important to be honest about that and what things actually mean. Sometimes something is inherently offensive, sometimes something is inherently meant to be inclusive and you interpreting it as offensive is your own problem you smasher godless communist SJW gamergater you.
I looked into animated avs: grouse to Vanilla to support it. I need ducky’s av to do that dance thing again because that was the tightest.
I don’t have great answers, but I’ll do what I can to help improve things with the tools we have. But by improve I mean make things better for everyone, not just the ones that cry the most. Most of us have been here for an unreasonable length of time, and that’s awesome and keeping the culture we’ve built is of pretty high value.
I don’t recall how long you guys were going on about this after I reverted that aspect of the change, but … :lol:
