Meh. This whole “controversy” in general is stupid, as is par for the course when it comes to America distracting itself from its actual issues with its celebrity obsession; that is especially ironic this time given Kaepernick’s “cause” for not standing up in the first place.
Basically I have only seen two intelligent types of reactions so far, beyond just ignoring it. The first that I have seen are those people saying that it is actually more American than “unAmerican” for him to be able to protest anything, even if the national anthem and even if of course there are going to be consequences for certain types of free speech. The second I have seen is a gold star mom saying that she disagreed with him for understandable reasons but that was she mostly choosing to critique him by saying that he should do more than just sit on his ass–I am paraphrasing here–if he truly wants to help fix the problems of this country and with the flag by extension.
The latter I think is a significant part of why I am rolling my eyes at this whole affair beyond not caring about sports and its stars in the first place: this form of protest just reeks of real-life “slacktivism” on his part at present given all of the power and wealth he actually he has, at least if he is not actually doing besides sitting down to protest.
I haven’t read all of this but it is fascinating if it’s true…because I truly hate the fact that we have to die at some point…it is one of the things that actually disgusts and disappoints me when it comes how things work in this world. It would be a great thing if in the future, the average human life span was something like 200 or 250 or 300 years or more… sheeeit, I’d be perfectly ok with living for several thousands of years. (*sidenote–this is one of the obvious reasons I’ve always been fascinated with the very idea of vampires, or other mythic/fictional creatures that were/are written to be naturally immortal–this is why I’d jump at the chance to become some superior being with an immortal lifespan; no hesitation.)
Really, I’d be ok with living on through to the very end of this world when it’s time for the sun to burn out. (billions of years from now, unless some other cosmic-level destructive event destroys everything earlier than that)…or longer if humans eventually figure out and perfect the whole interstellar travel thing so we can find a new home planet.
A lot of people say “eh you’d get bored”, but I’ve always disagreed with that…if this were already several centuries ago then yeah–it would probably be easy to be bored at some point in a primitive world…we now live in an era of internet, games and other interesting tech—along with all the other older forms of entertainment-- music, movies, books and television. Then you have to consider what interesting things may be invented in just the next few decades that no one today could have imagined… there’s no excuse for being “bored” in the modern era or the future…that is impossible, at least for me.
