I just saw this artlce and I don’t know how to feel.
SO basically, chick is preggo with another dude’s baby. Who shes gonna give up for adoption. She states shes broke… and she thinks its unfair that she be judged for guy not wanting to be with her cuz shes el pregenanto.
Article was not nearly as bad as I was expecting but I just dont know how to feel and want to open the floor to my fellow SRK’rs
This semester I’m teaching a Gen Psych class and my class had their first paper due. Just one page, nothing too complicated.
They had to pick a psychology related scientific journal, write a half page about what the journal is about and another half page about the themes they saw in the table of contents and what they thought about it. They didn’t even have to read any of the articles. I just wanted them to be able to look up a scientific journal in the library and tell me a little about it.
I even posted the assignment on Blackboard so they could submit it online. I showed the entire class exactly how to look up the journals and submit it through Blackboard on the projector, asking them to write everything down step by step if they needed to. On Blackboard I provided a sample completed assignment so they knew exactly how I wanted it formatted and written up. These instructions were also placed in the syllabus, which all of them received a physical copy and I have a digital copy for them on Blackboard.
You would think that I had made it virtually impossible to fail.
You would think that…until you beheld the horror of what many of my students submitted.
Several of them blatantly plagiarized. Literally copying and pasting directly off the journal’s website. Like it wasn’t completely obvious. Like I didn’t have Google to copy and paste their text into.
They even found new and creative ways to fuck up. I had several students submit their papers by attaching Apple document files when I provided them with a huge text box for them to put their paper into. They literally made it more complicated for themselves and for me. I had 5 students somehow ignore the massive blank text box in the middle of their screen and instead opt to post their paper in the tiny comments box.
And that’s not even mentioning the inane typos. Like did they even attempt to proofread this? They made @pedoviejo look like an English major.
I see now why teachers become so spiteful. They’re subjected to a relentless bombardment of abject stupidity and laziness.
My star pupil is an attentive and wide-eyed black girl who sits right in front of me. She comes from a poor family but busted her ass to get a college scholarship. She wants to become a psychologist so I’ve been helping her get into research labs and gather info on graduate programs. I swear if it wasn’t for her I would destroy them all.
It’s right to guess he was trying to intimidate her, and that ended horrifically.
A teacher who made a difference in my school years took with us on hikes through parks in the city to learn about different aspects of nature, its history and the current environment that surrounds it. He taught English and it was the year I graduated a senior from high school.
(Well good to know that all of BullDancer’s posts could be restored given what it was doing to the forums.)
It shows how successfully I have insulated myself from popular culture that the only Felicias that come to mind when I see that share are Felicia from Darkstalkers and Felicia Day from whatever, so random white girls wanting to be hyper and over-energetic while trying to pass it off as “fun” and “quirky” is nothing new to me.
raises eyebrow
And just how exactly would you destroy them all?
unzips pants
Because I am totally down for graphic details. [/mIRC’s leftover thirst]
Seriously, though, part of the reason I never wanted to go is into teaching is because I am pretty sure I would not be able to go an entire year without trying to strangle or defenestrate one or more of the students in whatever class I was teaching.
