Youtube as self contained entity to google isn’t profitable and more or less breaks even but in their financials they attribute the profits under digital marketing due to their ads attributing to a ton of revenue to other areas of the company. At least that’s what I’ve read.
That’s what is already seeming to happen. Not sure what happened to YouTube, but I have a bad feeling about who might be involved in it. Funny enough, it seems to be happening at the time period that I expected…two months out from election time.
While I understand and agree with most of the points raised, people really need to understand what the fuck censorship is. Censorship is a governing entity forbidding you from saying something with sanctions. You know, someone who can actually stop you from voicing your opinion because they control the laws, the police and the military. Private companies having guidelines on how you may use their platforms is not censorship. Google has no goddamn way of stopping you from expressing your opinions on any platform they do not own, so it’s not fucking censorship! If I say you can’t say bad things about the Jews in my house, that’s not censorship, because you can go to Dave the Anti-Semite’s house and talk about how fucking ugly their noses are.
It sucks that Youtube can just say you won’t get paid for stuff they don’t like, but you don’t have to use Youtube. If all the cool people go somewhere else, a lot of people will probably follow. Just look at MySpace.
For those who don’t know, the Vita has been hacked, and “backup” floodgates have been blasted open. Things are still early, so always do your research and be careful of what you install on your system.
(Someone please explain the demonetization thing for those of us who do not want to listen the videos and it’s supposed importance.)
It does not help that I am also in the middle of several other things right now, so I could not devote myself to listening to them even if I absolutely wanted to do so.
Apparently there’s a Youtube bot that demonitizes videos that have key words in the title or description like “rape, gun, drug, kill”. Also scans thumbnails too I guess.
advertisers have the power to disable ads on videos they don’t like
said “content” provider is hit with this news and is no longer receiving money
said “content” provider goes and cries about decreased advertisement funds
said “content” provider spins it into a different issue to make it more relatable for other people
(Well, it arguably should not be directly benefiting people monetarily or, at the very least, a direct pay-day was always going to be at the whims of Overlord Google anyway.)
Okay. I thought something overall more important was going on given Kecka mentioned censorship, but this does not seem like it affects me or most people in fact. As such, while it obviously sucks for some people who use Youtube, at the same time I cannot really bring myself to care, at least with the current summarized information.
If anything, then I am a bit surprised that Youtube was not already doing that. As long as they do not start deleting or censoring people’s channels even more than they already do over the usual bullshit, this is a non-issue to me.
the YouTube bot has gone nuts. It is demonetizing videos all across the board for things that some people don’t think should be a problem, some things that have not been a problem, and other things that seem to be a problem on one channel, but not another channel. Lots of things were said, angry words thrown across phone lines, and all the other things that you would expect.
Basically, by demonitizing a vid, YouTube can restrict who gets money from it or who doesn’t. In effect, it cuts off the reason a lot of the major YouTubers are doing what they doing. It’s not,“Censorship” since you can still make whatever you want. However, if you wanna get paid, better do what we say. That isn’t new by any means, but this blitzkrieg bot’s over zealous nature is.
As of a few minutes ago, it looks like YouTube might be reining in their hound a little. Several of the YouTubers who got hit are starting to report that YouTube has answered and Re-Monetized many, if not all of their content. I’m guessing they got a little gun shy when they realized that they just MIGHT end up losing a lot of money due to their iron grip on content, but only time will tell.
I get the argument. That in mind. there are 300 new videos uploaded every single minute to youtube. If you don’t think at least some of those people aren’t worthy of monetary benefits for their “content” I think you’re crazy.
It sounds more like he’s bitter that him and the rest of us (myself included -.-) have to work a 9-5 while a group of pretty innovative people have been capitalizing on a way to make a lot of money during a time where there weren’t a lot of rules involving these kinds of issue.
